  1. I'd use the synth furniture myself for hunting, just because it's less valuable and less brittle.
  2. The Russians made the S-12 as close as possible to the original AK to use as many parts as possible. Take that factor out and you can design for less expensive manufacturing. I think an American company could produce a shotgun similar in capability to the S-12 for under a grand, but it wouldn't be interchangeable, just "inspired" by the S-12. Figure you'd save some manufacturing and money by not converting to sporter config and then converting back to p-grip. I could make such a shotgun. Just give me the time and money. What I can't promise to do is compete effectively with people
  3. I don't think there will be any problem with that stock, but tread lightly. That stock IS a pistol grip by almost all objective definitions in the laws. But it is allowed because it is a "sporting" pistol grip, the same way HK-91 clones came in with PSG-1 style grips for a time after regular P-grips were not allowed. But it would take nothing at all for someone to call that "non-sporting". Even if it's complete nonsense. So I would consider that stock safe to use in unmodified form. But I won't make a stock like it and tell everyone it's ok.
  4. I feel that every design has its merits, and what matters is what best suits your tastes and comfort. A gun you can use effectively and practice with enjoyably will be a good choice for any use, "sporting" or not.
  5. Thanks for posting pics! Your carbine shows the difference with the extended handguard much more than my long barreled rifle does.
  6. I'm a total retard. I rewatched the video and at the end the music is credited. I also missed an earlier post by Combat Medic answering my question and I subsequently said I was still looking for the source. If anyone has any lead on a translation or at least the original lyrics, that would be awesome.
  7. My position is that there will be a heck of a lot more trouble if we ASK ATF to make a ruling than if we do what is not prohibited by law and shoot responsibly. I made the same analogy in another thread. If you're doing nothing wrong, but your neighbor calls the cops on you because he doesn't like you, the police are still going to tell you to do something different so they can't be accused of ignoring the issue. So DON'T call the ATF and demand a ruling on a magazine combination. This isn't a technical issue like what does and doesn't count as a receiver. This is something that is
  8. Guns that become full autos by grinding a trigger part are UNSAFE and can fire prematurely. Proper closed bolt full autos (ie true military assault rifles) have a special component that holds the hammer back and releases it at the right time.
  9. One other thing to consider, something having everything to do with why peopel on forums have the position that they do. If you indicate that you've broken a law or disregard them online, that's different from doing it in private without hurting anyone. If you post about your violation and act like it doesn't matter, law enforcement will have no choice but to take action, even if they don't really care. Choosing what to investigate is something any LE officer and agency can do. Ignoring a violation that's posted in the open isn't something any LE agency can do.
  10. I believe it's still stamped. Actually the only angle cut milled receiver I've ever heard of is the Valmet, and consequently the Norinco hunter.
  11. Tony did one of those. Not sure if he's considering more, but if I went 458 Socom that would probably be it. Tony called it the Mega-14.
  12. The thing with legal gun owners hating illegal gun owners is mainly that we don't want to be associated with them, what they do, and what they have. In other words, what ticks us off even more than somebody considering an illegal conversion is somebody asking us how to do it on a publicly viewable forum on the internet. I know that's not what you were intending. Just understand that what you posted is something we see from time to time and get really really mad when we see.
  13. I think the general criteria is that you can't mod a piece into something that does the exact same thing. IE you can't mod a grip into a grip. You could use a buttstock as material to make a grip. Of course you CAN do it legally (as long as it's not into an NFA config), it just wouldn't count for US parts compliance.
  14. Never seen one in person, but if they had a decent length barreled 357 I'd be interested.
  15. Indeed, and the fact that you'd still need compliance parts - they'd just be drop-in.
  16. There aren't really any secrets to making the front end. Just takes work and tools. That's why I charge more for rifle handguards than shotgun handguards, which are attached in the front with a screw. I use the following tools: Hand drill with forstner bit Vertical milling machine with flat and ball end mills Special end-mill for machining a certain kind of slot - No one made exactly what I needed, so I made my own I do have one bit of advice to share - if you're venting your homemade handguard, vent it while it's a block. Much, much, much easier than venting a complete handguard
  17. I remember when Tromix was defined by big bore and other custom ARs.
  18. I don't know. I have never seen or heard of them before but that doesn't mean much. I don't follow the rifles much. Your loss. Yes, the 30-06s are here. They have an angle-cut receiver and a tang-less rear trunion, offering a superior trigger to the other unconverted Saigas. The downside - they have a lot of other stuff different too, if that matters to you. A conversion would be a huge deal. Tony did one in full AK config and the work was tremendous, so he indicated that he wouldn't do any more. This is mine. Never seen another wooden set for one anywhere in the world.
  19. Calling something a tactical accessory - ok, no problem. People posting on forums saying "I want to make my gun tactical" makes me want to bang my head on something. Let it be known that while I make military length handguards, grooved ergonomic grips, and even installed a rail once, I don't make "tactical" accessories. I make furniture. Folks who use their guns for something besides compensating would benefit from thinking about the specific merits of a flashlight, laser, grips, shell holders, slings, bayonets, and such, vs an idea of a "tactical" gun. Which would be an otherwise u
  20. Warthog was very timely, courteous, supportive, and appreciative throughout the process of having a custom stock set made. Would gladly do business with him at every opportunity.
  21. Another S-308 Set. This is the CCG buttstock with an extended length Saiga style handguard, in walnut. This handguard is designed to go most of the way to the muzzle on a S-308 carbine. Almost an International/Schuetzen style.
  22. If your initials are JC and you sent me a payment in a priority envelope with signature required, please PM or E-mail me with your name, address, and the amount for identification purposes, and let me know which order was yours. Thanks very much! Edit: E-mail received, mods delete if desired. If Jesus came to me to buy a stock set, I'd be honored to say the least. Plus it would answer a few debates over His position on self and national defense.
  23. My mag mod is on the shelf, but is basically developed. It allows mildly modified G3 mags to work in a heavily modified S-308, including a significant piece of hardware. The advantage is that the mags will still work in a G3. I developed my conversion during the now expired ban, when modified hi-caps had to still work in the original gun to be legal. M14 mags require less modification to the rifle, but more modification per mag.
  24. Here's a newly completed set modeled on my newly acquired unconverted S-308.
