  1. Oh, I completely agree that .223/5.56 is less effective out of a shorter barrel, due to loss of velocity...BUUUUT...I'm pretty heavily vested in .223 and 5.56 as well as AR15 magazines. I'd hate to have to stock up on new magazines this late in the game. I also prefer .223 because it is a flatter shooting round than 7.62x39... Guess I'll have to order it and find out!
  2. Uhhh, anyone know if AR15 mag adapters will work on these? Thanks!
  3. 7.62x39 will hit man sized target out to 200 yards without a problem. .223 seems to be more accurate, but not much more so in an AK. I've had both - no preference for me.
  4. If you want to stick with 223/5.56, I'd say Saiga over Golani. The Golani's have a bad reputation. A real Galil is another matter completely. If you want to go .308/7.62x51 - hard to go wrong with a FAL or PTR. I'm kinda partial to the FAL.
  5. Wow, that's it. I think it was called Eliminator. You know, hindsight is always 20/20. I almost pass out when I think of the stupid things I did back in the day. We had NO problem loading a 9mm up with just about anything we can get our hands on. Had one buddy loaded up with IMI made tracers - for SD! Geeze.
  6. Aim Surplus... Ordered from them quite a few times. Always on time. Best prices around. Least amount of drama.
  7. Had a spring fly out of my first 1911 - forgot which one, but it was a small one. It was a loooong time ago. Haven't had any springs go airborne on me with Saiga's though...except the recoil spring - it smacked me in the face during routine cleaning...didn't make sure it was properly secured - WHACK! double check that sucker now.
  8. Soft Points. Much better for hunting and SD...HP have, well, disappointed me in the past.
  9. Hi daar Maarten!

  10. Galil mags work just fine. They are tough as nails. I didn't have to trim the mags to work - work needs to be done to the magwell though. Ar mags work fine as well and really cheap at the moment. I would suggest buying about 10 p-mags if you go this route...use cheapo aluminum mags for range and training and keep the p-mags for serious stuff. P-mags are about as reliable as any AK mag I've ever used - quite tough too - but it's still not steel. I've used both methods and I'm comfortable with either...
  11. A bit late to the game... On the Silver Bear...if you can get it at a decent price, grab it. Especially in .223 - stuff runs through my Saiga and AR's like a dream. As for the 7.62x39 - GT, the bears and PRVI are my favorites...if not always the most available or cheapest. I shop almost exclusively at AIM - never heard of GTI? Got a url?
  12. Very nice stock...got any plans to do the hand guard in wood as well? Would really complete the package...
  13. Thanks...wanted to make sure...hacking a surefire mag up didn't sound like a good idea to begin with...
  14. I'm getting ready to head into the woods once season starts. I have some surefire magazines and wanted to know if anyone has had any success in cutting them down to 5 rounds? What's involved? Just want to know what I'm in for before I cut a perfectly good magazine to pieces... Thanks
