  1. The 7.62x39 is a great shooting gun that has minium recoil. I plan to use the Wolf 154 gr. soft point ammo/bullets and hunt hogs and deer in Texas. The . 308 will work with larger game, bear/elk/etc, but you will have the trade off of more recoil. I own the7.62 rifle and really like it. It has adequate power and hits with authority, ammo is as cheap or cheaper than most caliber, mags are reasonable priced and easy to find. Just a good caliber to own.
  2. hello, I just bought a Saiga 7.62x39 rifle a few weeks ago myself. I got it on a Friday and started converting it Monday, the next week. I think you can spend almost as much on the saiga magazines and a dragunov-style buttstock. Of course, it is your money and time. From my experiences, I recommend that you go ahead and spend the funds towards the conversion. It is not nearly as hard as it looks, especially if you have use of a drill press. Once I got the plate off, "all" the holes were there. You just buy a trigger group(link), a pistol grip(linky ), and a buttstock.(link)The Ak magazines ar
  3. Check out this link, I think this sight/dustcover is pretty much the same as what you are considering. I don't know how well it works, but it will probably look and work as well/or better than a home made rear sight cover:(linky)
  4. I finished my conversion and I am very satified with the Tromix stock! My gun shoots perfectly! Many, Many, Thanks to the help/advice I received and the info on this website! I am one happy camper! Before: After:
  5. I just finished my Saiga conversion two days ago after I got my Tromix folding stock in the mail. The Tromix stock is indeed sturdy. I have not had mine very long, but it is very well made. It cost a little more than the Ace stock(@$15 more and you only pay once!). I am very well pleased with the Tromix stock. It locks up tight, no movement. It fits on my shoulder perfectly and I can also get a good cheek well/placement to see the sights.
  6. Ok, I am new to the Ak/Saiga guns and just started my first conversion. I am beginning to get a definite mark on the receiver finish from moving the safety lever. It is actually wearing away the paint. (1) Is this normal? (2)How can I fix or modify the safety lever to lessen the scratching of the finish?
  7. This is a picture of what I am considering. Anyone have info where these rear peep sights are found?
  8. I am just finishing the conversion and about to go shooting. I could not help noticing the short sight radius of the standard sights. Has someone out there tried a peep sight that is mounted close to the eye? It would probably have to be mounted on the receiver.
  9. Ok, one lingering question! The tang will need to be removed for the new folding stock to be installed. How are you guys cutting the tang off? What is the best way to removed the tang?
  10. Ok, I pulled the trigger and done it! I bought the Tromix stock and hardware/etc. It's costly, but I think the Tromix foldable stock will fit my needs the best. I just had to have it! A special "thanks" to everyone for their timely input and help.
  11. What do you guys thinK of this stock? link to folding stock I like the Tromix and the Ace folding stocks, but their prices are almost as much as the Saiga rifle cost me!
  12. I just finished the Saiga conversion. Everything looks good on my conversion, but I think the gun needs to be finished in a black color similar the the rest of the rifle. How are you guys painting/finishing the bare metal underside of the gun?
  13. I'd suggest a romy folder. They are around $50. They lock open and closed and have a sling eye already attached. Works well with a single point harness. Only downside of them is that you can't lock them closed with a drum installed. Otherwise, very solid piece, not like most plastic ones that just dangle off the end of the gun. Where do I find the Romy folder? I am having a hard time justifing $150 plus for just the folding stock on the Saiga conversion. It appears I may have to save and get the best folder. The Tromix is a very durable looking folding stock. Does anyone who
  14. The stocks on your web page look very durable. Are these stocks foldable?
  15. C'mon now, don't forget the Tapco T6 (coming soon to a Buick near you) stock. . . OK...A picture is better than a thousand words.. I am looking for a folding stock similar to/or like this for my sagia conversion. I have not been able to locate them anywhere!...Can someone direct me to a web site where I can find this folding stock? or this...
  16. I am looking at adding a folding stock to my Saiga 7.62x39 rifle when I make the conversion. What is a good folding stock to use that is not too uncomfortable to shoot and not break the bank? Thanks!
  17. Hello, I am new to the Saiga/Ak style rifles. When looking at stocks to do a conversion, I see there are two types of receivers. What is the difference between the stamped receivers and the milled recievers? What type of receiver does the Saiga 7.62x39 rifles have? Thanks
