  1. Somebody here had a link to a US made gas piston that I think retailed for ten dollars and was the correct length. Anyone remember where that was?
  2. I was wanting to get something less costly than the ACE. I can't afford a two-hundred dollar folder right now with Christmas coming up. Just looking for an el-cheapo US made stock like the one it already has (no pistol grip). The one I have is solid, not the skeleton.
  3. I saw a bunch of the 7.62 x 39 SureFire mags today. They are very nice, solid and lock up perfect, no bullet guide required. Gilberts is also selling them here: http://www.gilbertsguns.com/Clips-Magazine...agazine+US+Made Three US parts but they are forty dollars each. The three dealers I spoke with at the gun show today told me that if you do no other mods like a pistol grip, there is no need for one more American made part. I know people here differ greatly in that opinion. One of the guys was a long time builder of AKs and was pretty much up on the 922r stuff. The whole thing
  4. I plan on getting some Master Molder or Sure Fire mags for my 7.62 x39. I guess that leaves me with one more part to go for 922r. Anyone know where I can get a US made plastic buttstock in the same length that goes right on without cutting or dremeling anything? I could do the handguard I guess but the Tapco thing is a bit $$ and I don't want to go through buying the retainer etc for the other version(s) out there. Thanks.
  5. 1k per rifle with 10 mags per. 500 per pistol and 5 mags per. Thats my minimum. I do try to double that though.
  6. I did a very bad thing the other day. I was refinishing my Saiga and while disposing of all the newspapers, paper towels & junk on my workbench, I mistakenly threw away my safety lever. The trash man has come & gone. So...........I need a new lever. Any one know where I can get one for a Saiga 7.62 x 39 or if the Saiga lever is the same as that on a regular AK?
  7. Is there any way to get the safety lever off without removing the FCG on a stock Saiga? I have the dust cover is off, bolt/piston is removed and hammer is forward. It won't rotate up at all (past the safe position). It hits what I think is called the disconnector assembly. The disconnector will move down ever so slightly but the lever will not clear. It also moves up but then I have even less clearance. Do I have to remove something else before this thing can be rotated up 90 degrees and wiggled out?
  8. soberups, can you clarify on exactly where you took the material off magazine catch on the mag? Was it toward the top of the mag or toward the bottom? Also, about how much, a 64th or 32nd of an inch or so? Thanks.
  9. They said to call back in 3 weeks, that they might get more in.
  10. FYI guys, I just got off the phone with CDNN @ 2:30 PM Central Time - all the 30 round Master Molder mags are gone. Which one of you bought them all?
  11. OK, I'm gonna get the ACE stock, Master Molder mags (4), the Tapco handguard (I know it's expensive) and also change out my floor plate & follower on my two Saiga 10 rounders. I should now have 922r beat to death (I think). I still don't want to mess with the piston. That gives me 6 working mags which I consider enough for now at least. Soberups, if you can post a range report, it would be GREATLY appreciated. One last off-topic question - trigger job. I heard Bill Springfield from another board can work wonders on an AK trigger. All you need to do is send him the trigger gro
  12. Thanks for the link, I don't think I'm up to the piston. Don't have a drill press and I don't want to mess this up. How about just adding a muzzle brake from Dinzag?
  13. OK, just to summarize since I am still new to the site (have mercy please). If I buy the Master Molder Thermolds from CDNN and I buy this ACE stock for $185: http://www.riflestocks.com/SaigaAK.htm then I am good to go and compliant with 922r. Correct? I won't worry about the lack of a "Made in USA" marking on the follower for now. That puts the total conversion at about $185 plus shipping plus however many mags I want to buy. Sounds like a very easy way to get a Russian-made side folder. AND if I want to use my original 10 round mags I can install the $10 AK-74 piston from K-V
  14. If the ATF regards inserting a mag in a weapon as "assembling" or modifying, that is really weak. The rifle still has no evil features even if a high cap mag is inserted. I won't risk this without complying to 922r at this point but the guy I spoke with this about is a VERY respected manufacturer. I won't give up his name because I don't want people taking up his time on the phone, but this guy is an industry leader when it comes to gun smithing & kit building across many different rifle platforms. I would rank him in the top 5 in the country. He was not only sure about this, he
