  1. Gopher: What's the furniture (green) and where can I get it? That's the look, I've been looking for except in dark earth or coyote brown. The stock looks like kvar. The handguard almost looks like a painted wooden original that came on the gun.
  2. I'm not able to adjust my front sight. I bought one of those AK sight adjusters and I've tried clamping it down as hard as possible but no joy. I've even completely unscrewed the pusher part, held it up to the sight 'pin' (or whatever it's called) and beat it with a hammer. Of course, made sure the opposite end was free and clear. Zilch. A liberal dosing of WD-40 had no effect either. Am I being a total newb and overlooking something or is this not right? So far, I have not been impressed with the "legendary" Izhmash quality. First the hand guard looks like it was put on crooked
  3. I love my Storm40. It's a very fast-handling rifle and points well. I don't think I'd consider it my primary SHTF weapon as something with more range and penetration would be better. I think my Storm makes an excellent HD weapon though because of its superb handling and less flash, noise and recoil than my other long guns. It's also great because I can use it at the indoor range. And should the gun-grabbers somehow ban all traditional long gun ammo I'd still have my little PCC - although if things got that bad it'd probably be banned too. For those who asked: Flash hider = illegal.

    Who's your daddy?

Looks like you're a couple of weeks ahead of me. I just got my .223 (haven't even shot it yet) and am waiting for my ORF order. Sometimes it's nice having someone beating the path ahead of you. Keep us posted as to how it turns out. Does anyone think the mods to the trunion will affect reliability or structural integrety?
  5. well, the choice in the poll is "side mount with rings" a POSP with integral mount doesnt have rings. Thanks. I didn't know that. Had I, I would have probably made another option. But learning something is the purpose of all this anyway ;-)
  6. Both my Saigas came with an "Acceptance Certificate" part of which is 100 meter, 4 shot, "accuracy of fire" listing. I'm just curious as to what everyone has for theirs and how much variation there might be. Also, are you finding your rifle to be more, less, or about as accurate as listed. Please include caliber, barrel length, date inspected (it's on there as year, month, date) and for giggles the inspector. I guess that's the number in the trapezoid? Mine: .223 16" 7/3/2006 inspector 118 - 126mm. p.s. my certificate says my rifle has been "manufactured, accepted, slush
  7. Two things that really surprised me were how many are still using the factory iron sights and for those that are using scopes how few are using the side-mount that already comes on the Saiga. A lot of people selected "something else" for mounting their scope. What method am I missing?
  8. I'm looking to enhance my new acquisition and would be interested in feedback on what members are using to aim. Thanks for helping.
  9. If you're looking to get a Saiga shotgun and don't have any compelling reason to get a .410, you might find the 20 gauge to be more useful and versatile. It even puts out enough lead to make a decent self-defense gun and has about half the recoil of a 12 gauge.
  10. Stanley's Pro Shop has them for $259 w/ free shipping. I gotta get me one.
  11. Is that '01 as in Jan. 2007? Not sure but I don't think you could mean 2001! How well does that Valmet buffer work and how does it work as it appears to be far outside the ejection port? I don't see how it would keep brass from getting dinged. Inquiring minds want to know - mostly to rig up something on our own
  12. From the little I know so far, I believe they help make a firmer fit for hi-cap mags. Which, if it's the case that Saiga's usually don't have them, it would seem to me to be a big negative when comparing one to say another AK model like a SAR or WASR.
  13. Orlite vs. Bulgy Newbie question here. Does it have to be one or the other? Does each one require modifications to the rifle that preclude using the other? If so, can either of these, or ANY other hi-cap mag, be used in conjuction with factory Saiga mags? Thank you.
  14. What are the advantages of getting an S.223 over a century AK-223? I can get both for about $400. I figure the Saiga + parts for a PG conversion would cost about that. Does the AK use different mags, less expensive mags than the Saiga? And I think I read the Saiga needs a bullet guide if you want to use hi-cap mags? Looking for some guidance and a nudge in the Saiga direction
  15. I had seen that but it says it's a model 100 which I gather is a model I don't want. You say get them while I can. Are you expecting a Saiga shortage? Or just a gun ban?
