  1. Well, I finally got to take my Saiga out for a spin. My coworker just got a Ruger Mini 14 and we both ran out to throw some lead downrange. We both have piss poor eyesight and were shooting open sites, so we started with a 50 yard target... First Mag full: I shoot 10 rounds (my factory mag) and put them all in a 2" group; 8" above the black. Mr. Ruger shoots 5 rounds (his factory mag) and put a 2" group right near the center. Second - Fourth mag: I shoot 10 rounds and keep futzing around with the rear site forward and backward.... then I finally realize what one of the tools
  2. Me too...I have a Saiga 223 and that would be a cool thing to have (especially since my buddies have Mini 14's) so if that would be 30-40, then cool beans by me.

    ATI Stock

Well, maybe I'll "cowboy up" eventually... There is little to "screw up" on a AK. You are only modifying new parts to fit -- even if you messed them up, you haven't modified the workings of the original parts or firearm. We aren't talking about gunsmithing here, this is simple stuff. I have little firearm experience, yet I've already replaced the FCG, stock (3 of them), modified the hand guards, removed the FSB and camo'd the rifle IMHO, you aren't going to be happy w/ the saiga skeletonized stock (for US imports) -- it's rather short, and the trigger is still in a bad spot (

    ATI Stock

So the skeletonized stock from gilbertsguns doesn't require moving the trigger group (whatever that is)... I know I'm a puss, guys, but I'm REALLY not wanting to piss with the gun. I mean it's a sub 300 dollar rifle, but I work hard for that money and if I were to muck it up, it would be a loss to me. Anyways, I really appreciate everyone's comments and help. I'm just VERY daunted at the prospect at cutting on my gun and screwing it up. One thing I notice with the factory config, is how front heavy that bastard is... it reminds me of my Mossberg 500... I'm tempted to stuff some c

    ATI Stock

While I like the stock stock (eh?) OK, I REALLY like this one that ATI sells: http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-AK.html Of course, this brings me (newbie) to a few questions that confuse and scare me. One, me taking to my new (even though it is cheap) gun with dremels and drills and files, etc is sort of like building my own car and then taking it on the freeway... not smart. I'm not comfortable/qualified to mill and chop and dice, etc. So: I'm hoping that there is an aftermarket stock that will fit my 223. I mean looking at the butt, it looks like 2 or 3 screws and I can
  6. I live in Georgia, so I don't know if it's a hi-cap or low-cap state.... I'm thinking we're pretty lenient here, no waiting period, one phone call and I had my gun in hand.... CC Permit for $40... it's like the wild west.
  7. Many thanks, that cleared up what I need to do... and, yes, I agree, I didn't buy the gun to shoot 1" groups at 1000 yards... Mainly I will plink, so buying 300 bucks in optics and whatnot for a gun that cost me $267 just don't make sense. Now I am on the hunt for some extra mags... I don't have a warm fuzzy about the plastic magazine that came with it... it seems like that sucker will wear out. I have a buddy who bought a Mini-14 and is quite angry about the price difference I paid this afternoon... so I think I did get a good gun for the money nonethelesss.
  8. Thanks for the response!!! I actually bought mine at Stanley's Pro Shop (I drove up there so I would have to mess with paying the local gun shop a fee for the FFL transfer)... 2 hour drive, the wife got to shop at a few places, made both sides happy.... Yeah, I'll keep the side to weaver in mind, that probably is good since once I buy that "adapter" then I just look for a weaver mountable scope as opposed to some of the "all in one" side mounted scopes... I'm not sure I'm in a hurry to convert my gun yet, but I have to admit the skeleton stock looks cool.... I want a top folding
  9. Yeah, those instructions that came with mine were um.. ominous. Wash hands, face, butt, anyone who you looked at and the roof of the house after you've touched the paper... Then burn the paper near a person who you don't like, but not near a POW, due to it breaking Geneva Convention... I mean ominous... I think I'll wrap my Mom-In-Law's Christmas gift in the stuff....
  10. Howdy... I ran up and bought a Saiga .223 today... The first thing I noticed is that I don't know crap about the side rail on the left side... the guy at the gun store didn't have much info for me... so I am here hoping for some advice... I want to get at least one extra 10 shot clip for now and am not sure what kind of scope I want/need. I'm basically a plinker with a 9mm but have some Ranger Ammo for "unwanted guests" as well as a mossberg pump with #4 and 00 buck. I most often shoot skeet with an O/U. This is a long winded way of saying I know jack squat about scopes and w
