    223 Trouble

I didn't bring any brass with me today, so I don't know if that would work any better. I'm really surprised it had any feed issues.

    223 Trouble

I took my 223 out for the first time today, and ran into problems. I was shooting Wolf ammo, and using Surefire Saiga mags. The first 3 or 4 rounds fired fine, then I started having all kinds of failure to eject and failure to feed problems. Anyone run into this kind of trouble? My first thought was that the rifle just didn't like Wolf, but that really surprises me if true. Thanks!
  3. Your furniture looks great. Did you use dye to get the red color?
  4. My x39 has a new twin 223 brother. I hope they get a 5.45 cousin soon.
  5. I tried one of the pin-on adapters on my 7.62 Saiga. Despite "dimpling" the barrel for the lock-tited pins, it kept coming off and flying down the range.
  6. I cut the shroud off. The barrel underneath is .591, tapering to .581. I was looking at Dinzag's rental tools to thread it, and saw that for a .591 barrel he only offers a 15x1 RH threader. I really want to go with 14x1 LH to have more options. Can I use one of his 14x1 kits, even though my barrel is slightly larger?
  7. Is the barrel thickness generally the same from end to end? I haven't removed the front shroud yet, but I get a measure of about .56 just before the FSB. Is that going to be close to what I get when I cut the shroud? BTW, Harbor Freight has digital calipers for $9.99.
  8. I have the same question with my 223. I took it to a local smith, who told me the barrel without the shroud was 15mm. He said that was too small to thread for a 14x1. I know there are apparently variations in 223 barrels, so I don't know if it can be done or not on mine. I'm thinking it will work.
  9. The above is the key so many folks don't do. If you have a brake that uses set screws, drilling small divots in your barrel shroud or barrel will allow the set screws to hold very well. I dimpled my x39 barrel and used 3 set screws to hold an AK74 brake. I could never get it to hold more than a few rounds before it flew off.. Maybe the pressure in a break is higher than in a FH?
  10. I tried a pin-on brake on my other Saiga. I spent a lot of time chasing it downrange! Does yours stay secure?
  11. When I did my x39 conversion, I put on a new AK74 FSB and brake. I ready to finish my .223 conversion and was wondering if this plan will work? I read somewhere that the barrel diameter varies on .223's???? What have you guys done with yours? Thx!
  12. Thank You! Can you tell me a good place to find composite/nylon stocks and can I get a stock longer than 9 inches without going to an adjustable one? I like the K-VAR NATO length buttstock #AK-020. link
  13. Sorry if I missed it, but any idea about pricing?
  14. Anybody have a source for a AK cleaning rod? Thanks.
