Auto-loading firearms are illegal if they hold more than 6 cartridges (does not apply to .22 caliber rimfire guns or to auto-loading pistols with barrel less than 8 inches.)"   2. Maine law states that if hunting with a semi-automatic rifle, you are limited to 6 rounds- five in the magazine/clip, and 1 in the chamber. If you can put something in that limits how many you can put in, and it isn't easily removed, you should be fine, but you can check with a local warden/ranger.
