  1. How long did it take to tune yours? I took mine out today and on the setting that was sent seemed over gassed. I took it down until it wouldn't work then a half turns out until it seemed to fire well. I was still getting a couple of FTF... round nosed up caught on upper edge of chamber. I was thinking it may be mag springs weak in that the bolt is over taking the round before it gets in place. It seemed like it was happening when i rapid fired. double taps no issues. i did get through couple of mags mixed with winchester bulk and double "00" buck. sweet. i am going out again in the AM
  2. http://firearms.atactv.com/ great link with good info on shooting and maintainence of the ak.
  3. dropdeadfred, i tend to agree with DFM56 looking back at the other pics of yours you can see the outline of the structure that appear to be ground off. Bummer!!! i hope that wasn't from someone one on this forum. I assume they didn't disclose this modification to you before you purchased it. I only know of one way of dealing with it if they are not willing to make it right and thats to describe your transaction with them in the appropriate section of the forum. It will not help you but it will help others in the future and affect their ability to trade and sell. send me a Pm on the member
  4. a small gap is no big deal. when i had mine installed here is what i found. 1. if i wrenched it down so there was no gap I found that the top was putting pressure on my gas tube. i realized this two ways. the marks on my gas piston and the fact that my charging handle would not go completely closed on its own. I found that it was better to tighten the screws snug then tighten the rear two first checking to be sure that i had free movement of the charging handle and gas piston. Next i would tighten the front two screws again working the charging handle until i feresistancence. i then
  5. no need to stress...I am sure someone has gone through this. First, is that a galil type HG? what manufacture? pics from side and front while installed on weapon would help.
  6. I think Texas weapon systems looks nice and if the weight is the same it may be a great value, but i want to be able to use the Krebs rear peep as it functions on the stock sight block. I like the idea of being able to use the combat sighing then move to 100,200,300 yards selections. It will at least get you on target with minimal, quick adjustment.
  7. Just Watched the show Tactical Arms with Larry Vickers and his praise for the AK. They discussed some of the improvements that we all already know as well as the weapons reliability and accuracy.
  8. i like using my Krebs rear peep and would like to see something similar to your description. I would prefer something that reproduces the stock sight attachment just brought back to the end of the top cover. simple and robust.
  9. do you think that you finger is hitting the BHO lever while dealing with the recoil of the weapon. I installed a Tromix BHO lever in my S12. The tromix lever has slightly different geometry and stronger spring. After seeing what a difference it makes. I filed my rifle BHO down and angled it back so my finger will not contact the BHO lever unless i want it too. I also filed a notch in the lever and bent the spring leg to assist in keeping it in place.
  10. bill congratulations, I have 21 years myself. man time does fly by. i use to have a ruger mini 14 some 15 years back. I found the main problem were the mags. ruger didn't used to have hi-capacity mags available and the ones that were after market were pricey...i am not sure if they do now you will have to check that out. I found the accuracy less then desirable (thin barrel got hot quick) but it did improve when i fire lapped the barrel. I still found that the groups would spread quickly once it heated up regardless. I really didn't like the choices of collapsible stocks at the time n
  11. HMMMM... like the idea but don't really like doing that to my gun. kind of like milling the receiver for the .223 mag adapter. don't really want to do that. Just personal preference.
  12. dam thanks guys a little pricey but worth a serious look when i can get extra money to toss around. I need more ammo right now but its nice to see one finally came out. Now they just need to make one for the other rifles as well.
  13. I know i am behind the curve on this one. You mean there is an actual LRBHO product available? who makes it? Is it for the S12 only or will it work for all saiga rifles? how much and where can we purchase it?
  14. I don't advocate polishing too much. I did an old G2 trigger and after several thousand rounds it has a hard time staying in semi-auto mode. If you do any polishing i would just use some flitz or jewelers rogue and old tshirt wrapped around your finger to be safe. polish contact surfaces. I have found that shooting after about 500 rounds it gets real nice. Plus are you putting some type of thin film of lube or grease on the contact surfaces? Trigger slap you be all but gone with this trigger. there may be an insignificant amount left but i would wander if it is recoil management? meaning
  15. I know that it might seem intimidating but the video referenced in this post and the tons on you tube you should gain the confidence to do it your self. There really is now major skill too it. if you are unfamiliar with the AK and its parts i would take the time to take it down and put it back together several times. That will begin to build you confidence level and give you experience with dealing with the mainspring and BHO spring install. Just take your time the first time out. Don't worry too much about tuning trigger as the tapco G2 really is a good trigger and once you put seve
  16. well i figured i would run an update on this long journey of mine. I finally settled on the K-var hand guards. I did try some mods to the stock OEM hand the front end was still a bit heavy. Not as heavy as the UTG quad rails but still nose heavy. I realized that the saiga gas tube is heavier than regular AK gas tubes and the OEM hand guard does have metal reinforcements in it which gives it its weight and additional strength. i was interested in the stock OEM hand guard as i felt i wanted the option to mount sling attachment, bi pod and ease of mounting light attachment while lowering weig
  17. None of the BHO work as last round Bolt hold open as far as i know. I did hear that Izmash was looking to add them to their new guns but i haven't seen or hear do them yet. Of course i could be wrong. Stocksuspension: i would check to see if the top of the bolt hold open was damaged in that it is no longer tall enough to hold the bolt back or possible the spring is worn or broken. Function: take the top cover off pull the bolt back depress the bolt hold open tab that sticks out of the bottom of the receiver near trigger. The bolt should be held in place. If it is then it is working.
  18. I would say that it almost never rains here in Arizona, but it rained yesterday and this morning. I'll see what i can do though @sunnybean - yea unfortunately thats one thing people dont do here in AZ is pick up after themselves. A lot of the places to shoot are pretty trashed. Madcow are you in Phoenix and if so is this the place couple of miles past the ben avery shooting range off to the left/ dirt road travel back about 1/4 mile couple of shooitng spots? Sunnybean your avatar sure makes it hard to look at anything else.
  19. I must say that is pretty impressive. Now i am trying to keep myself from spending money i dint' have. an you are not helping. LOL
  20. I wish i would have waited to pick up one of the SF or gen 4 versions-- I have no problem shooting the 40 dead nuts on but the 10 mm i tend to pull to the left (milking the grip i think) so i think a slimmer grip would help. I don't have the extra funds to try to buy a frame SO until then i keep working on my technique. But my i haven't regretted switching to 10 mm. I used to be a died in the wool 45 acp. until i read the ballistics of the 10 and decided that this was one of the best kept versatile caliber secrets. I do reload but with relocating and current work i haven't had the time to
  21. Nothing new on this topic? what about the 9 x 25 as a close second?
  22. i have been getting into 22lr more and more and this gun looks like it would be sweet to have. yes it would be nice to have a high cap 22lr pistol mag but i can't say for sure..... just what i have been able to gleam from brief search there is an inherent problem with double stacking the 22lr. still 30 rounds 22 wmr loads of fun and i hear there is a carbine coming soon. i just have to get the cash together now. Looks like its time to sell some stuff.
  23. How does the knox stock and mav88 compare to the S12 for felt recoil? I figure it would be a nice backup if it doens't beat me to death.
