  1. No. You're confusing tumbling with keyholing. If a round doesn't punch a nice clean round hole in paper, then it wasn't spinning on it's axis, which is what the rifling in the barrel is supposed to do.
  2. I've read that guys account and think it's bullshit. For example, where was the rest of his fireteam? He wants me to believe that he got separated from the rest of his team while he jumped a fence and engaged 8 of the muj by himself? Only a fucking idiot does something like that in urban combat. There's a reason why the fireteam is the smallest element in an infantry platoon. The team stays together...always! There isn't a single instance in his narrative that accounts for the rest of his fireteam. As I read it, this guy is in some residential back yard, by himself, engaging the enemy in a clo
  3. An AK bullpup's greatest weakness is it's inability to be used left handed. If it can't be shot left handed, I wouldn't take it to a fight. So for me, a bullpup is only half as useful as a regular shotgun or rifle. Besides, I can always short-stock a standard AK in cramped quarters.
  4. There are others who've used them on their rifles but there doesn't seem to be much practical use for it on a shotgun. Personally, I prefer the notch and front bead for the s-12. I've used peep/ghost ring sights on shotguns (M1014) and I think the s-12 setup is faster for acquiring multiple targets because of a more open field of view. Just my two cents though.
  5. The Army also doesn't take 500yd shots with iron sights. Marines use slings. Using a sling in combat is a matter of personal preference and situational requirements. Again, I want to point out there is a huge difference between marksmanship and combat shooting. One is the theory, the other is practical application. You need both to maximize your abilities on the rifle.
  6. I dunno GeorgiaPD, it sounds like he was overly casual with a loaded firearm. If it was leaning against an atv, the proper thing to would have been to make sure the chamber was empty. Kind of like what should be done climbing up and down a tree stand.
  7. Mods, if I'm transgressing here please delete with my apologies: davidbosen@yahoo.com or coyotetactical@gmail.com I haven't tried to send him an email as I won't be ready to order from him until after Christmas.
  8. Another year older, another year grumpier! Happy Birthday!
  9. Phoneguy you're about to find out how deep this rabbit hole goes. Welcome!
  10. I'll hand it to any MARINE. You guys do more with less than any armed force in the world. I'm not even going to get into the lack of armor kits for HMMVW's or ACOG's for the rifles. Sometimes we patrolled with Army psyops and we looked like the Beverly Hillbillies driving next to a Formula 1 racer.
  11. Krisfox, In '04 and '05 there were Marines still using the 'A2 series of M16's. I was one of them. They were transitioning to the M16A4's with the full length barrel and fixed stock. Mags were very hit or miss. Some were new, some were old.
  12. So you're saying that the converted S-12 is illegal because no one in "authority" has said it's legal? If you are aware of a specific statute that says that it is illegal, then please enlighten us. Otherwise, like NY, the Dragunov style stock is technically legal as it is considered a thumbhole stock and not a pistol grip. A converted S-12 is still limited to a 5 round mag though. In regards to rifles, a fully converted, non-collapsible stock Saiga is absolutely legal with a mag limit of 15 rounds.
  13. will486, Your post was very similar to posts other forum members had made and it was simply the nearest one for me to use as an example. I know I quoted you but it wasn't personal. At any rate, if you find yourself in a situation where you need a weapon, you're not really going to care about the type of weapon. If you end up signing on with a PMC, you'll end up using whatever they issue you from their company armory.
  14. The AK does have a different noise signature than an AR, but an AK being fired does not mean hostile contact. An AK being fired at YOU is defined as hostile contact and you react appropriately. If another group (fire team, squad, platoon) is being engaged by hostile fire, you'll hear it on the radio and again, you react appropriately. Private military contractors (PMC's) use AK's, as well as RPG's. We almost shot up a bunch of Triple Canopy guys shooting from a rooftop. If they hadn't come up on our tac net and identified themselves, they would have been dead as doornails. Aegis is anothe
  15. Absolutely. Just make sure you don't accidentally bring a mag with a capacity over 15 rounds into this state.
  16. Genghis, I know you already started the stock but are you aware that to replace the standard trigger means converting the weapon to pistol grip format, which then means the stock would have to go partially under the receiver because the trigger is moved forward? If you are aware of this then I apologize but I hate to think of you wasting the wood by not factoring in the forward position of the trigger.
  17. 100m and under is not mid distance, especially not for the .308 and not even for the 7.62x39. You could triple that distance and you probably won't outshoot the saiga 308's potential. Even the .223 will go out there and reach someone at 500m and probably with better predictability as it is a flatter shooting round. If you're having accuracy issues at 100m and under I'm not sure switching platforms is going to resolve anything for you...but best of luck. Personally, I'll buy an AR when I have money to burn.
  18. most def: SaigaStock.com Too bad they won't sell them to NJ because they are "high capacity" despite the fact they they are legal in NJ.
  19. The best handgun is one that you can use under pressure and reliable enough to not let you down. Only hits count, not caliber or mechanical design. If you don't know much about handguns, go to a range and rent each one they have available. Then go to other ranges and do the same. Eventually you'll learn what works for you. In the end, it may turn out to be a .22 revolver.
  20. He's either lying or clueless. Take your pick, or better yet, take your business elsewhere. If he's that unwilling to verify facts or that unethical of a seller, you probably don't want to do business with his shop.
  21. I have one installed on my .308. Works well.
  22. Putting it back together can be a little tricky. You need to make sure that the bolt assembly is lined up with the area on the receiver with the cutouts that allows it to slide onto the rails. When you push it forward it can also get hung up on the hammer and will require some downward pressure to get it to slide through. Also if you want to remove the gas tube, you'll need to manipulate the small lever at the front of the handguard. Use the small cleaning tube as a handle. It has a slot that allows you to slide it over the lever. Might save you some layers of skin. Most of the details
