  1. Which is why I question whether a 30-30 bullet will remain stable over the 3 miles of the proposed story in new orleans. It goes subsonic at just over 400 yards. Even .308 150 grain FMJ are said to tumble from unstability before 800 yards, so how would regular 30-30 loads not tumble through 3 miles. Maybe a ballistics program can help answer the velocity of a heavy 30-30 load at 1000 yards,1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles. I just somehow don't think it would make it that far.
  2. What about barreled receivers being on the restriction list? Apparently, the ATF classifies them as neither a pistol nor long gun if it has never been built into a gun. Any reason why xyz company can't import russian barreled receiver incomplete guns and once they get here finish them into pistols if they never were officially a long gun? Just curious.
  3. A short 10 inch barrel is good. That gas block looks like a draco. The SLR 107CR style block has a larger hole recess and open ears over the draco's round sight post guard. Essentially, a short compact version like that with all the 100 series extras would be fantastic. Narrow stem bolt with new style claw extractor, newstyle polyhandguard with heat shield and 100 series handguard retainer, 107CR sight/gas block with 24mm threads, and oh what the heck why not even take it up a level a 200 series hinged rail optics mount. Chrome plate the internals and outside. Then a black quality coating
  4. A friend had just mounted an aimshot on his new 5.56 AR15 and by the end of the range session the glass fell out of the frame onto the floor. I have had enough cheap optics and mounts fall apart on me that I just don't want the headache and buy the ones I know will perform and that are backed by solid customer service in the USA just in case. Aim point for red dots and leupold or night force for long scopes for me.
  5. The exception being a stable slug that will arc hundreds of yards and still remain lethal. The goose or duck shot is not spiral stable as buck wouldn't be. The farthest I had birdshot land on me from cross field hunting was 300 yards and it was dropping straight down. It didn't even sting. This is brings up an excellent alternative to firing a bullet up in the air for a celebration. Use birdshot safely and it will not harm anything.
  6. I think I saw that episode and researched this topic extensively in the past. If a regular 30.06 bullet fires up at 90 degrees to the intersect at the earths surface, the bullet travels to about near 10,000 feet above and then when its velocity slows to a stop the bullet free falls at no faster than its constant terminal velocity back down with absolutely no spiral stabilization. Trying to recall this correctly, the myth busters free falling objects didn't have enough kinetic energy or otherwise to cause significant damage. Shooting at a lower angle than 90 degrees will allow the regular bul
  7. Please explain what covering the receiver refers to?
  8. Its like a huge steel 36mm claw. They shoot a bear with it in a video on that site. cool related videos cool water melon video shot with hexolit 32 http://failo.bg/Watermelon%20vaporized%20by%2012%20gauge%20Hexolit%2032%20slug/video/1GKVaIzj7ts animals shot with hexolit 32 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzPmbBIOhH8 ballistic gel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIuPs70CO3U&feature=related
  9. Shit happens occasionally. If you can get masonry walls and maybe sand or concrete fill it might come in handy. Hurricane katrina put many to the test on the leaving option. If I got too much money tied up and can't chance leaving short of a zombie invasion, then....
  10. For scope mounting as in long tube and not a little red dot, the top mounts like the dog leg and krebbs version are the most stable. As an example of the stability concept I am refering to, Molot AK varients in the past usually had side mount brackets but upgraded the mount type to a top mount for the super veprs for increased stability with larger scopes. Side mounting works well enough within its engineering limits but its not always the best solution. Even Izhmash the maker of the saiga line has been heading toward a top mount design.
  11. I carefully watched someone shoot my sgl21 with the 74 style brake up close and having compared the sub 1 inch movement to the pws fsc47 video which is nearly the same in function as the pws jtac I would wholely agree that 74 style and the jtac version are about nearly the same as far as muzzle rise movement control. For a 14mm threaded barrel the either pws brake is the easier effective option. The nice extra features offered by the fsc47 is suppose to be decent flash reduction and the more efficient gas pressure redivertion away from the shooters ears. I haven't seen a low light picture of
  12. 6 inches of sand will stop virtually any common rifle bullet. Sand bags are the cheapest choice. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot7.htm 6 inches of dense poured concrete wall will do the same. The two videos on the first post show that cinder blocks will work for at least one shot as will a few brick layers.
  13. 12 gauge slug versus cinder block 30.06 versus cinder block
  14. No its just a photo-chop but a Bulgarian-copy of such a pistol like that would be awesome.
  15. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15199221/ Sometimes no matter what you do .... Fish: I looked out and I could see the top of a car. At the head of the trail, he says he saw a man camped by his car with two dogs. Fish: His head picks up, the dogs alert. And I just raised my hand, you know, just to let him know that I’m just a hiker going through here. Larson: So you wave at him? Fish: Yeah. I raised my hand. I just you know, like, “I’m here. I’m a guy—I’m friendly.” So I get to about right in here, and when I look up, here come these dogs running very quickly, fangs showing,
  16. Yessssssssssssss. Just think SLP series. One like in the picture and a Krink style one would cover both types.
  17. I am just asking because they don't exist for sale yet and the Dracos (romanian AKM style) pistols are not on the same level. Am I just hopelessly dreaming here with a "cold day in hell" type wish or am I looking for something before its time but close enough to see on the horizon?
  18. I got a krebbs rail AR15 style peep and love it. It is adjustable for elevation and windage. No sight block spring necessary. Mark Krebbs told me his tortured prototype survived a 6 foot drop onto concrete. This is the "strongest beryl mount" commercially made and it has the most secure front and rear locking points.
  19. Hey KVAR, Is there any chance that SAIGA SGL 7.62x39 bolts or extractors will be available any time in the near future?
  20. Texas is awesome. I can't see the weapon in the video. It might have been a saiga and they are just calling it the universal layman term AK47. The cops and reporters called vang's rifle he used to kill 6 hunters back in 2004 a saiga sks. They never seem to get it right. Some probably were armed and even if he managed to physically keep them out the hard core MS-13 idiots would likely try and burn the home down.
  21. Very interesting. Do any of the 5.45 brakes that you ran 7.62 through have copper smearing on the inside surface of the hole? Well, damn now I want to try this and look for copper smear.
  22. ...............................................................
  23. I can't tell from your picture if your retainer wire somehow came off the hammer pin or the trigger pin on the left internal side. This would be an easy fix by readjusting it. Perhaps a well lit close up picture of yours might show more.
