  1. Its all about relative pressure in the same volume container. SIZE matters and this is why a .223 will not produce the same relative mass related pressure that a larger caliber does. If two equally massed bullets at the same velocity with the same amount of surface area in their expanded state hit the same volume of water there will be relatively similar results. Any of the variables that are changed affects the overall result. 5 gallon bucket blows up simply amazing 12 gauge 600 grain slugs AT 3000 fps Hubel's ultra magnum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEPxyZ0v18k Wa
  2. I have had great results with the shorter sight and maybe I need to exchange it for another short version. Thanks for sharing your experience.
  3. Ok, you got me curious. Did you ever bake on any paint onto this same saiga in an oven and how hot was the temp?
  4. I suspect the grayish color on certain chinese parts is due to using nickle or chrome to make them somewhat stainless but that softens the steel alloy a bit and they might not have been heat treated correctly. It takes a while for arsenals to perfect certain techniques. The russians have been doing these long enough that its closer to a perfect science with the ruskies. The recent south korean ak mags early on were coming apart easily and I think they improved a bit but still not as good as some other well seasoned arsenal like from bulgaria or izhmash. I would be hesitant to trust a new s
  5. Well guys, I guess this is more true for non-chinese AK's like russian and the better euro ones. The chinese ones seem to have a higher incidence of parts breaking and this includes chinese sks. mak 90 bolt someone elses mak90 bolt Case rupture reported on theakforum due to a chinese type 56 barrel pin shearing cause a headspace problem which resulted in a case busting and jamming in the chamber This is the third chinese sks rod I have seen in the past 12 months break By the way, none of these broken pieces are mine. Sometimes they never break
  6. Locktite on the threads fixes the drift part. Recoil flopping the site up would be a major concern but your the first I have read of having this happen.
  7. The site stuck upward when recoil shoved the gun back? Was it on a saiga?
  8. Very easy it took 2 minutes. No mods required. Old site slides out and new site slides in. Watch the 5th video down the list. Its that easy to change the rear site. I highly recommend using a hard wood stick to push out. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-template/Videos-and-Links/Page
  9. I will agree that its rare to have an extractor break. In the rare even that it does, a dremel would probably reshape a 74 extractor nicely to work with 7.62x39.
  10. I think you mean the pin contact tip surface area and not the long pin shaft. I put several boxes of ammo through the rifle with the 5.45 pin and have not pierced a primer yet. If anyone's firing pin should happen to break, your going to have an expensive paperweight laying around waiting for Russia to send spare parts which is probably never going to happen. A 5.45 pin works fine and thats after trying it out with Wolf, Military Classic, Brown Bear, Fiochi, and Double Tap ammo and no primers pierced still. I researched it for a week and could not ever find any info tha
  11. I came up with a stripe alignment idea that I plan on using. The rear aperature works like a ghost ring for faster shooting or with the stripes lined up and touching on front and rear becomes finely tuned for more precise aiming. The front post tip has been narrowed to about 0.015 and at 100 yards appears to barely cover a 3 inch wood beam. If I recall, the original post tip(5 times wider) covered my paper target at 100 yards. The mojo sight with the original post helped me tighten up my groups. Now with the thinner front post, I think its going to help even more. Man I love this sighting d
  12. No, the black box wolf is a boat tailed bullet with about 1/2 inch of actual lead core inside. The bear bullets have a longer lead core than the black box wolf and a flat base. The Military Classic 8m3 bullets also have a flat base and are also longer than wolf black box and have a longer lead core. The MC hp have the widest front jacket opening of any russian hp, jacket ridges(jacket separation cuts) that you can actually feel inside the hollow point with a paper clip, and the lead itself seems softer than the other mix. It's definitely designed to come apart in a water based material.
  13. From the thread at theakforum.com MC hp at 200 yards Brown bear hp at 200 yards through the same wet phone books no expansion
  14. The water volume from jugg 3 seems to quickly disappear into a fine mist. My guess is the vmax bullet vaporized the water faster from the additional energy transfer beyond what the MC hp does which is already rediculously high. You can only transfer so much energy into water before it transforms into fine mist. I see. I have shot jugs with the MC but always from further out, even at the distance I was shooting it was impressive. There is a sticky at theakforum.com that shows some results of the MC through wet phone books at 100 yards and 200 yards. If I recall, even at 200
  15. Yes, they should drop right in and work fine. Kvar is the only place I know that sells them. To remove the firing pin, use your cleaning kit drift punch with a hammer and tap the retainer pin out just enough. The firing pin will fall right out when the retainer is out of the way. By the way, the retainer pin rests along the hollow side of the firing pin head area.
  16. The ak74 surplus firing pin is longer and more narrow then the ak47/akm firing pins. Only the 74 pins work in the saiga 7.62x39 or 5.45. The 5.56 uses a spring loaded firing pin which is different. If this spring loaded 5.56 firing pin is just like my vepr spring loaded one, then a 74 firing pin could be used, but without the spring altogether. The big issue ,however, is that commercial domestic .223 uses softer primers and they might be sensitive to a free floating firing pin in which case the spring loaded design prevents a slam fire or even worse a complete uncontrollable magazine dump a
  17. Last year I tried a surplus AK74 firing pin in my 7.62x39 saiga and vepr and it worked perfect. The 74 firing pin has remained in my saiga since then and I have fired off several boxes of ammo with zero problems. The 5.45 saiga will use the same firing pin obviously. The AK74 extractor will generally fit in either saiga caliber but only readily works perfect for the 5.45. The 7.632x39 needs to have the 74 extractor blade curve contour widened a bit for the slightly different case head diameter. This is the most needed part that will not interchange without the recontour. No vendor is bother
  18. Not too many other hollow points left to test out. The last time I used a Wolf black box and it didn't react very much.
  19. LOL I got into a bad habit of spelling them juggs as in boobs.
  20. Yep, all 4 were punched dead center.

  22. 1.Brown bear hp 2.Military classic hp 3.Double tap Vmax 4.Corbon 150 gr sp The military classic hp definitely reacted more violently than the brown bear hp.
