  1. Well, the other day I had a friend of mine show up requesting that I order him a Mosin 38. He asked if I had any new guns and I decided what the heck, here's this Saiga 308 I just got. He loved it. Asked for a price, I named it, and he took it. I'm ok with selling it, because honestly, I didn't like the length of the rifle. I will be re-ordering one in the 16 inch length for myself now.
  2. I actually find it very interesting that the anti-gunners aren't jumping on this like flies on you know what. I'm guessing they learned their lesson back when they passed the AWB and lost the Congress and Senate as a result. But I will say that republicans, which I typically support, have dropped the ball in the area of mental health. Being married to a mental health therapist, I can tell you, their are a hell of a lot of people out their that need some serious help, but can't afford it, or their insurance (including medicare and medicaide) won't pay for it. This is a country full of broke
  3. I disassembled again late last night and she went back together with much more ease. It could just be a learning curve thing. The internal rails do appear to have mild warps in them, but it does not appear to hinder the cycling of the bolt in any way. I have a feeling that this is probably acceptable and that breaking in the weapon will smooth out these pieces. I will say that right off the bat I hate the trigger. I didn't want to perform a pistol grip conversion with this rifle since I wanted a 308 for hunting, but I really dislike the feel and operation of the trigger. Does anyone make
  4. Got my new 21" 308 in today and immediately disassembled to inspect the internals. I had a hell of a time getting everything to fit back together. It almost seemed like the bolt and the bolt carrier were too big for the receiver. I ended up pinching my fingers between the two several times just trying to get it back together. Suddenly, and by surprise, everything fit. I cycled the bolt several times and it felt pretty tight. So I continued to do so until things started to feel loose. I guess my 223 which has fired probably close to 400 shots has spoiled me, because it's very easy to dis
  5. Approx weight of your kill? About 150lb?
  6. You are shy just one more part if you use the hi cap mags. The Russian stocks don't count. New stocks are easy to change out. Next to that you can try the piston (1 part), or the FCG (2 or 3). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Happy Turkey Day!
  7. Nice! I see you used a 16" Blondie to get the job done. No scope, so is it safe to assume your shot was under 100 yards?
  8. I got mine today. Both fit perfectly on my rifle. I cycled snap-cap rounds repeatedly since I couldn't go to the range, and had zero failures in operation. I will admit I was a bit surprised to see the bolt held open after the last round ejected. I was even more surprised when it suddenly slammed shut after I removed the mag. Oh well, I also noticed that each magazine came with a five year warranty, so I'd say don't worry so much, because if it breaks, you will get another one for free. Of course if it breaks when the SHTF, well then that's a different story. I'll let you guys know how
  9. Vepr545 where did you get that handguard and what is the model #. I want to order one like that for my 16" S223.
  10. I've got a pair of 30 rounders coming my way. Should be here Monday. The only problem is I won't be able to test until next Saturday.
  11. Thanks for that vote of confidence Saigaguy! I'm really looking forward to getting my 308. My biggest debate has been over the barrel length, but I've decided that for hunting and long range shooting, it's better to have the long barrel. I like the idea of a 16" carbine, but to me the 308 seems like too much round for this barrel. I want to be able to take deer down with confidence out to about 200 yards in brush and if necessary, with open sights. Those extra six inches really make a difference. Not only that, I'm almost done prepping my 16" 223 into my SHTF home defense weapon. I figu
  12. Okay, I had a chance to switch out stocks yesterday and made it to the range today. She shot pretty well, but man if it wasn't windy. I had trouble holding myself steady during my shots. I finally decided that it would be best to shoot from a kneeling position and that brought my groups back into what I consider an acceptable level. The switch was pretty simple, but the original stock was on pretty tight. Also, I was a bit disappointed that the new stock was not pre-drilled, but hey, it looks pretty wicked. A friend of mine that helped with the switch out looked at the rifle and commente
  13. Will be switching out the original later this evening. I've got a honey-do to do first.
  14. That scope is sweet! What do those average $?
  15. Guys, one quick question. After reading many of the postings on this forum, it appears that many of you are of the opinion that the 16" 308 is better than the 22". By better I mean, just as accurate but much lighter and easier to handle. I already have my 223 in a 16" and really want an accurate 308 semi at ranges out to and beyond 300 yards. I believe that the 22" is best suited for that purpose since the extra 6" should add to both velocity and stability. Has anyone here shot both 308 models at different ranges (from say 25 to 300 yards) and determined them to be equal in performance?
  16. I also own both and AR and my Saiga and greatly prefer my Saiga for shots under 100 yards. I have never had a single failure with my Saiga, but my AR however has given me headaches. I find my Saiga far superior to my AR in every aspect. I am slowly converting it into my SHTF and home defense rifle.
  17. Thanks for the info and the Avatar comment. I love Russian jet fighters. BTW, I placed a 22" 308 on layaway today. Come, December 18th or so, that baby comes home. I told my wife I really wanted an M14, but I just can't see myself spending over $1300 on any rifle. I have greatly enjoyed my 16" Saiga 223, and I figure that the 308 should be just as much fun, but from a littler further distance.
  18. Anyone recommend a distributor for a sporter Saiga 308 in 20"?
  19. I got me a tri-rail mount for my S-223 and am looking to get me a scope for shots out to 300 yards. I also plan to add a light and laser for quick, close targeting if necessary (Zombies at night). The nice thing about the tri-rail is that my iron sights are still viewable/usable, which is what I prefer out to 100 yards. I was thinking a cheap WalMart BSA scope would work well. Suggestions?
  20. I'm sure he would stink. I was watching him when he was shooting and I know I saw him closing his eyes between shots, jerking and anticipating the recoil.
  21. Finally saw the video. Those Liberians have really made a mess of their country.
  22. Man, and you wonder why they can't hit a thing.
