Boyds gunstocks - good choice?
netpackrat replied to Squeaky's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
The stock I bought from them for my SBRed Ranch Hand was.... adequate. The matching handguard just plain didn't fit, so I have a slight color mismatch with the factory one now. I could understand fitting being required for an unfinished part, but not one sold as being finished. Also, it was made wrongly enough that attempts at fitting were not likely to be successful anyway. -
F#@$% Bank of America

So far as I know, Wells Fargo is still standing firm and resisting calls to boycott the NRA and gun industry. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/apr/9/wells-fargo-resists-push-cut-ties-nra-gun-makers/ “In fact, as I have publicly stated, I do not believe that the American public wants banks to decide which legal products consumers can and cannot buy.” -Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan -

The attribute of an anti-bear gun that is maybe as important as the projectile it launches and how many of them, is that it be sufficiently convenient to carry that you will have it on you when you need it. This is where my guide gun beats nearly every other long gun, plus it throws a 350-400+ grain projectile at a respectable clip, with 4 relatively fast follow up shots in the magazine. It weighs all of about 7 pounds so one has less excuse for setting it down. I bought a back scabbard for it so I can carry it around camp while keeping my hands free for other tasks. That's a little slower -

There was a guy here a few years ago who was charged by a bear while carrying a 5.45 AK... He killed the bear with around a dozen shots, but that's not the same as stopping it. It broke off its attack and traveled about another 100 yards before it expired. It had lots of time left in which to kill the guy had it been so inclined. -

stopping rifle? and fighting rifle? I am not understanding this. I always though my fighting rifle was supposed to stop people . did you mean hunting rifle vs your AK? My guide gun's sole purpose in life is to stop bears from chewing on me and mine. As I do not hunt bears, it therefore is not a hunting rifle. Were I to intentionally hunt bear, I would buy something longer ranged and accept the weight penalty compared to my relatively light Marlin. I think a .50BMG would do the job nicely. -

Yeah, I know the Brennekes are better in every way... $$$ isn't the issue so much as I just haven't gotten around to doing it. But 8+1 of the Remington slugs is nothing to laugh at, either. Usually I carry the guide gun anyway... The main advantage of the S12 is if for some reason I get in a fight against humans... It's not as good as the AK rifle would be, but it should suffice to at least break contact and GTFO. It's basically a compromise between my stopping rifle and a fighting rifle. -

Mainly just the plain Remington 3" green box foster slugs. Been meaning to replace those with Brennekes once I am willing to spend the money to buy enough for function testing. They are not cheap. But 9 regular slugs in a 14" sbs is still nothing to sneeze at. -

Personally I use either a Guide Gun in .450 Marlin or a Saiga 12 SBS, but honestly you'd probably be better off with a .30-06 bolt action (load it with 220 grain soft points) than a x39 AK. -

I won't say not to bring an AK to AK, but it wouldn't be my choice for an anti-bear device. -
U.S.S. Lexington found

The Navy will never let any salvage take place because the ship is considered a war grave. Even if the aircraft in the debris field don't fall under that classification, unless things have changed, no warbird enthusiast or organization will ever attempt to retrieve any because the Navy considers all wrecked navy aircraft (no matter how old or how long abandoned) to still be their property. This has caused problems in the past when former Navy wrecks have been recovered by private persons for restoration and the Navy has stepped in to deprive them of their legitimate salvage rights. AFAIK th -

On another forum I saw it suggested that everybody should go into a Dick's, fill up a shopping cart, and then "change their mind" and walk out leaving the shopping cart wherever. My question (there not being a Dick's in Alaska) was being a sporting goods store, do they have a bait freezer in the fishing section? -

Aero Precision 10" 300 Blackout upper with Bravo company BCG, H2 buffer and a regular carbine spring. I shoot it mostly with subsonic ammunition, and an AAC SDN-6 can installed. Grain and FPS? 220 grain, factory subsonic ammo. Subs suppressed are probably the worst case scenario for crudding up any gun and causing it to not function. Basically I was trolling.

Raising the age to purchase a rifle to 21 is bullshit unless you also raise the age for joining the military (or being drafted), the age at which parents/guardians are no longer responsible for them, the age at which they can be tried as adults for crimes, voting age, etc. It's already bullshit that 18-21 year olds are treated as second class citizens with only some of the rights of adults and all of the responsibilities. Also FYI it is currently legal federally for an 18 year old to own a handgun, and has been for decades... It is just illegal for an FFL dealer to sell it to him. Some -
