  1. The velocity term should be squared, not a simple multiply. Energy = mass x velocity squared.
  2. Energy = Mass * Velocity^2 A 10% increase in mass with equal velocity is a 10% increase in energy. But a 10% increase in velocity with equal mass is a 21% increase in energy. The only wrinkle is that powder charge and wad are part of the mass, not just the shot payload.
  3. The Phantom has close-to-the-best flash suppression at a below-average price. It wins performance per $ cost pretty handily.
  4. Black Aces Tactical has a rail that attaches both to the barrel and the receiver side mount for extra rigidity. It works pretty well.
  5. Which scope did you go with? Millet TRS-1 with .1mil adjustments. I have 2 others, one on a 5.56 AR and the other on a PTR-91. Good glass for the money.
  6. My 10/22 (target model) will group 10 rounds at 50 yards small enough to be completely covered by a dime with most types of match-grade ammo.
  7. IMO it had more to do with the legislature threatening to defund the security details of the governor and AG if they went through with the original non-reciprocity BS.
  8. You said "they won't improve function", when they clearly do, as long as the ammo will cycle the gun. They won't increase maximum cycling energy, but that is not the same thing as "improving function".
  9. It does improve function in the sense that you can adjust the regulator so the gun will cycle reliably without beating the crap out of itself or the shooter with a wider variety of ammo than the stock plug.
  10. ...you're looking under your couch cushions for some change you lost, and find a Saiga-12 drum mag.
  11. Did you RTFM? On a Saiga, the detent plunger is your index mark. So if #1 is next to the plunger, you're on setting #1, which is the least amount of gas, appropriate for 3" magnums and high-brass 2.75". But that may or may not apply here. My guess would be that the largest circle indicates the most gas. Unscrew the gas plug completely, and find the biggest notch or hole in the back. Orient the plug with that largest notch or hole facing downward, and see where the big circle on the front lines up. It will probably be in the 8:00 position, matching the detent plunger.
  12. Again, incorrect. Belt-fed mechanisms generally pull the cartridge out of the belt from the rear, then either lift or lower the cartridge, then feed it into the chamber. At least that is how the M2 .50, 240 .7.62, and SAW 5.56 mechanisms work. None of them push the cartridge through the belt forward, the case taper would cause way too much friction with the links, and the bolt would prevent the belt links from separating as designed if it was threaded through them. Note that the belt feeds into the receiver above the barrel...

  14. Belt fed is a totally different animal than double stack. It's more like a single stack in that the rounds are pulled out of the belt and then fed into the chamber one at a time.
  15. That is the wrong answer. The threads are concentric to the outside of the barrel, not the bore. It may not be an issue for installing a flash hider, but you can never install a choke or a suppressor on those threads.
  16. Cruz' mother is an American citizen, which gives Cruz American citizenship, regardless of the location of the birth.
  17. +1 on the Troy sights. A bit pricy, but totally worth it. Especially the DOA rear sight. My favorite optic is the Meprolight Tru-Dot RDS. Huge view port (bigger than an eotech), 15,000hr battery life, and a motion-activated power switch that shuts it off when the gun is not being moved. It's great for a bedside gun--no need to flip switches, just grab the gun and the sight is ready to go.
  18. There are other much better options for gas plugs out there. If your gun already cycles low-brass Wal-Mart ammo, the Tac-47 auto plug is a great choice. If you want manual adjustment, the CSS/DPH 6-position plug is a nice upgrade.
