  1. I can appreciate that. But would it have worked? The reason I ask is that I'm getting mine converted and currently have the T6 installed. I wasn't sure if I needed to go out and grab a new AK style SAW grip or if I could re-use the existing one from the T6. Thanks! MoF Yes, it will work. It'll be a few inches longer than the standard Tapco T6.

  3. +1 After finally getting it installed on my first conversion, I found the position (next to the trigger) bothered me so much I ended up taking it out. I used a small washer next to the hammer to fill the space where the BHO was (not needed on unaltered AK hammers). If I decide I need a BHO, I'll go with the altered safety lever. YMMV.
  4. +1 on the E-Clips. I've used them on three conversions so far. If you're planning to order anything from Dinzag, he sells them 3 for 50 cents. http://www.dinzagarms.com/misc_parts/misc_parts.html
  5. The number of US parts doesn't matter, it's the number of foreign made 922r listed parts (10 or less = compliant). http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/BuildSaigaVerifyCompliance http://home.comcast.net/~navy87guy/home/922r.html Basically if you convert the imported gun to a condition in which it could not be legally imported, 922r applies and you must reduce the number of foreign parts (listed in 922r) to 10 or less. Saigas are not imported with pistol grips, although the Russians do make them in that form. Since they don't import them (despite their obvious market appeal) it's logic

  8. no the original 8 rnd always worked fine If the factory magazine works, but not the Surefire, it's a Surefire magazine problem. Contact Surfire (contact info is included with the magazine). I've had good luck with their customer service. I'm sure they'll replace the magazine.

As long as you don't add a pistol grip. If you do, it's no longer 'sporting.' There are some that disagree with this. But, the test for 922r applying is importability. That is, if your rifle is in a configuration in which it could be legally imported, 922r does not apply. The idea that you can add a pistol grip to a Saiga and have 922r not apply (as long as you use low cap mags) makes no sense. If this were the case, RAA would be able to import the Saiga models with pistol grips that are sold in other countries.

ProMag makes a Saiga specific magazine. So does Surefire To use an AK magazine will require some alterations to the gun and/or magazine. Unfortunately, unlike 7.62x39mm, there's really no standard .223 (5.56x45mm) AK magazine. There are some dimensional differences that need to be addressed. You'll likely need a bullet guide as well. If you decide to go with the Saiga ProMags, I really recommend buying just one to try out before buying any more. I've yet to have a polymer ProMag function in any rifle without some tweaking, and I don't trust them except as range mags. YMMV. I've
  11. Right, because 10 is the largest mag that will fit without altering the gun. As soon as you alter the gun to accept double stack mags 922r applies (even if the gun is sold with a 5 round double stack mag).
  12. You might want to look again, as both Surefires and ProMag design magazines to work in Saigas without alterations. Also, if what you say were true, why aren't Saiga's imported with pistol grips? They're made for sale elsewhere with them, and judging by the thriving market in conversion parts, they'd sell better. Saiga-12K, 12S, and 12S EXP01 (also similar models in .410 and 20) http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga12.shtml Saiga-M3 EXP-01 http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga-m3exp.shtml Saiga-MK and Saiga-5.6S http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga.shtml
  13. I'm sorry, this makes no sense at all. If that were the case, why would IZHMASH spend all the money and effort to create the Saiga sporter configuration? Why not just import them with a pistol grip and 10 (or 5) round magazine?
  14. You might want to confirm that. I was told the combination of a pistol grip and the ability to accept a magazine holding over 10 rounds (5 for a shotgun) was 'non-sporting'. This is why WASR's had to be imported with single stack magazines. If what you say were true, they could just import them with low capacity double stack mags.
  15. Except he's adding a pistol grip. Doesn't that bring the whole unimportble/'non-sporting' issue into play, regardless of the magazine used?
  16. http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/BuildSaigaVerifyCompliance Adding US made parts isn't what matters, it's how many 922r foreign parts you remove/replace. Once your 922r foreign parts count is 10 or less, you're compliant. A Saiga shotgun with threaded muzzle has 14 922r parts, as imported. The trigger guard is not a 922r part, so replacing it does not count towards compliance. The Saiga is not imported with a pistol grip, so adding a US made pistol grip would not count towards compliance (but adding a foreign pistol would actually add to the 922r parts count and count against comp

  18. Samco has Yugoslavian Surplus (Brass cased, but corrosive) $104.58 for 420 rounds or $301.14 for a 1,260 round case: http://www.samcoglobal.com/Ammunition.html Ammo4Guns has Wolf MC for $229.95 per 1,000 round case or Golden Tiger for $244.95 per 1,000 round case: http://www.ammo4guns.com/RIFLE_AMMO.html Cabela's has Wolf MC for $144.99 for 500 or $259.99 for 1,000 (both come in steel ammo boxes): http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...requestid=16386

  20. O.K., it's a Tapco Intrafuse. Simple swap.
  21. Which Tapco stock? If it's the Intrafuse (pistol grip attached to stock and your trigger guard is at the rear of the receiver) it's just a matter of removing a few screws and pulling out one stock, then inserting the other. If the trigger is in the standard AK position (pistol grip attached to receiver) you'd be better off trading rifles with someone that has an unconverted Saiga if you're set on the sporter stock.
  22. Correct. Your 922r count is 11, at this point (14 -1 -1 -1 =11). It's -3 for US made magazines. So 11 - 3 = 8 (compliant). The +3 USA parts (and all the other +1 USA) are not meaningful, in and of themselves, towards 922r compliance. It's the total number of (922r listed) foreign parts that matter.
  23. The shotguns are 13 only with an unthreaded muzzle. They're 14 if threaded.
  24. Yes, it's compliant, but only as long as you use the Surefires (or other US made magazines). Once you add the pistol grip 922r applies (so using the factory magazine would no longer comply without chaning more 922r parts). The Saiga is imported with 14 922r foreign parts. 14 - 1 (for Tapco butt stock) - 0 (Tapco pistol grip*) - 3 (US made magazine) =10 (922r compliant) * - The Tapco Intrafuse only counts as - 1 towards compliance since you're only removing one 922r foreign part. It's not how many US parts you add, it's how many (922r) foreign parts you remove. The Saiga is importe
