  1. Try Ammo Brothers in Cerritos. They usually have Siagas in stock. T
  2. Yes that is a Rad-lock--and I was surprised on how easy it was to install--took 5 minutes! And I'll never take it to the range without more than a 10 rounder (USA made) mag in the thing. Although I have a pile of pre-ban Chinese intermediate mags (type without the back ridge), they don't see the light of day in CA. And if they rule against the rad lock... off comes the pistol grip and on goes a monster grip. Or no grip at all. There's an evil thought growing in my brain about something along the lines of a monster grip. Something easier to use--something you can actually put your hand

I may make it and let you guys give m
  4. I take it you're going to make a Mak-90 kinda'--ish stock. Right!? If so you'll have to cut a pistol grip nut hole, just like in the conversion vid. The bolt goes right up into the pistol grip/thumb-hole stock into the nut. As for the fore grip... You can take apart the whole shebang and install a stock AK lower grip retainer like I did. But this takes some machining, fitting, swearing and skill to pull this off. I suggest that you go to the Dinzag site and get their lower hand-guard retainer adaptor. http://www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_762x39/akbor1.html I was too cheap to do
  5. This vid should be a sticky on this site. I hope someone reads this!!! Hint! Hint! T
  6. I was editing the post, and posted some of the photos twice. Sorry it took so long. FRT
  7. Okay, I got busy in the last week, and spent a couple of evenings actually cutting metal and making things. Removed the trigger guard and FCG. Found a Tapco single hook FCG at a local shop cheaper than I could get on the internet--scooped it up. Needed this to do the layout for a new trigger guard. Am basing it partly on the Tromix design. Cleaned off the base of the reciever and swabbed it with a little layout blue. Layed out the pistol grip nut hole and cut this out. First drilled four small holes in each corner, then cut it roughly to size with the dremmel. Filed out the remai
  8. Okay, that's the little dogie I was talking about. What the heck does it do? Do I need this? And could it be considered a 922r part--should I carve one out of a single block of steel? lol FRT
  9. I want to make a custom trigger guard (well I'm making it now)--somewhat like the Tromix thing, only snazzier. Only this one will be welded onto the mag-catch housing. Will this USA made trigger guard count as a 922f part? Or do I have to keep it seperate from the mag-catch? Now see.... you got me deep in this game too! lol I should start making this crap for all you guys to buy. Someone's got to pay for my sickness. FRT
  10. Ohhhh! That's how this BHO thing works! Thank you for posting the photos. I was wondering how this functioned. My Saiga does not have one. And frankly I had never seen one before. So you can push up the metal tab and jack the bolt back... and it stays? Or it comes into play when the last round is fired and holds the bolt back? Which theory is correct? Wow, you learn something everyday here. FRT
  11. Just got the FCG removed. Pins driled out. Rivets drilled out. Hand guard removed. Question: This Saiga (7.62 purchased 11 years ago) did not have a BHO or a BHO Spring. Nor did it have an AK retainer plate. What gives? Are the BHO's a more recent addition? Were the AK retainer plates also a more recent addition? A couple more questions: Can I install a BHO? Can I install an AK retainer? --and what does this thing do exactly? And if I added them--are there any US made that would add towards my 922r count? Will await anwers before proceeding. Don't want to sc
  12. Yes this is the one. Thank you so very much. I was wondering where it went to. You are a scholar and a gentleman! T
  13. Wow dozens of reads, and one reply. Thanks! Tonight I am taking out the FCG and trigger guards. T
  14. Some guy made a great conversion video. I saw it on this site, and now I can't seem to find it. Anyone got a link??!! Provide please. FRT
  15. I think you can go full AK conversion with the Saiga. Even add a pistol grip--but to do this you have to loose the mag-catch, and install a bullet button or Rad-lock. This way you need a tool to remove the magazine, and therefore it is not "detachable." Ammo Brothers had a bunch of these AK's set-up like this (with pistol grip and rad-locks) before the election. But they're all gone now. Sold out in the feeding frenzy. I even saw some of their competetors selling identially set-up AK's at two gun-shows last summer with no problemo's. But they had Rad-locks. Now I went to Ammo Brot
  16. Got all the furniture cleaned off and refinished. Soaked all the old Romanian wood in liberal coats of paint stripper, then scrapped off the Commie varnish. Did this twice until I could see wood. Then scrubbed all off with a coarse plastic pad and water to get rid of the stripper. Let this dry for a couple of days. Started my final sanding. Shapped the lower handguard the way I wanted it. Copied the shape from a lower that I like. Finish sanded all the old finish off the upper handguard down to wood. Ditto with the rear stock. Final sanding with 100 grit. Washed it all down with
  17. When tapping you have to use oil along with the tap. Turn it 1/4 of a turn and back it off until you feel the chip break off. Repeat the process. After a few turns in--back it all the way out and flush the hole. Then repeat the process until you're done. You were going too far without backing off the tap. And next time get a real expensive--good quality tap. Not one made in China. FRT
  18. The Milspec are the only plastic mags to even consider--however they are more expensive than metal mags. Making metal surplus mag fit a Saiga is not that big'a deal. Also they are much cheaper and will last forever. FRT
  19. Forget the plastic mags. Get some surplus steel mags--500 million commies can't be wrong. FRT
  20. Removing the Front Sight block... The toughest part is removing the pins. You need a very good quality punch slightly smaller than the diameter of the pins, ball-peen hammer, a good vice--and someone to help. The vice needs to have aluminum grip-covers, which you can easily make out of soft aluminum and snips. I had someone help me hold the action as I lay the barrel horizontally over the vice--with the pins sticking slightly over the edge. One side of the pins will be slighly mushroomed--one side will be clean. You have to punch the pins out from the clean side (non-mushroom
  21. You'll have to link me a photo of an FSB. What is it? I have a Chinese Muzzle break made to go on an SKS, which I was thinking of modifying to fit the Saiga. I'm going to drill and ream it so that it's a press fit, then tac weld it on. Let me see what a Bulgarian FSB looks like please. I will post a photo of what I'm going to mod in a little while. FRT
  22. I spent a lot of time on the mill and lathe this weekend. I decided to go old-school with the Saiga using some furniture salvaged off a Romanian (gift from a friend). I'm going to make it look like one of those long-barreled Yugoslavian AKM's. Cut the handle off the fore-grip and reshaped the wood (rough shaped--will do the final shaping and sanding this weekend). Removed the front sight and gas diverter to install a stock AK grip retainer (which cost 5 bucks at the guns show). This was not as easy as I thought--lots of fitting required. But it looks cleaner than a clamp on adapter typ
  23. If you modified a standard selector lever into a BHO, this would also interfere with the Tapco Hammer? Correct? Also when using a BHO--when holding open the bolt... in the hold open position--this is when it interferes with the hammer correct? Incorrect? Last question... Will there be any problems with trigger slap with the Tapco FCG? Any reported? Thanks
  24. So if I don't use the BHO lever, I don't have to modify the Tapco FCG? Correct? I'm not planning on installing a BHO. FRT
  25. Hey thanks for all the answers... Regading the shaving to clear the Barak Hussien Obama (BHO), just where is the metal taken from? Anyone got a photo to show the area. Also... will I get the dreaded "trigger slap" with a Tapco FCG? I'm going to go this way to save some bucks--the Dinzag thing is great, and they're great, but my Saiga is not my precision rifle.
