  1. The Tacos are awesome for the 5 rounders. I made some mag holders out of kydex for my 10 rounders.
  2. So excited for this part! Thanks for bringing it to market. My MKA is on it's way for new ramp! But I am also on the list for one of your lowers. In addition to fixing the ramp issue, and making the lower more durable, this new lower will add much needed weight to the gun, for those of us who use it for competition. Maybe I can even take my lead weight out of the stock! Not going to be much longer and you will be able to buy an all US made MKA. Pretty much just need uppers and a barrel. A better made barrel would be fantastic! Something a little heavier, better cone, less recoil
  3. Interesting. I will have to measure mine. Wonder if that would cause slugs to be inaccurate? Mine has never been real accurate with any of the slugs I've run.
  4. It also helps to have a side charging handle on the left so that you can pull the bolt back with your left, and clear malfunctions/FTEs with your right, without pulling the gun off your shoulder or rolling it over. Faster for 3 gunners. I find it useful to have both for 3 gun.
  5. I had some issues with my FB hand guard first time out. I didn't get the nut tight enough and that allowed the HG to shift back and forth while shooting, which bound up the rails on the gas system. Once I figured out how to get it tight enough, and keep it from moving, no problems. I love the FB HG, very well built piece of craftsmanship.
  6. Fantastic! I will be calling Nancy ASAP! Can it be made out of heavier material?
  7. To be clear, I do think the Carlsons decreased Recoil the amount I described. This is entirely subjective. I did not test it scientifically, although that would be interesting. By far, the biggest reduction in recoil came from the added weight.
  8. I posted an update to this initial review here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/78354-anyone-shoot-the-mka-1919-in-major-matches-recently/ I ended up putting on a Carlson adjustable choke with comp instead. I really line being able to quickly adjust my choke before each stage, based on that stages design. You could do that with screw ins, but it's a pain. I don't see a lot of competitors screwing chokes in and out. They are usually too busy with other things ie loading mags, resetting the stage, helping others, yaking, etc. I've got that Tromix choke new in the box if you
  9. What would they look like? Can we see the graphic?
  10. This is a definate design flaw. I hope there is a better solution soon. See my review post for my ghetto solution. It looks like crap but it worked the whole competition season, not one problem. Maybe a detent with a ball and spring?
  11. See my post from my review after having shot the MKA at the MGM Iron Man. I use a "Dial a Duck" Aka an adjustable choke, with the comp. I called the company, they promised about 18% reduction in recoil, and I think that was about accurate. A better pad will help quite a bit. I am only using mine for competition, so weight is not an issue. Therefore, I weighted mine down about 2.5 lbs. That eliminated the recoil issues. Now, even heavy loads are fairly comfortable.
  12. What kind of paint did you use? I did a Noveske AR in Cerakote Stoplight Red and gloss black for a guy. It actually turned out awesome.
  13. I put mine in a vise with rubber grips and used a torch to loosen the paint etc.. Made it much easier.
  14. If you couple mags, you might want to consider a shell stop. The recoil of a shotgun can make the shells in the 2nd mag move and possibly even pop out of the mag. Firebird has developed a really high quality machined version that attaches to the top rail. I have seen a really effective DIY design used by Karl Erickson on his .308. He took a piece of shotgun hull and pushed it down the front of the mag to keep the rounds in place. He tied the piece of hull to the rail with a cord so that when he changes mags the shell stop pulls out of the mag. Simple, cheap, effective. Should work on
  15. I've started to wonder if the feed lips in the MKA sometimes cause feed problems. I noticed that this summer I had more and more feed problems, especially when it was hot. Upon closer inspection of the feed process, I noticed how the round slams into the steep feed ramp, which pops the round vertically so that it can be shoved into the chamber. When it's hot, shotgun hulls get soft, and I think slamming into that steep feed ramp sometimes mushrooms the round, causing feed problems. I started keeping my rounds in a cooler during matches and miraculously almost all of my feed problems we
  16. Ok, here goes my review of the MKA 1919. I have posted this on the Brian Enos forum as well. I've shot the MKA in 4 3gun matches this year (including the MGM Iron Man), and have learned something each time. Results have been somewhat hit or miss (no pun intended), and while malfunctions have cost me dearly at times, I maintain my optimism about the potential of this platform. Most people I showed the MKA to, agreed regarding the potential. First, I will discuss my setup - including the mods I have made. 1) Firebird handguard 2) Super ghetto weight on the front operating rod (
  17. I just shot my MKA in the MGM Iron Man. Anyone else do the same or any similar matches? I am going to write up a review but would like others input too if possible.
  18. I would use it in competitive shooting and a single or two point sling, slung in front so I can transition to my pistol. The OEM sling points are for slinging over your shoulder. If you try to use a two point sling, and carry the gun in front, the gun will roll over and be upside down. I'm probably going to end p drilling into the rear stock and mounting a loop for use with hk hooks.
  19. One of the advantages of this platform over others (particularly in competitive shooting) is the ability to use an AR type sling. Most shotgun struggle with this because it's not something they were designed to do. It would be super easy to mount a sling attach on the front, but how about the rear? I can rig one up with para cord like I do with my hunting rifles, but I would love to see a rear stock adapter with a sling attach point on it. Would like the attach point near the rear receiver/beginning of the rear stock. Any other ideas?
  20. I posted a question on the MKA 1919 lower earlier, no responses... Wouldn't the lower (reciever, stock, grip) all be considered ONE part? That is important because the ATF count how many imported parts are left in the gun...not how many you've replaced. There cannot be more than 10 left in the gun. There is a list somewhere of which parts ATF count and which ones they do not. If the ATF would consider the lower one part, then replacing the piston, fire control group, hand guard, and a couple other parts, might do it.
  21. Preparehandbook...now that is a good post. Well played. I am super excited about this platform, but seriously, until the 922 issues are resolved and mags are actually in shooters hands...it is a total gamble. We all have seen promises turn into vaporware. Bless those companies, primarily Tromix and Firebird for jumping in with both feet. Guys like me who have already purchased an MKA are hoping they come through. Until then, I will stand by... But in a about 30 days I will start shotgun loading drills with my FN. Once the season starts, it is highly unlikely most serious 3 gun sho
  22. I would also check with Rick at Center of Mass Holsters. Super guy and big supporter of Shooting Sports. If he doesn't make one, he might be willing to. The Akdal is going to be big in 3 gun and he might appreciate the opportunity to be out front. http://www.comholsters.com/index.php
