  1. I had the EXACT same idea for using a Sig bayonet, as they're cheap and have a large ring, also the lug wouldn't seem too hard to make. That's actually what my friend's Saiga 20 will be equipped to take.
  2. Some places will sell US compliance combos, like Tapco. They packaged a piston, FCG, and SAW grip. I sold the piston and got a US buttstock instead, I recommend that route. I wish they offered compliance kits with buttstock instead of piston, since you must install a new buttstock for the Pgrip conversion but the old piston will work fine.
  3. Thanks a bunch for doing your homework and sharing the results! I will do a similar conversion with confidence now.
  4. The tubular stock I plan to offer does not fold, but could certainly handle the recoil of a 12ga. Heck, I'd even say 12ga 3.5"
  5. Yes, they both will. In addition, I am planning to offer a fixed skeleton stock as well. AKM/AK-74/AK-100/Saiga stocks tend to interchange with little or no adjustment.
  6. Rem 870 P-gripped buttstock adaptor seems doable, bayonet lug, we'll see, depends on the bayonet, but it is on the agenda. Front post site definitely will look into. Hope you guys can be patient.... This is a lotta stuff.
  7. Yugo never imported a D model. Those were Norinco. Never read that a bayonet can be counted as a muzzle attachment. Can you identify your source there? It would be a big deal if correct.
  8. The VEPR is a whole different animal to convert, since it is bigger in every dimension. Saiga 308s have a very innovative feeding system that can't be changed as easily and remain safe as the VEPR. My conversion is a whole new ballgame from anything else out there. I religiously avoid touching the trunion and push back towards the FCG. Will share pics as they become available.
  9. Welding isn't within my means, nor is working on other people's guns. I can do clamp on accessories for those who want them. I plan to offer a bayonet mount without the site for those wanting other site options.
  10. I think it's a waste of great features to remove the bayonet and muzzle threads. Just install a fixed USA mag that you can get from CDNN, replace Stock, handguard, piston, and Op Rod, and then wait for the ban to sunset. Then you can stick in your US made detachable mags and have all your formerly restricted features as long as you keep the parts count legal.
  11. I have been designing these things for a LONG time. I have just gotten the tool sto make them happen. They'll come in time, but I'm trying to get the ideas out to see what people are most interested in.
  12. I used to baby my rifles until I came to a stark realization - they don't baby themselves. That bolt slams full force every time you fire and it cycles. So when charging, live or dry, pull it back and let it fly forward. On a G3, the bolt will not lock if you baby it forward. You MUST pull it all the way back and let it fly.
  13. I'll keep your thoughts in mind. Can't promise mine will be less bulky, but I could have it angle down to the barrel. And most importantly, it won't be above the gas block, it will attach to the front of the gas block.
  14. I believe it is Beech wood. Could be wrong, but that's what I've heard.
  15. Very good question. You basically have two laws to worry about - The import law and the AWB. The AWB expires in September. The import law says you basically can't do anything interesting to an imported gun. An imported gun has 11 or more of the following parts foreign made: 1. Barrel 2. Receiver 3. Barrel attachment - US available (DNA on non Yugo59/66) 4. Barrel extension - DNA 5. Piston - US available 6. Operating rod - US available 7. Trigger 8. Hammer 9. Disconnecter 10. Sear 11. Trigger guard 12. Bolt 13. Bolt carrier 14. Trunion - DNA 15. Buttstock - US available
  16. It attaches at the front by locking into the trunion the same way the original mag does. It attaches to the rear by screws in two of the mag catch holes. No welding involved I'm considering doing a 30-06 conversion some day using this same method but a drastically modified post AWB expiration legal BAR mag.
  17. If the AWB doesn't sunset, things will be the same as they are now. It's a future expansion that we'd have to worry about. I'm glad that it'll sunset without much noise (since congress won't reconvene until afterwards.) This way I can save up all my resources (information and arguements) for the next gun related fight in the legislature.
  18. The buttstock is not inserted all the way in. I just threw what I could on for the photo. The handguard is not screwed in, nor is there any action rod or bolt carrier. Lack of everything below the receiver. Since you have access to those nice tools and I'm planning to keep my forend, I'd recommend making your own handguard, but I'd be happy to sell my buttstock. Come to think of it, I'll PM you on the matter.
  19. Do you mean it won't EJECT or it won't EXTRACT? Eject is to launch the shell out of the gun. Extract is to pull it out of the chamber. If it won't extract and you have a round stuck in the chamber, keep the safety on and get the mag out, always keeping the muzzle in a safe direction. Keep trying to open it with the safety on, then flip the safety off if you get it free. If that does not work, Take the receiver cover and recoil spring out and see if there's anything blocking the bolt carrier from sliding back. Also see if there's anything blocking the bolt from rotating properly. I
  20. M14 mags work better if you're already machining the trunion, due to the mag catch. G3 mags have a lower step down from the feedlips if your goal is NOT to touch the trunion. FAL mags - forget about it, full length feed lips. VEPRs are larger in every dimension. Kreb's produced VEPR 308s converted to M14 mags. They only release Saiga 308s converted for Galil mags. There's a reason. My conversion cuts in the opposite direction - back. It replaces the structural role of the cross post with bi directional bracing by the adaptor. I also want to make the most of your skills, and p
  21. I think the outside of the Saiga receiver is something like 1.3" or 1.35". That would mean the structural ears of the adaptor would stick out 0.2" or so on each side. Remember, though, on the left is the scope rail and trunion bulge, and on the right is the selector. This wouldn't stick out much if at all among those components.
  22. I am keeping the forend, at least for now, but when all is finished I will be selling the buttstock. I doubt that I would recommend using the forend from the 308 on the 12, so I'd suggest doing your own custom forend (give me dimensions and I could help make this determination, and possibly make a custom forend, depending on time and material availability). The buttstock should be totally interchangeable, though it was dang freakin tight in the 308 receiver and might benefit from some sanding if used elsewhere.
  23. Now that really PISSES me off, sorry for my language. They've been promising this thing for months, those Saiga 100s for YEARS and now they just won't be importing them, AND THEY STILL FREAKIN ADVERTISE THEM? No, it doesn't have jack squat to do with the ban, because if it did they'd import them immediately and watch the price go up. That's it, this is the last straw. I'm doing a Saiga 308 to 30-06. Hopefully my idea will work for using a drastically modified BAR mag that feeds in an AR type mag well roughly similar to my G3 mag well for the Saiga 308.
  24. I wouldn't go for that shell holder stock, because there's no tube to feed. Might as well just carry an extra mag. I would go for an ATI or P-gripped Choate stock. If there's an interest in adaptors for the 870 stock, I'll consider making them.
  25. One perk of the Saiga 20. I may offer such a mount for the Saiga, perhaps a one piece mount that includes a barrel extension. I'll be making one for a friend's 20, that'll be the beta version.
