  1. In certain situations, police officers wear head/face covering to provide some protection from debris (broken glass, etc.) that may well be encountered in some operations. It is not to look like a "ninja," or the "secret police." They may wear goggles for the same reason, and you don't see ninjas wearing goggles. If you were to pay attention, you would see that firefighters often wear the same type of head/face covering for some of the same reasons (fire protection too). There is no sinister motivation behind it, just a simple factual explanation. Many police departments are obtaining
  2. Personally, I would also get a professionally-modified fire control group tweaked specifically for the S-12.
  3. I have one brand new Kross Hellion Tri-rail handguard for an S-12 SBS. I am selling it because it does not fit my Red Jacket S-12 SBS. It should fit a Tromix S-12 SBS, but I cannot guarantee it. I am asking $60 shipped via USPS Priority Mail. I will accept a personal check from a well-established member of this forum. Otherwise, certified check or money order. Sold pending funds.
  4. +1. If you want something inexpensive but effective, a single shot break action rifle is fine. I have an NEF bull barrel .308 with a nice Choate skeletonized stock and fore end which shoots quite well. Handedness is no issue with such a gun. You can also easily buy additional barrels in other chamberings as well if you like.
  5. First time I've heard some almost complain about having a traditional AK side folder. But on a serious note; I'm assuming the guys who are getting the SLR's are the guys who want that traditional folder, without having to deal with installing one on another AK. From what I've seen/read, that process looks like a pain in the ass. No kidding! The AK-100 series style side folder is probably the most generally desirable AK stock available. If anyone wanted to swap one of those for something else, they could easily find a buyer.
  6. Yes, a fake for sure. The cat's posture is totally unnatural for that context. Also, I have seen that very picture before in some publication...minus the cat.
  7. I have both Legion Saigas converted by Arsenal and regular Saigas which I converted myself. I don't think there is really any difference in terms of performance, but the Legion/Arsenal Saigas are hard for most do-it-yourselfers to beat. That was especially true when I got my SGL 21s on sale for a great price. I guess it really boils down to how mechanically inclined you are, and how much you want to do the conversion work yourself.
  8. In general, U.S. AK magazines are not good. The one exception is the US Palm AK30, which is on a par with the Bulgarian circle 10s. See Bigsal's review on this forum. Some US AK barrels are fine. They are rarely chrome lined, but those made by reputable manufacturers are good. Some US AK muzzle devices are very good. Arsenal makes excellent AK muzzle devices, which are available through K-var. K-var also has excellent US-made AK stocks, handguards, and pistol grips. Tapco and DPH Arms have good muzzle devices as well. Primary Weapon Systems makes excellent muzzle brakes for AKs.
  9. They are excellent flash hiders, but they are not really intended to function as a muzzle brake. How is your rifle threaded? The Bulgarian 4-piece requires 24X1.5mm RH threads, or an adapter. If your rifle is threaded 14X1mm LH, then the Primary Weapon Systems FSC is supposed to be an excellent compensator with some flash suppressing properties.
  10. Resist the temptation to get a GSG "AK". I have one, and it is nothing more than a range toy. The internal design is totally different than a real AK, they are much harder to work on, and they are not nearly durable enough to do any serious training with. A WASR-22, or hopefully soon, a Saiga 22 would be a much better choice. Now if only they will become available here.
  11. The S-12 employs a two-piece firing pin. It is very different from what a standard AK takes. Tromix makes S-12 firing pins. Carolina Shooter's Supply has them. I take it that the hammer spring legs are properly in place.
  12. Apparently they don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. They replied to another query in their section just yesterday, so they have no doubt seen this thread. They are seemingly deliberately ignoring it.
  13. I have both VZ-58s and AKs. I love both designs. However, if I had to choose just one, it would be the AK. Czechpoint is a good source for VZ-58s and parts for them. They offer more variations, and even arrange to pay your FFL the transfer fee for you. North Eastern Arms in Canada makes some good products for VZ-58s, as does Neit Designs (ambi safety, etc.).
  14. Sal, this is the best magazine review I have ever seen! Great job!
  15. Kudos for the concise and rational response. The guy filming was being an ass, and was clearly trying to provoke a confrontation. Being a dick towards cops is still being a dick. There are many regular guys (as opposed to cops, for lack of a better term)out there who would have kicked the guys ass if he had behaved similarly towards them. Seriously, how would you react if some guy started screaming really nasty insults at you? What kind of man yells insults at someone because he thinks he thinks that their hands are tied do to their position? A coward, at best. Somehow, I doubt that our
  16. Police carry Shotguns for riot control so they can use "less-lethal" projectiles (bean-bags, rubber slugs, and tear gas), not so they can do some mall-ninja hollywood style street sweep. Many police still carry shotguns on the rack in their cruiser because that is all they are allowed to carry - when given the option of a rifle, they always take the rifle. All of the world's militarys use the shotgun for door breaching, rebar cutting, less-lethal crowd control, and for CQB to a limited extent. Also on the training issue, its much easier to train someone to use the AK than the shotty.
  17. The easiest sidefolder to install that I know of is the Romanian "wire" sidefolder. It truly is a "drop-in" item. I have one on a WASR-10, and it works quite well. I think that DPH Arms has them.
  18. Is it for an extra cover to switch out or did yours crack? just an extra cover to switch out. Here ya go... $10.00 each! ETA; Nevermind.... I must'a read the post wrong... I guess you have the wrong 20 round drum to be able to easily buy spare parts. Why is it that when Promag drums are mentioned, someone feels like they have to be an ass? A person can't even ask a simple question.
  19. That is awesome! There are quite a few cool hog hunting methods you can use in Texas: at night using thermal imaging sights or night vision devices, from a helicopter, with dogs and a knife (quite a rush), and the one depicted.
  20. Thank you Juggernaut! It's good to know that at least some people appreciate what LEOs do. Good sobering video.
  21. Pretty fast mag changes. Also, it looks like the US Palm AK mag bodies were patterned after those shown in the vid.

This happens on occasion with the retaining plates. If it is only off very slightly, you probably could get away with extending the hole downward. Otherwise, your idea of making the plate sit lower by filing the plate where it engages the trigger pin should work. Either way, remove the minimum material necessary.
  23. +1 Racegal. My divorce was quite amicable overall, unlike the marriage. We agreed on a fair division of the property, filed the papers, went through the process, and that was that. I got all "my" stuff (guns, hunting gear, tools, etc.) and she got all the furniture, TVs, appliances, etc. It worked out OK for me. Trying to work things out in a civil and cooperative manner is best, if you can manage it. I also agree with Bob Ash about the community property thing. All of "my" stuff was, in fact, community property. I was just lucky that she was not after that stuff.
