FYI: If you are shooting Izzy it double cycles many firearms. It is hot ammo. Check the firing pin to make sure it is free and loose. That can be a very dangerous problem.

which posp scope to get? 8x42 or 6x42????
Sct1886 replied to TWGLADF's topic in Saiga Weapons - General Discussion
I have had both. My advice is for shorter ranges the 4x or 6x, 0-300yds, especially the 7.62x39mm. The .308 or 0-600yds the 8x with a VARIABLE DIOPTER. The variable diopter is worth the few extra bucks. Best Regards Scott -

HESSE/VULCAN 223 BLEW UP PICS
Sct1886 replied to lsgs's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
The Hesse POS was welded entirely. The crappy pictures were from my cell phone. I had two years of welding, they as stated were cold or failed to penetrate entirely. Yes, there was 6 plug type welds. Scott -
HESSE/VULCAN 223 BLEW UP PICS
Sct1886 replied to lsgs's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Wolf was being fired. If ammo was the problem I would be wearing the trunnion and bbl. As stated above Hesse/Vulcan is crap... Two trunnion plug welds failed to penetrate and the others were cold. The ejector was also soft because it was never properly hardened. I bought this in the early 90s and got it back in horestrading or I would have never bought anything with a Hesse/Vulcan name affixed. You have bigger balls or less brains touching off a .50 with Vulcans name on it... -
Reasonably accurate, clean and reliable. It overall is my favorite. S.A.= ex. good availability. buy as much as you can afford and or store. Port= ex., a little hot. buy, buy , buy Brit=good, loaded soft hard to find Izzy= good loaded hot, most are range pickups Austrian=excellent hard to find and expensive. sometimes boxer primed Australian= good, copper fouls Indian=crap, good if you do not mind your rifle blowing up. Malaysian=good, hard to find

What ave you guys found for a .308 handguard retainer??
Sct1886 replied to Sct1886's topic in Saiga .308
Thats what I am in the middle of doing. The sight and gas block came right off, apparently mine was an early import. It looks as if I will have to fabricate a custom hanguard retainer. An RPK retainer would be the ticket, but are unavailable. I do not like the durability of the Tapco Galil style handguards. A couple of people reported the top section broke. I will wait and watch or build one when time and weather permit. Thanks Scott -
What have you guys found for a .308 handguard retainer?? Std ones do not fit. Thx Scott

I welded mine. I bought an AK74 type pin on brake for the SKS from CDNN for $10. Hogged it out a little. Tack welded, aligned with a section of drill rod to insure aligment and welded away.
