  1. I ordered my bullet guide from dinzag last year, but I had a limited budget to do this project, and with shopping around I got a USA made stock, USA lower handguard, USA pistol grip, pistol grip screw and nut, tapco USA made FCG, and retainer plate for $102.00 (shipping was $28.00 of that 102) What I didn't get was the top hand guard, gas tube, and lower hand guard retainer ( i figured I would do the front half later, but bought the lower hand guard because of price and i was already paying for the shipping) Plus, everything was at my door 3 days later wish me luck on the PG conver
  2. parts for the trigger / pistol grip conversion are on the way!! BUT.........i didn't order the black plastic plugs for the old holes or a lower hand guard retainer. can i buy those black plugs locally? (home depot /lowes) if so, what are they called? what section? also, does anybody know where to get the lower hanguard retainer CHEAP? i plan on modifying whatever one i can find (with a dremel) , or does anybody have a "quick fix / shade tree mechanic way" to attach the lower hand guard without one? p.s. shipping ain't cheap thanks!!!!
  3. that kit for $83 is perfect!! , but I want the front half to look like a "classic" (upper hand guard/lower hand guard) if I'm thinking correctly, don't i need a hanguard retainer, a different gas tube?? thanks for helping me out!!
  4. Exactly!! (the part about being expensive) (it never occurred to me to go the usa magazine route) parts needed to make it the way i want are over almost $450 plus shipping!! maybe I should sell my 35 rd. orlites, thread my barrel, give up the classic look (with cleaning rod) and just do the USA made fire control group and mags. any other idea's are greatly appreciated!!! thanks!!
  5. Hi all, I have the .223 with a 20" barrel. I want to convert it to look like the "classic ak" (see attached pic except i don't want a folding stock). I have the bullet guide from dinzag, but I was wondering if any company sold a "whole kit" (pistol grip, hand guard, g2 fcg, fsb with threads, muzzel brake, cleaning rod, ect. EVERYTHING NEEDED) my goal is to convert it to look like the picture I know I can buy all the parts separatly, but i would think it would be easier/ cheaper to get all at once from one source. thanks
  6. when you tap the hole for the bullet guide, put the tap in a drill press, and turn the chuck by hand to thread the hole. It was a complete failure on my conversion trying to use the cheap harbor freight tap handle. 30 minutes of trying got me no where, but with the drill press, i was done in 5 min. also spray lots of wd-40 while doing it slowly
  7. Mine too! (First AK, that is) Yes, FCG and piston will get you legal. If you're NOT going to change the configuration to include a pistol grip, then you CAN'T use a standard AK replacement FCG. BattleRifleG3, another member of our merry band, sells FCG's that have been converted to do the job. Search this forum for "piston" and you'll find out which ones don't need to be shortened. HTH! Bill thanks guys!! I want to do the pistol grip eventually, but looks like i need a new fcg and piston once again, thanks!!!
  8. i have a saiga .223. i have a bullet guide, and orlite mags (UNINSTALLED!!) If I do install these, what do I have to change to be legal. I searched this forum and read the things on 922r compliant, but i think i need someone in plain english to say " replace x with y, and replace a with b". also, if i'm not as dumb as i feel, and i need to replace the fcg and piston with usa made parts, where is the best place to get them? one more question.....how come the cleaning rod doesnt fit under the barrel like other ak's i've seen? be nice, it's my first ak!!! also, thanks in advanc
  9. +1 for stanley's. Very nice, helpful.
  10. 16" .223 are running $239 shipped from Stanley's Pro shop. Even if you are being bent over a stump on a transfer fee you should be able to beat $309 plus your state tax... I just bought my 20" for $255 shipped, so again, even if you are being bent over a stump on the transfer fee you should be able to beat $309 plus state tax ans you would have the 20"er you really want. I bought the 20" from stanley's as well for $256 inc. shipping (no tax). what sucks though is waiting for it!!! but my ffl dealer charges $15 for transfers. so i just have to wait for paperwork to make its way.
  11. Grats, dude. I paid a little more than $300 for mine at a gun show but when you consider paying FFL charges and having to wait on the ones you have to order online I figure it was equal if not a better deal than ordering. Ive decided to do my own as well! I figure I might as well since I have two saigas now so doing two conversions will justify buying some tools. Good luck on yours! BTW this board is an excellent place to start. I'll jump on the wagon as well, Purchased mine online for $256 inc. shipping (stanleys) plus $15 for the transfer, but the worst thing i
