  1. Brown Bear has lead core, bi-metal jacketed bullets.
  2. I would be interested if Magpuls were metal lined and came in 20-rounders... M
  3. Shot this six-shot group @ 100 yds today (1.85") with some new handloads (150 FMJ Hornady and 47.0 gr H380, Win primers, WCC brass) off the bags with iron sights and 65 year-old-eyes. This the best accurate FMJ load I've tried out of this 20-inch rifle to-date.. The RSO was a bit grouchy today, so I left early and went home to cook up some more rounds. I haven't had that much luck with reloads or factory recently and frankly was considering selling, but now I think this Saiga is a keeper. I still have about 3 pounds of this powder and will be looking for more... M
  4. Radioactive ammo? You will have a lot more to worry about... M
  5. "Plating" and "gilding" are the same thing: 7N6 is most certainly "bi-metal" Bimetal refers to an object that is composed of two separate metals joined together. Instead of being a mixture of two or more metals, like alloys, bimetallic objects consist of layers of different metals.
  6. A copper plated steel jacket bullet is bi-metal. M
  7. Recently shot at an 8 inch ball of solid concrete from 120 yds with Golden Tiger. Turned it to gravel with two shots. Not bad. I wouldn't be too alarmed if that is all I had to shoot. M
  8. Ace used to make those. Copy of a FAL.grip... M
  9. Stanag 4172 would require copper jacket, lead core, and steel penetrator. M
  10. They do if they go NATO. (Bulgaria, Romania) M
  11. I don't know of any 545 that is not bimetal except Hrnady Vmax. M
  12. A friend has the HB 20 inch Saiga and was wondering how the 69 grain shoots. Anyone? M
  13. Try these guys: http://texasaktriggers.com/ They make FCGs with double hook triggers exclusively. Formerly Global Trades... Good Luck M
  14. Recent Tucson show had a NIB Saiga 16 inch 223 for $699. Not sure if it sold, but if I had a shot at it, I might buy it today. M

    Surefire mags

I just noticed one of the followers was snapped in half on one of my lightly used twenty rounders. How are yours holding out? M
  16. Silver Bear 5.45 is the most accurate with WPA a close second. I have never had a failure of any kind in any Kalashnikov with Silver Bear in any of the calibers I shoot and I have never had any failure with any military or commercial 5.45 with three different Saigas. M
  17. Sorry, the pictures are too big to load. It's the BAGS. More specifically the front bag. The one I was using was a little too rigid. I switched to a softer one and voila. Rifle is shooting fine now and grouping like it should ~1.5 inches at 100 yds with Silver Bear. From another thread: " Two things I've learned about group shooting AK/AKM variants. Shoot them off your hand while your hand is resting on the front rest. Hard benching the forearm on the front bag will double the size of your groups. Second, load from the magazine rather than loading rounds singly. Letting the rifle cycle
  18. both are converted with no muzzle attachments. BTW, the crown looked okay to me. I may try again over the weekend with the irons and another newer scope.. I'll keep ya posted. Maybe I'll post some pix M
  19. WPA 60gr fmj Silver Bear 60gr fmj Russian 7N6 Hornady 60gr Vmax. The WPA and Silver Bear shoot the best out of the 16 inch. Right about 1.6 to 1.9 inches for five shots at 100yds (with breezy winds) and 4X scope. The twenty incher is just under 4.0 inches.. I wonder if the 70gr load would shoot any better, but I haven't found any of it for sale lately... M
  20. I am not very satisfied with the accuracy of my new 20 inch Saiga 5.45. Went out today and my 16 inch barreled carbine was shooting groups that were HALF of what the 20 inch will do, everything being equal. I am thinking maybe cutting the barrel down to 16 inches to stiffen it, hopefully improving accuracy. Anyone? M
