  1. My factory mag only holds 5.... so WTF? It looks like every other Saiga factory mag I have seen in pictures. Can I still modify it to take 10 rounds? And if not, what are the other differences between it and the 8 round factory mags?
  2. I'm using the Choate stock with their cheek piece, and it seems to be working fine for me.
  3. If the Saiga rivets were made of hardened steel, they wouldn't be able to drive them. For somebody who claims to have built over a half dozen AKs you seem to have no clue about how solid rivets work, or the shear strength requirements of AK rivets (actually pretty low). A solid rivet is superior to a threaded fastener where thin sections are involved (like, say, an AK receiver), because when driven they will actually expand to fill the hole, such that there will be zero slop in the final fit of the rivet. A threaded fastener cannot do this, and will actually get slightly thinner as it stret
  4. Well, I have a couple of worthless, hacked up G3 mags cluttering my workbench, so it is somebody else's turn...
  5. According to the site, it wasn't designed for or tested with .308 rifles, and also you would have to remove your scope side rail by drilling out the rivets, in order to drill the hole that is required to install the BHO device. A relief would have to be cut on the back of the rail, and then it would have to be reattached. This could be done with machine screws, but it would be best to reinstall it using rivets, as original. This isn't exactly for the faint of heart.
  6. I am using an 8 power POSP scope with the side rail on my converted Saiga. The last 5 shot group I fired at 100 yards (a couple weeks ago) measured 1-17/32" using 180 grain Federal factory ammo. So, the side mount seems to be working for me. The only disappointment was that the point of impact shifted a click or two horizontally when I tried dismounting and remounting the scope. So, I'm just leaving it mounted.
  7. Ignoring feeding, they need to be redesigned for easier insertion. I'm not really interested in trading for another example of the same thing.
  8. It isn't a matter of not having enough force, it is a matter of there being too much slop in the lockup, causing things to not line up, as far as I can tell. My experience with the factory .308 mag and with the other AK rifles I have built tells me that I should expect them to hand cycle correctly. Well, it isn't just the feeding. You have to really force these into the magwell, and I am worried that eventually it will damage the magazine catch. I don't think a replacement mag would be any better in that regard unless he changes the way they are built.
  9. At 600 rounds, you are just getting started. I think it is likely that your hunting buddies are a couple of Fudds. Remember also, that your combat load out from the military presupposes that you will have relatively easy access to resupply.
  10. Yes, mine arrived yesterday, and I will be posting a review shortly.
  11. Got an email yesterday stating that they had shipped.
  12. Well, there is at least one guy who doesn't like Jard over on Gunco.net, but I suspect you knew that: http://www.gunco.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34659
  13. Still waiting. I did get my conversion done on Sunday, so hopefully they will arrive in time to test them at the range this weekend.
  14. Don't forget Waco. Just because the crimes weren't prosecuted doesn't mean they weren't committed. I think hosing down a building with an M60 mounted on a helicopter thus killing women and children is a crime. And again, committed by police officers. Go figure.
  15. Tell that to the people who bought the Akins Accelerator.
  16. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&...=80&t=88703 Personally, I have doubts about the longevity of the locking tabs made up out of JB weld or whatever that was.
  17. I think it should be mentioned, that the only crime ever committed with a legal, registered machine gun was committed by a police officer.
  18. So you are telling us that you think it is just fine that a person has to pay $10,000+ for a gun that should cost $500, tops? Because with "the way it is now" the only people who can afford to own machine guns generally either have the money to burn, or were lucky enough to acquire theirs before the supply was frozen. It is technically legal, but not practical for any but a rare handful.
  19. I'm sure that thing is fun, but it ain't a Gatling.
  20. Got an email back tonight saying that he got my payment, and that my mags are in the current batch, due to ship in about 3 weeks. I don't expect to have my conversion done by then so I can actually use them, but at least they are on the way. If they work, and if I can duplicate the mods, I will make up a few more, otherwise order from him. Nothing against FBMG and what they have been able to accomplish, but I'd rather have a metal mag, so I am really hoping these work out okay.
  21. Questions: 1. Is that the Choate stock? If so, how do you like it? I was planning on using that for my conversion. 2. Is the Saiga .308 magazine catch the same as that of a standard AK? I have a trigger guard rivet jig that I have used for my standard X39 AK builds, so replacing the entire trigger guard with a standard AK unit would probably be just as easy for me as trying to relocate the stock Saiga guard. Have you tried locking a magazine into the well yet (the pictures don't show)?
  22. He finally got back to me, so I guess I have to send him some money and see what he comes up with.
  23. The one at Cope's wasn't the same rail anyway. No quick release for field stripping, and no built-in AR sight.
