  1. Yes, it appears I could remove the plastic end piece, in which case I could use virtually any size stud and screw; but I was hoping to just get the specs on the specific size of the hole and threads that are already there so I could just apply a little loctite and screw in a fixed stud rather than have the 3-piece setup (screw/housing/loop) currently employed. The only thing the RWC rep could tell me about the size was, "I don't know, but I bet it's metric.". Well, part of the appeal of this gun to me was the inherent strength and reliability, so I don't doubt the split loop is also
  2. Okay, so I have an unconverted IZ132 from RWC with the regular plastic buttstock. The screw that attaches the stud to the buttstock goes entirely through the sling swivel stud, meaning the attached loop isn't a solid piece, but split so the screw can go through it. This seems awfully weak to me, and eventually the loop will stretch and separate until it fails. I changed out the forend to a Tapco, so that one is taken care of; but I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this setup and knows what kind of stud is best for the the buttstock as far as screw size and threads... believe it or no
  3. Me either; I'm not interested in making money, I'm interested in having something that's about to be a luxury to own.
  4. Well, as the article points out, unions are only 1 part of Colt's uncanny ability to fail financially... they've been failing repeatedly since Colt bankrupted the company in the '30's, 30+ years before organized labor unions even existed. Besides, Remington uses union labor, and they're far from bankrupt.
  5. That's true, but there's nothing like the original... I looked at a couple dozen other makes, but in the end I just had to have the Izhmash. Looks like it's going to end up being one of my better buys ever.
  6. Some banks on that list, too; so even if a weapon company isn't specifically mentioned, if that company uses that bank, we probably still can't import them. The companies, and I saw Izmash and Izhevsk on the list, haven't done anything wrong; so I have no problem with their products. Those companies are just major trading partners with us, so to hit Russia in the wallet we sanctioned them. If folks suddenly have moral objections because of the actions of some of the people who use their products, then they should have been opposed to the companies all along when AK's were being use
  7. Nah, I'm good to go; pulled and put aside with my name on it a little over a week ago... I checked. In fact, the dealer has a few Saigas left but said if somebody tries to buy one tomorrow he'll probably be out of luck.
  8. Me too, 10 days ago; I had only been considering one for about a week, and then got a great e-mail deal and jumped on it.
  9. Just replied in another thread that I'm glad I went ahead and got my Saiga IZ132 on layaway at a fixed price 10 days ago because prices are probably about to go through the roof. http://www.guns.com/2014/07/17/breaking-new-russian-sanctions-wont-affect-ak-owners-but-may-affect-new-ak-buyers/
  10. http://www.guns.com/2014/07/17/breaking-new-russian-sanctions-wont-affect-ak-owners-but-may-affect-new-ak-buyers/ Sure am glad I put my Saiga IZ132 on layaway 10 days ago; they're about to get very expensive.
