  1. Thanks Matt, that's a great idea. It will surely work fine if the handle sits a bit further back as in your example.
  2. Hi all, I recently got my S12 back from conversion by AZEX. It looks and handles great. A new Krebs peep sight is one of the big improvements. While the S12 was away I ordered a Tromix Galil-style charging handle to add later. Now that I have the S12 back it looks to me like the Galil handle might not be a good addition since in the forward position it's pretty close to the peep sight. My concern is that the proximity of the peep sight to the Tromix charging handle might make it hard to get a quick overhand grasp on the charging handle. So - before I go down the road of wel
  3. Sorry, I gotta disagree with you on that one. The only people to blame for the rise in prices are the buyers and sellers. Obama isn't even president yet and the Internet rumors about "the coming ban" or whatever are as of right now just that - rumors. I have my share of issues with Obama but you can't blame him for sellers gouging and buyers making panic purchases. If there actually were an impending ban about to go on the books then you'd be right. But that's not the case as of December 2008 and I'd even be willing to bet that a year from now it still won't be the case. There are too many big
  4. Ok, thanks. I suspected as much but wanted to be sure. It's true their AK-related product selection leaves a bit to be desired.
  5. Maybe it's just me, but I had a red star in my PSL and I couldn't get it to perform well. Don't get me wrong; I like the RSA adjustable trigger. I probably have 5 of them between ones in my AKs and ones sitting in my parts bin waiting for a "host" down the road. But for me the PSL just didn't like it. I imagine that given enough time and tweaking I could have made it work well eventually but I ran out of patience. In my opinion the higher-buck solution might not be the best one in every case. Given the heavy recoil of the PSL I think a properly 'smithed 2-stage that isn't adjustable may be a b
  6. Thanks, I appreciate the link, though I actually know where to find the Saiga-specific poly choke. My question has to do with whether any of the types I mentioned above is compatible with the Saiga. I was hoping that one of the types Brownell's sells is the correct one for the S12, because I can get a discount on most items in the Brownell's catalog due to having an account set up with them.
  7. Hi all, I'm wanting to add a Poly choke to my S12. I have an account w/ Brownell's so I get a modest discount there. They have 3 poly choke models listed, but none is for the Saiga specifically. They have models for: - Remington - Browning invector - Beretta/Benelli So, is the S12 version the same as any of these? Or is it a completely separate model?
  8. I have one of Victor's RDPs on my Bulgarian 5.45 krink. So far it's been a perfectly good red dot. I'm not sure I'd try it on something with the recoil of an S12 though.
  9. Order 211 - woo hoo! I was literally sitting there at the computer for like 20 or 30 minutes waiting for order page to become available. Not that I'm, you know, obsessive or anything. I'm actually impressed that there were that many orders ahead of mine. I thought I was quick...
  10. You might be referring to the AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) video on AK triggers. With a little bit of skill and some basic tools you should be able to modify an AK trigger to 2-stage. You just need to be careful and be sure you know what you're doing before you start so that you don't make it an unsafe trigger. The video goes into detail on that point. I recommend it, very informative.
  11. Naturally I found the other recent thread on this topic right -after- I posted this. D'oh. That said, if there are any -new- opinions on the topic, please share.
  12. Well, my S12 conversion is underway and I need to start thinking about iron sights to replace the stock sight. The current setup is the top rib + bead, and while that's better than nothing I'd rather have something a little more rifle-like. I see that there are options from Krebs as well as the Tromix/HK-style irons. I'm pretty fond of the Scattergun ghost rings that I've used on some Remmy 870s, but I don't think they make a Saiga version of that. I had an S12 about a year ago that had the Krebs irons, and it was a decent sight. I have only a little bit of experience with HK-style sights
  13. Er, not to be argumentative - but Sportsman's Guide actually has a terrible reputation for -not- honoring the original price in back order situations. You may have been lucky, but I got jacked on some backordered .308 about a year ago. Lots of other people did too. They took the order, verified it, sent me a back order notice... then called to say I could still have it but the price had gone (way) up. Naturally I told them exactly where they could put the ammo. That said, I have some of the Wolf 00 buck on back order too - figured at that price I'd give 'em another chance. But Sportsman's
  14. Pointer, have you noticed any inconsistencies with the Wolf 00 buck? I bought a bunch of it and noticed my first trip to the range that about 1 in 5 or 6 rounds had a distinctly different report than the rest. The recoil and patterns seemed to be the same, but some rounds made a much, much deeper 'boom' than the rest. The amount of muzzle flash seemed to be different, too. I'm curious to know if you (or anyone else) has encountered that...
