  1. Well, I'm the guy who hasn't gotten a response, and that is probably because I haven't followed up, having been out of town for most of the last week. So I think that at this point, wait and see is the best policy. AFAIK, they are a new company and are still getting up to speed. My email probably just got lost in the shuffle. I'll let you know what I find out. As for BRG3's adapter, it was my understanding that a big part of its reason for existence was to be able to use mostly unmodified G3 mags, that could still be used in the original rifle, for compliance with the 1994 magazine ban
  2. I've seen this opinion in several forums, and until somebody can post some actual proof that ATF only measures with the stock extended, I will continue to err on the side of caution, and believe they measure with the stock folded, if the weapon is fireable in that configuration.
  3. At this point, I would settle for getting him to respond at all... I hate wanting to send somebody money in exchange for things they claim to want to sell, and getting ignored. I'll have to drop him another email.
  4. He may not even be aware of this forum. The blog he is using to advertise caters to the preparedness crowd, who have thus far discounted the Saiga for their use, mostly since it isn't practical to *really* stock up on extra hi-cap magazines. Mostly they are into FALs, G-3s, etc. In an earlier letter that was posted to the blog, the guy behind Liberty Mags offered to show how to convert the mags in addition to selling them ready to go. Being able to convert a cheap and plentiful mag will make the Saiga a viable option to many of that site's readers. I think he is removing a sliver
  5. If you hear from him, I'd very much like to know. It has now been a full week since I emailed him, and still no response. JWR indicated in an email to me that the guy was going to be out of town, and planned on sending a mass mail to all who had written, but it's possible that mine was overlooked, since I wrote him prior to his ad going online.
  6. I think calling a reticle of known size a "range finder" is a bit of an exaggeration. Range estimation aid, maybe. And I didn't even get that much of an explanation when I wrote them to ask.
  7. Anyone play with these yet? Anyone heard of this company? Is this even possible? I'm trying to order some. The guy hasn't responded to email yet.
  8. For this application the russian PK-AS with the off set AK mount is the best for the money. The glass is tip top and it has a range finder AND if your, battery fails it still works with the BLACK dot. It does not have a range finder. I bought one to give to my brother for Christmas last year, and was disappointed when it arrived, that there was no range finding function. When I asked the place I bought it (Kalinka) how to work the range finder, they told me there wasn't one, and offered to take it back and refund my money when I threw up the bullshit flag, since the description on th
  9. Since you didn't elaborate on the size of your budget: http://stores.freedomoptics.com/Detail.bok?no=23 A bit more than some of the cheaper units, but well made and you also don't have to buy a separate mount. It just slides onto the side rail of your S308 and you are ready to zero it and go hunting.
  10. Sorry about that. Your website says they won't be available until the middle to end of August. Edit: While I have your attention, my Saiga .308 came with only a 5 round magazine instead of an 8 (it looks like the 8 rounders). Will the spring work in one of your mag bodies, or will I need to get a longer spring?
  11. Good for you, sounds like you got one of the good ones. With the possible exception of their AKs, Century rifles are known for being a bit of a crapshoot. You might get a decent rifle, as you did, or a complete dog, suitable for little other than parts. Nice thing about the Saiga, is you are buying something that is pretty much a known quantity; one is as good as the next. I'm not much of a gambler, so if I am going to spend $450 on a rifle (which is about what I will have into my Saiga after conversion), I would rather buy one that I know is going to work. All of the $2 mags in the world
  12. So, is the point of this just to get more US parts in your FBMG mags?
  13. FBMG's website is now saying middle of September.
  14. I don't understand the appeal of reducing your rifle's sight radius by moving the front sight back to the gas block. It could, of course, be necessary for building a pistol or short barrelled rifle, but on the standard length rifle I don't get it. All you are going to do is make it harder to shoot accurately at range with the iron sights.
  15. No, I didn't need to weld the flash hider on for barrel length, because I used a standard length barrel. I welded the flash hider on, to make it more difficult for anybody to come along later, and claim that my rifle is less than 26" overall by removing the flash hider.
  16. Rifles with an overall length of less than 26" are NFA items, but only if they are too short in a fireable configuration. Taking the buttstock off a standard rifle does not count as being in a fireable configuration, so a standard length AK with a fixed stock is okay. Where it gets sticky, is when you put a folding stock on, especially one that is flush with the rear trunnion when folded, like some side folders (AMD-65 stock for example), and underfolders, if the muzzle device is removed. Since the gun is readily fireable with the stock folded, and no disassembly is required to get to that
  17. Not yelling and screaming. Just trying to correct your misunderstanding, because if incorrect information is allowed to remain posted without challenge, somebody else may come along and get the idea that they don't need to comply with 922r, and possibly get in trouble. Even if that is extremely unlikely. The other thing that you seem to be stuck on, which nobody has really addressed, is how it mentions that machine guns, and rifles with short barrels are not importable. Those sorts of weapons are regulated under the National Firearms Act of 1934, and there is NO NFA weapon that has to c
  18. Texlurch, thanks for posting. It is good that somebody here has an understanding of the regulations. First off, forget about the '94 AWB. It has NOTHING to do with 922r, and never did. It was a totally separate piece of law that was passed in addition to the pre-existing ban on IMPORTED "assault rifles" (aka 922r, 925d, etc.) which was implemented by President George H.W. Bush in 1989 by executive order. The '94 ban came and went, leaving the '89 ban still in place. You will not find a listing of exactly what is or is not an unimportable configuration in the regulation, becaus
  19. I don't believe the Krebs unit is adjustable like the Mojo. I have the Mojo on most of my AKs and like them a lot. Still trying to decide between the standard Mojo and the Microclick model for the S308.
  20. You are confusing two different sets of law. The National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) covers things like machineguns, short barrelled rifles, short barrelled shotguns, supressors, etc. An NFA weapon (say, a short barrelled rifle) specifically does NOT have to comply with 922r or other bans on "ugly" guns. All NFA weapons are registered with the federal government, and must have a $200 tax paid to the ATF when they are created or transferred from one individual to another (with a few exceptions). The term "firearm" with respect to NFA means anything regulated under NFA, but outside of NFA mo
  21. Another question: Are any of you using a small base sizing die? My manual recommends them for autoloading rifles, but I never read about anybody using them online, and wondered if they are really necessary or even beneficial. Seems like it would work the brass harder.
  22. I guarantee you that "UTG Mount" is not going to fit your Saiga. But, I think Dinzag can help you with that, too.
  23. The user "Hotbarrel" on the gunco.net forum can make you just about any gas piston you want, and his prices are quite reasonable. I believe he has made some Saiga pistons in the past.
  24. I visited a local gun shop a while ago, and one of the salespeople showed me his personal Saiga 308. It had the original stock and trigger, but he had smoothed the trigger up to the point where it was actually quite good.
