  1. I clean, lubricate, and protect all my firearms with CLP. Below is the easiest way I have found to clean AK type rifles or any other firearm. Contrary to what most people believe about leaving the gas system dry. Coating the gas piston, gas tube, and gas block with CLP allows the mircoscopic size particles of PTFE(Teflon) in it to get into the pores of the metal. This keeps the fouling from sticking to the metal as tight just like the teflon coating does on a non stick frying pan. The Teflon particles in the CLP provide all the lubrication a firearm needs. Just remember to shake the bottle well be
  2. The high mount is for scopes with objective lens that are over 32mm in diameter and the low mount is for scopes with 32mm or smaller objective lens diameters.
  3. Ditto on my 95 Saiga410 it has been 100% reliable from day one with 3" Remington,Winchester,Federal and Barnual slugs/#3 shot. I bought a 2-1/2" mag from EAA and have not been able to get it to feed reliably with shot or slugs. It does the same thing that some have reported with the Barnual ammo. The front of the shell hits above the chamber. I have fired 3 boxes of the Barnaul 00buck 12ga in my Saiga12 and it functioned 100%.
  4. From the Marlin/H&R/NEF website. "the .410/45 Colt model has a fully rifled barrel and screw-in choke for shotshell use." It is chambered for 3" 410 shells so you can use any 410 shell or Colt 45 ammo. By federal law the 45Colt/410 pistols must have a rifled barrel other wise they would be illegal sawed off shotguns. The single shot pistols have a 2.5" 410 chamber and the rest of the barrel is rifled. The double barrel pistols have a 3" chamber.
  5. The Chinese made two versions one for the SKS and the other for the AK. Both are based on the Russian PU scope mount for the WW II sniper versions of the M-91 Mosin Nagant rifle. The SKS vesion doesn't have the ears that hang down with the screw holes for mounting like the AK version. The SKS version has screw holes in the part mounted on the receiver of the rifle where the slot is on the AK version. In the pic is the AK version mounted on a AK rifle. As you can see the ears are needed to due the way the internal parts are mounted in the receiver of a AK vs. the SKS rifle. Notice the large scr
  6. 22 rifles are not covered by this. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/assault/treasrelease.htm
  7. The first rifle chambered for the 5.45x39mm cartridge imported to the USA was the East German SSG-82 bolt action in the mid 1990's. The first AK rifle imported that was chambered for 5.45x39mm was the Romanian model C.U.R.2 imported by ACC/INTRAC of Knoxville,TN in 1997. For info on Romanian AK rifles chambered for 5.45x39mm see the Romanian Rifles page of http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/index.shtml Robinson Arms imports Russian VEPR model 5.45x39mm rifles. http://www.robarm.com/ There are also several small firearms mfgs. assembling rifles chambered for 5.45x39mm from AK-74 parts kits an
  8. The 7N6 military load with a 54 grain steel core bullet is on the left and a Barnaul 60 grain lead core bullet is on the right. As you can see the 7N6 has a steel core with a lead plug on top of it and a air space in the nose. This allows room for the steel and lead to shift foreword as soon as it impacts causing the bullet to become unstable and tumble. This increased damage to soft tissue over solid cored bullets. The Barnaul load preforms the same as the lead core shifts on impact so the bullet tumbles. The Russians observed the use of the M-16 with it's 55 grain M-193 bullet in the 196
  9. Olympic Arms got a bad rep for their use of non mil spec barrels and non 5.56 chambers. They sold the cheapest AR rifle and the cheapest rifle kits but they had problems with reliabilty due to the barrels not being chrome lined. This is the reason they say you can't use laquered case ammo in their rifles. The laquer used on the cases really had nothing to do with it. It was the excessive amount of bullet and primer sealer applied to the Wolf 223 ammo. As you can see by the arrows in the pic the sealer has run down on to the neck of the case and the body. In the ruff as a cob non chrome lined
  10. Here is a pic of what a member of another board did to his mount to adjust for the lack of the scopes internal adjustment and the large diameter of the 50mm objective lens.
  11. Never hurt my Saiga shooting buckshot or slugs with the full choke.
  12. #2 shot? What is the charge weight circled and cartridge lot stamped on the end flap of the box? It has a 2 stamped in the blank circle next to the word "shot" on the side of the box?
  13. All Valtro shotguns are made by the same company in Italy. The shotguns are the same it is the features offered and importers that has changed. Valtro mags are too wide for a Saiga shotgun so more than "relocate the rear lug higher" will be involved in making them work in a Saiga.
  14. If you look close you will notice the battle sight settting and the 300 meter setting raise the rear sight to the same height.
  15. Well the only thing imported so far by Barnaul is slugs and #3 birdshot. The #4 buck sounds like a home defense load. I was wondering if anyone has seen any yet.
  16. Those 7 shot mags are for this shotgun. http://www.valtrousa.com/shotguns.html
  17. I have 3 Leapers scopes and they are a real good deal for the money. My Saiga came from the factory with this scope mounted on it. http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/cgi-bin/kowst...alogno=GSPO3520 The mount was also designed to use this scope. http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/cgi-bin/kowst...alogno=GSPO432P
  18. I have 9-75rd Chinese drums,3-100rd Chinese drums, and no Russian or Romanian drums. 11 of my drums have been loaded and fired 5+ times with some 10+ times without a single jam, misfeed,or any other problem. All have been 100% reliable. One 75rd drum is still new in the wrap. About 10 years ago a friend bought 2 Russian drums on one of our shooting trips. After loading and firing them twice we looked at our red sore thumbs and came to the conclusion that Chinese drums are for shooting and Russian drums are collecting. He put the Russian drums back in the truck and we shot the rest of the afte
  19. The rifles that were imported as a standard SKS rifles then converted by Midwest Ordnance to use AK magazines are easy to spot. As they have a SKS magazine release. Midwest Ordnance also cut the barrels on some of these comversion rifles to 16" and cut/reshaped the bayonets so they would fit into the cut in the underside of the stock. Midwest Ordnance brought reps from China Jing An to see how they modified the SKS rifles. In 1988 the first factory made SKS rifles that used AK mags were imported. Though they have no markings on the receiver or the box as to model name the manual li
  20. All sight adjustment is done with the front sight. The rear sight is marked 1,2,3 which is 100,200,300 meters. Although the rear sight is not marked the same you sight the Saiga in just like on this website with a AK rifle. http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/sightin.htm A sight tool can be bought or you can use brass punch and hammer to adjust the windage. Being a cost effective(cheap) type guy I use a steel punch with a fired 22lr case slipped on the end to keep from boggering up the sight. Just remember the first time the sight is adjusted for windage it will be really hard to move so you wi
  21. This ad apeared in the March/April issue of Rifleshooter magazine. Notice there are slugs and buckshot listed. http://www.dkgtrading.com/bearammo/gbsshell.html Lists it as #4 buckshot which is a .24" diameter lead ball. Checking all the retail dealers links on the Bear site none of the had any. Anyone know any more on this?
  22. Using a mag from a bolt action shotgun sounds good in theory but they are only 2-3 rd mags. When you can find one they are $30-$35 each.
  23. http://www.hollandandholland.com/history/history2.htm The last two inches of the shotguns barrels has shallow slow twist rifling cut into it. Firing shot shells the barrel functions just like a regular shotgun barrel. But when fired with paradox loads which is a single lead ball that is bore size the shallow rifling grabs the ball and spins it. This spin greatly increases accuracy over what a non rifled shotgun barrel does with the same size lead ball. It gives you almost rifle accuracy out of a shotgun. So a paradox choke tube for a Saiga would be rifled to increase accuracy.
  24. The manual that came with my 1995 imported Saiga 410 has 1.06.95. written in as Date of manufacture. The barrel length printed in the manual is 518mm which equals 20.393700787401574803149606299213 inches. With the choke screwed on the total barrel length would be around 22 inches.
