  1. A friend picked up a 21 inch barrelled Saiga, wants to convert it, but wants to shorten the barrel to 16.5 inches. What are the ramifications of this, as it relates to reliability? Will the gas port size need to be changed?
  2. YMMV=Your mileage may vary. Thanks for the replies, I know how picky ARs can be with barrel length and gas port size, thank god for AKs.
  3. I want to shorten my 21 in barrel to 18 inches. Will this affect the gas port? Will it need to be opened up, and if so, how much?
  4. Did you use the ATI or the Choate dragunov stock? All in all, VERY nice!
  5. Will you be threading the barrel, or just crowning it?
  6. I was thinking of shortening the barrel on a 22 in. S-308, to 18in., and setting back the FSB. Has anyone done this, and how difficult was relocating the FSB? My thoughts were to ream it if possible to get a slip fit, instead of a press fit, and use tapered pins, like on the AR-15. Also, are there any reliability problems when the barrel is shortened?
  7. I didn't have to modify the mag catch, just the magazine, just ahead of the feed lips. Otherwise I would have had to do some machine work on the trunnion itself to get the magazines to fit.
  8. Bad Bob, thats the exact mod I had to do to the Bulgys. So do the same to the steel mags, and I'll be good to go. Thanks guys!
  9. I have modded my Bulgy mags by filing down the top of the mags at the front, ahead of the feed lips, and added a feed ramp, otherwise no mods to the rifle itself to fit and feed from the hi-caps. Is there anything different that needs to be done to the steel mags?
  10. I've been looking at both the German Weiger mags, and the SAR-3 mags. Which ones do you believe are better, and why do you have this opinion?
  11. Had the same problem with mine while I was putting mine together tonight. Took it back out and filed the casting flash off of it, smoothed the surfaces, and that fixed the problem. Best way to function check your install is to install your FCG, and safety. Next install your bolt carrier and recoil spring assembly, but leave the top cover off. Rack the bolt to cock the rifle, move the safety lever to the "safe" position, and pull the trigger, the hammer should not fall. Next, move the safety lever to the "fire" position, and pull the trigger. The hammer should fall. Whille holding your tri
  12. The last item I need before I start my conversion, is a new FCG. I'm planning on buying a Tapco G2, but I don't which one I should get, the single hook, or the double hook. Any ideas? Is one better than the other?
  13. Junk. I had one break on the fifth shot out of a 10-22.
  14. Stupid regulations regarding magazine capacities and the "style" of firearms, e.g., pistol grips, detachable mags, etc., are why I've quit hunting. 2nd amendment ain't about duck guns anyway.
