  1. Mine is disgustingly reliable. The Fury 1 uses rock-and-lock Saiga-like (prioprietary) magazines. The Fury 2 uses the VEPR system iirc. Here are two pics of mine, made yesterday. Mods are in-progress, mostly CSS gear.
  2. The Saiga conversion means that Catamount mags no longer work. Your dealer can order 10x mags from Century (the importer IIRC). I've seen them for sale on Gunbroker.com Unless you're in a PSD or 3-gun situation, I'd opine that longer than 10x is a bit of a chore. I can swap reasonably quickly, but it is a muscle memory skill. Practice. If you're an LEO, get a KSG (15) or a good 12g semi-auto. Your firefights might be longer.
  3. My Fury 1 has been sadly VERY RELIABLE except with low-brass bird shot. US$350 seems normal for NIB. I am modifying mine extensively (see the Other Rifles forum).
  4. I might have to open up the port, I understand. Thanks for the reminder!
  5. Every round drops the instant it leaves the muzzle. You might have super-elevation for a zero at 100 or 200, but the round has arched upwards and then down to do that.
  6. The CSS or DPH regualtor also improve function across a broader range of Ammo. Like the FN FAL....
  7. Previously acquired the Fury I (with the traditional stock) So update as of yesterday: CSS supplied the following mods: FCG TG with AR-style PG mount Reliability package (recoil springs, nylon guide) Adjustable regulator Trunnion backplate and adjustable pig-nose Hammer Springs Piston Rail and cover Galil-like charging handle extension (I'm a lefty; it's easier for me to turn my palm and pull straight back) Other pieces-parts include the Magpul grip on the rail, Magpul PG, and I'm ordering the Chaos HK sights for trial. Reliability has been very good except for low brass shot. The new ga
  8. And many slugs have a band/bourrelet to deal with chokes. It's relative.
  9. It's usually about the chokes, not the barrels. Even US-made chokes (see Carlson's) cite concerns running steel shot through them. The barrels HAVE to pass proofing tests. Soft is relative I opine.
  10. Kind thanks! Appreciate these operating experience lessons. If I can find Saiga and VEPR accessories, I'll start a thread (or update here) on data and pics. Interesting, to say the least.
  11. Just had my Catamount put in to my shop for the mods. We're using most of your conversion accessories. Will keep you posted.
  12. Thanks. I was also looking for dimensional differences too, if known. It'd be nice to have one of each, and then measure certain features.
  13. Are there significant dimensional differences? For instance, the difference between the front of the trunnion and the gas block/cylinder, lengths of the associated handguard sections, etc? I opine that most AK handguards do not fit, and that Saiga shotgun furniture does not interchange with VEPRs, and vice versa.
  14. Are there other dimensional differences? For instance, the difference between the front of the trunnion and the gas block/cylinder, lengths of the associated handguard sections, etc? Do all VEPRs use the AK-102 (sic) combination FSB/gas cylinder? And do all Saiga shotguns use the cylinder with a smaller tamp foresight?
  15. Particularly with regards to the gas tube, forearm furniture, etc. I don't have side-by-side guns, but I did compare the fit of a Saiga rail system to Catamount. The Catamount is shorter (iirc) between the receiver and the gas block. I don't have a VEPR handy. Have any of you creative smiths looked at this crosswise? The standard AK systems (e.g.: Midwest Industries) are too short between the trunnion and front plate also. And it goes without saying, the 12g barrel doesn't drop into the after-market HG too well. I'm also leery of too much rail/real estate. Who needs a fully segmented
  16. I haven't heard of a Fury 3. Period. There are pics of something called a Fury 3, but the importer is only selling the Fury 1 and 2. Mine is incredibly reliable. It does not like low-brass, yet, but I have already ordered the CSS 4-way gas regulator. We'll see what that does. On high brass it runs like a top. I'd also avoid "low-recoil". Like any weapon, if you bet your @$$ on it, it better work, and it's your responsibility to prove it with your EDC loads. Cat 12, that has to be THE most accessorized Fury int he world! Well done!
  17. Just got mine: SN is 018XX. Wish we had a leger of SNs and expereinces. I took the risk. 50 rounds later, no deformation of the carrier or other moving parts. Shoots birdshot and 00 just fine, when you remember to change the piston setting. Will convert. Anyone used the CSS kit for their conversion? Along with that, plan to install a normal trunnion so I can run a Magpul stuck on an RD adapter. I like the line.
  18. Please post pics of the kit, esp the stock adapter/trunnion. TED OK, found it: Does this leave the BHO functional on the Catamount?
