Avtomat Kalashnikova's dont jam...
loki0629 replied to sicktooth's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Yep. In theory I can fire my AK using my feet but I'm not going to expect it to work properly either. BTW don't try this at home folks, it was meant as a tongue-in-cheek response. -
Yep but the OP said he loads for accuracy on his weapons and I just wanted him to see what someone else was able to accomplish. It would be damn near impossible to beat that type of grouping though. I'll be honest and say that even if I followed his load data I'm not sure if I can repeat that. I'm no slouch on an AR either as I've been able to get a 3 shot zeroing group to fit under a 5" spotting disk at 200 yards and with iron sights. There's another member (bossman) who hasn't posted for a while but he loads for the .308 and his groups were damn close to aksarben's. He was also nice enough

A forum member here (aksarben) has managed to wring single hole groups out of the .223 AK at 100yds. I can't find his posts here on this forum but he posted it on another forum. http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/showthread.php?t=72144 You can do it if you have the inclination.

marlborocowboy92, Watch this video before proceeding. If any of it looks beyond your capabilities then you may want to farm out the job. The tools required are very basic but I would advice you to get some dental picks as well because I found them useful when I did my conversion. If there is anything you're unclear about, ask some more. There might be someone in your area willing to help you out.

Opinions on this deal.
loki0629 replied to TO THE FLOOR IN A 63's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
If he never indicated in the original conversation that the sale was pending his receipt of this money from a third party, I say put it up for sale again. Why the hell would he negotiate someone to a price point if he didn't have the funds to cover it in the first place? In my opinion he renegged on his part of the sale by first telling you he was mailing funds and then later changing it to waiting on money from someone else. If you're concerned that he's going to start bad-mouthing you on the other board, I think anyone with a sense of fairness would see your side of things after you -
What kind of accuracy are you getting from your Saiga 308?
loki0629 replied to AK-308's topic in Saiga .308
spitstickler, that's some nice shooting! Don't be surprised if the SMK 168 actually does worse than the cheap monarch. The saiga barrel is a 1:12 twist rate so it won't do well with heavier bullets. 168 may be ok though. Keep us posted on your results. I shoot about 2.5 MOA at 100yds with iron sights using Brown Bear in a prone supported position. I could do better with a scope but haven't settled on one yet. My .308 is the 16" barrel version with a tapco fcg. I've mentioned to several people on several forums about what an undervalued weapon this is but they don't seem to be listening. Th -
That looks like some pretty interesting gear. I really like how the elevation and windage knobs are readily adjustable without having to remove the cover and then use a coin/screwdriver/fingernail, etc. The only reservation I have is the height. Might be a good candidate to mate up with the TWS dogleg rail though. Regardless, thanks for mentioning this!

skeleton stock cheek weld: what am I doing wrong?
loki0629 replied to dobeman's topic in Saiga 7.62 X 39
No prob at all dobeman. Enjoy the weapon! That skeleton stock may seem ok for now but trust me, convert the weapon and you'll be amazed at how much better it handles. I had the same stock on my .308 and I can't believe I waited so long to change it. -
skeleton stock cheek weld: what am I doing wrong?
loki0629 replied to dobeman's topic in Saiga 7.62 X 39
The cheek pad is to be used if you mount an optic on the weapon because your cheek weld needs to sit higher in order to look through the tube. But if you're just using irons you'll need to rotate the pad out of the way. -
308 or 223?
loki0629 replied to Salmonking's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
The 7.62x39 will hit out to 400. But at 300+ you really need to know how to dope your weapon, which the standard ak iron sights are woefully lacking in ability. If you have the standard sights, I recommend using a 6 o'clock hold and use kentucky windage based on impact. I also recommend spending the money on a windage adjustable rear sight. If the carbine class allows you to use optics, I'd use that. But the rifle you have is adequate to the task. -
Nice!

Hang in there man! Good times don't last forever but thankfully, neither do bad times. -
308 or 223?

I tried...I really did! Besides, the max range on your miniguns is something like a hundred miles isn't it? You guys get much cooler toys! -

For some. For others it's 500 meters. -

Saiga .308 for a couple of reasons: 1) easiest conversion 2) it will hit at 400 3) it does just fine with a 16" barrel (not much velocity drop) Hope that helps. -

It's not just the unions. The minimum wage laws and all the other onerous regulations have a lot to do with it. According to political theory, it's better to over regulate a business to the point of driving them elsewhere than to leave them alone and let the market sort out who wins and who loses. If you're looking for the government to protect your market, you're not a capitalist but a mercantilist. Capitalists protect their market share through innovation and the competitive drive to produce a better product or service...you know, just like the multiple vendors here who sell the same ty -
I'm assuming she meant the old drill of clean, shoot one, clean/ shoot 5, clean/ shoot 10-15, clean. There are multiple variations of this drill but honestly I don't see the point in a chrome lined barrel.

I live in NJ and work out of Philly. If you're in that area I can help. My next two weekends are booked up though because my son is in a travel hockey league. I converted my .308 over the winter and I'm glad I did it. Start by watching this conversion video:

What I got out of all this was "I'm glad I gave up my seat at jump school". Seriously, nice post Bounce. I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know what the impetus was that started this whole thing (don't particularly care either) but I'm glad to have heard your story. -
Use frangible ammo.

SGM 308 bolt on muzzle brake now available $169.95
loki0629 replied to gpqueen's topic in Saiga .308
My 2 cents is that the definition of "accuracy" to a high power shooter is going to be different than "accuracy" to a 3 gunner. This product looks like it was designed for the 3 gunner and their version of accuracy...meaning that your groups should shrink within the timeframe that you normally shoot your .308. I don't know for sure if this is what these guys had in mind but there certainly seems to be a disconnect between what they are offering and what customers are expecting. They really need to address that. Regardless I still want to say thanks to the ones that have done their evaluati -
Siaga in .22LR!
loki0629 replied to Alexc.s.'s topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Nuts. For those of us that live in communist states, that 30-rd looking mag is gonna get us a rash of crap at the range. I've been holding off getting a 22lr AK waiting for this rifle. Maybe I'll just paint "10RD MAG" in blaze orange on the side. Yeah, yeah I know, just move out of the state. If that was even remotely possible I would have done it a long time ago. -
montrose, don't know how anyone missed your question (myself included) but here's my two cents: Yes to all. You'll need a gas tube rail mount if you want the red dot that far forward. Otherwise, you can get a side rail mount and set up a red dot over the receiver cover.

Try switching ammo brands. I had really good luck with Remington value pack "target" loads. It just so happened that was what I had on hand when I bought the s-12, it worked fine, and I stuck with it for breaking in the shotgun. I probably have over 1k of that load through the gun.

I would add dental picks to sapper's tool list. The 308 doesn't need a bullet guide and the pistol grip hole was already there in my rifle. If you go with the pre-formed Tapco fire control groups, keep in mind that the safety on the 308 may not work because it needs about another 1/8 of material to engage the safety. You can replace it with a regular ak safety or order the Dinzag fire control group.
