The VEPR stock is also on different specs. I suppose it could be modified to fit the S-12, but the result might be a bit awkward. If you find a source for the VEPR buttstock assembly, let me know, cause I'm looking to make a skeleton stock for the VEPR and since I don't have one myself, would need one to use as a model.

There are 20 parts, of which you may only have 10 imported and it remain a domestic rifle. They are: 1 Barrel 2 Receiver 3 Trunion 4 Barrel extension 5 Barrel attachment 6 Gas piston 7 Operating rod 8 Bolt 9 Bolt carrier 10 Trigger 11 Trigger housing 12 Hammer 13 Disconnecter 14 Sear 15 Buttstock 16 Handguard 17 Pistol grip 18 Mag floorplate 19 Mag body 20 Mag follower Trigger group is 3 parts. Gas tubes and firing pins are unaffected by the import law.

I thought the same thing, but when I got a used Saiga 223, its action was beat to hell and the action rod could barely be pulled out of the trunion. Maybe it's the steel used in the Saiga trunions, I dunno. That's just one experience of mine.

WHICH AK bayonet is the question. I'd sure like to know what's out there so I can make lugs for AKs.

You can become US compliant with a FCG, Pistol grip, and buttstock. No need to change piston. I'd check to see if the Saiga shotgun piston is close to the length of the Krinkov piston.

Somehow, though, the SIG bayonet seems to look great on the Saiga. Hey, did anyone measure the ID of the M16's bayonet loop hole? Wonder how it compares to the SIG.

Hope you guys can understand that I'm eager to meet everyone's wants and needs, but everything will take time and not everything will take form. But I'd sure like to offer everything I can.

We REALLY need a domestic source for those mags. Surely someone will step up and offer them, and in greater capacities. Perhaps after the ban dies?

I was actually thinking one long cylinder with a lug at the rear, and reaching around the front of the barrel at the front. Of course Mauser bayonets are still tempting...

Thanks a bunch for that measurement. Sadly, the SIG bayonet's ID is 0.872. If there was a huge interest, I might get a reamer for the bayonets. Or possibly make a one piece mount with an extension beyond the barrel. What say ye all? I could also make one for Mauser Bayonets that puts the whole thing under the barrel.

I was actually thinking of making a front site for a 12ga. Only problem is I don't have a 12ga Saiga. If you can measure your barrel diameter (preferably within a few thousandths) and somehow figure out how high the site level is, I can try to produce a standard AK style one. Maybe I'll make enough money in my gun accessories sales to buy an S12 (after all the coming bills and other guns I want more). Of course you've mentioned having access to tools, so maybe you'll enjoy making your own as much. Whatever works best for you.

Exactly, I would want one that folds to the left. Easyier to operate with the left hand while the right is on the grip, and as you said, not on the same side as the action. Not sure yet about Krinkov style, I'd want to see an original first. Plus I wouldn't want to step on FSE's patents if they have any. As I said, mine would be latched open, and would shut by torsion spring action.

Phooey, mine will be a chunk under $50... $100 for the mount, $80 for the bayonet... How about $50 (gross overestimate) for the lug and $15 for the bayo? You guys are killing me talking about spending this much... Just measure the barrel! Besides, I think the SIG bayonet looks better on the Saiga. If you guys want a real pig sticker bayonet, I'll design a mount to fit the Mauser bayonet. What say y'all?

I said I was only going to work on a fixed stock for the time being, but if you guys would go for a metal tubular folding stock designed exclusively for AK (as opposed to Tapco's plastic and ACE's universal modular) I'll see about designing one. Price would be between the two (roughly between $50-100, so like $70-85). Finish and padding would be bare bones, intended for you to add your own. My current concept is spring loaded, with a latch holding it open that you can depress to instantly close it on top of your fingers, causing bruises and possibly bleeding (just kidding, I'll try to find

Well, if SOMEONE would be so kind as to measure their barrel diameter, it would help get the product out soner! In the meantime, I'll be making one for a friend's (formerly my) Saiga 20.

Well then, you could help me by measuring your barrel diameter with a caliper or micrometer. Down to 0.001" would be best. If you can, that would really help to get things going. I'd like to offer an integrated front site, but I'm aware that different S-12s have different site heights, or so I've been told.

Bayonets and bayonet mounts ARE NOT on the list of 20 parts. They ARE NOT restricted on shotguns by the AWB. Someone somewhere said a bayo might be considered a barrel attachment. I think it unlikely, as you could say the same about a front site assembly.

The trunion is what the barrel is mounted into that the bolt also locks into. If the bolt locks into the receiver, there is probably no trunion. Stamped AKs have a trunion, milled ones do not. Neither to SKSs or FALs. G3s do. Some people call the rear mount on an AK receiver that accepts the buttstock and recoil rod a "rear trunion" Originally, trunions were the cylinders extending from the sides of muzzleloading cannons that held it in place in the carriage.

That is the case UNTIL the AWB sunsets.

I think the SIG bayonet is a great knife in and of itself. If there is interest I will make mounts for them, though I do not have a Saiga 12 to model it, so I will need co-operation. A front site is also a possibility, like on the same piece. I will plan to make them, even if on an individual basis. This is only a plan, though, so don't bet the farm on it, but just to be on the same page it is my plan to make such a thing. It would be legal now, since bayo lugs on shotguns are unrestricted.

There is a fellow developing one and trying to get it into production. However, since you will need US parts to do the conversion legally, and since the FCG can be easily found, and is a tremendous improvement over the original, I would highly recommend doing the standard P-grip conversion.

That is what DPMS offers, and my designs, though completely different, attach in a similar manner, with tightening screws or locking pins. The gas block lugs do not touch the barrel. The one for the shotgun would, but in a uniform manner, and like you said, it's a smoothbore anyway.

I figured I'd get an idea of what sort of gas block front sites people were looking for, since I was talking about offering them. Most of these would require some modification to your Saiga handguard, which would be explicitly described with the product.
