  1. The Saiga is probably the best built AK out today. On my first trip out to the range with my x39 (16" barrel), I put 50 rounds into a 4.5" space at 50 yards. At 100 yards with a rest I can shoot a 3" group. This is all with Wolf FMJ, which isn't the most consistant but it definitely goes bang every time.
  2. Wow, you guys think NJ is bad, you should come to CA! 15 rounds would be heavenly. Here, apparently if you have more than ten rounds in a magazine...or a detachable mag combined with a pistol grip, folding stock, thumbhole stock, or any other "evil feature"...this means you are a serial killer, or the next perpetrator of a Hollywood shootout! Saigas would be banned in this state if not for the fact that they named the wrong manufacturer in their list. Things seem to be boding well with the D.C. gun ban being overturned in federal and appeals courts. If the SCOTUS upholds the lower court's r
  3. Hey thanks man, I appreciate it. Seeing that I'm in the People's Republik of Kalifornistan, there is no conversion on the horizon. I was lucky to see the trouble many were having getting the receiver cover off, and took vjor's advice. I pressed in the button and used the large flat tool in the kit under the edge of the cover and it popped off after about 5 seconds of wiggling. My button would not "click in" without an extreme amount of force so I figured prying would do the trick the fastest. The hardest part was getting the gas tube back in and cover on, but I quickly realized you don't have
  4. I just shot my new 7.62x39 Saiga. What a SWEET rifle this is! The sights are pretty much dead on from the factory. I cleaned it out earlier this week and didn't oil it, and it shoots very well and extremely smoothly! Compared to an SKS this thing is an absolute Cadillac. I shot 250 rounds of Wolf FMJ and had no problems. This is the first semi-auto firearm I have owned that had no feeding or ejecting problems. Thanks for the reccomendations of people on this board! I am completely satisfied with my rifle.
  5. that's key.. and vjor got all the offical stuff outta the way so.. so you guys use bore cleaner on everything? I use it on the barrel, bolt and the end of the gas rod, even though I cant get the gas rod spotless. I use rem oil on everything else...is that a mistake? I dont use oil, I have use dry teflon on FCG, but in the same way my guns have been drag true mod and sand some times, plus have seen burn powder on face of bolt and front of receiver as I clean it, well oil on receiver cakes sand that and other crap, if you want the front of the gas piston clean use a w
  6. I got my Saiga 7.62x39 today. It has the 16 inch barrel. This thing looks badass! However, I notice it is covered in and stinks of oil of some kind. I am curious how you folks cleaned your guns up and what you used. Also, where should this gun be oiled after cleaning? I have a Glock that requires only a couple drops but am not sure if the Saiga requires more attention. If you can show me, even better! I am familiar with the field strip through the WASR video posted here, but want to know your methods for cleaning. Thanks for all your help!

  8. Great story man! I too am in the PRK and ordered a Saiga 7.62x39 on Friday. How does the accuracy of your gun compare to your SKS? It sounds like it well exceeds the accuracy of my Yugo.
  9. Alright, thanks for all your help guys! Just wanted to let ya'll know I ordered a Saiga 7.62x39 with the 16" barrel today. I'm stoked!
  10. Hey man, I am down in the South Bay and am ordering my rifle through Lan World Inc. They specialize in bringing in "off-list" guns into CA and have a list of friendly FFLs in this area. I will let you know how it goes after I order tomorrow. I'm going with the 16" 7.62x39.
  11. Hey everybody, first post here. I have been reading these forums and am considering purchasing a Saiga 7.62x39. I am a big fan of this caliber and am sick and tired of messing with SKS's of all countries! I am looking for a new and reliable weapon chambered in this caliber. I have a few questions regarding the Saiga: How is the accuracy of this rifle in 7.62x39? Does the barrel length make much of a difference? Do you prefer 16 or 20 inch? How is the reliability of this rifle? Does it function well when dirty? Stovepipes, FTF's, etc? How "tight" is the rifle? Does it rattle a l
