  1. I think he wants something to "blow the piss outta something" with :) He should get some of those ten pound exploding targets. Hey, we should all email that gatling gun company and have them make a rig for the saiga 12. Now THAT would be something. I guess having my own range helps with MY need for my sport, dont have to worry much about range masters, as I am the one responsible for whoever is shooting up there. I can totally understand the "blowing the piss outta something" mentality, just as much as I can understand the utility need for weapons like this. I'll tell you though...how many idiots do you think are out there with a semiauto that have illegally converted them to fully automatic weapons? From my "sessions" I can honestly say that almost any semiautomatic weapon has plenty of firepower, and 8 rounds is MORE than enough in 12 gauge. The utility use of a lot of firearms available out there, regardless of what ones they might be is fairly limited in my opinion. And about the striker? I have shot one before they were ruled DD's without a stock, and seeing how I own not a single firearm that only has a pistol grip and no stock....what do you think my opinion of it was? That buttstock remember is also a club in close quarters. How do you hit someone with a pistol grip? Is that even possible? Basically, I can see why some laws ARE in place, and even though I may not like them much, I do see the logic. I cant see myself actually needing something like that for fun or hunting or home defense myself. But they are cool to look at for a grand :/ What I would like to see is a special law making .22LR full autos legal for ordinary citizens in areas where it is legal to discharge a centerfire rifle. THOSE are fun as hell to shoot. And cheap. And you can "blow the piss outta something" real good with them. AND AND AND LOL wheres my senator dammit. Oh wait its Hillary. Nevermind.

By the way, where did people get the idea an ak-47 was good for home defense? where do these people live? in concrete houses on 2,000 acres?

  2. He is right you know.... I dont know how many rounds Ive rapid fired out of the AK-type action clip after clip while plinking or whatever Im screwing around with and I dont ever recall being burned once by the gas port cylinder. The barrel, yeh, but the gas cyl? Nah.. I wouldnt worry about it. Remember that there is gas (even though its hot gas) flowing through that cylinder each time you cycle the action on the AK type because of the piston, and its also pulling air in behind it from the air around you. A barrel's heat is two things: the fire from the powder or whats left of it at any point, and bullet friction on the metal. you have no fire in the cyl, and i HOPE there isnt much if any friction on that gas rod. Makes sense if you think about it. The black tape you might want to replace tho with something more hi temperature. Id find something else for tactical lights if you have to use that tape. Maybe an extra foreend and epoxy? a little dremel action to sit it in there a little better?

  3. Working with milspec connectors ive also run into problems when long threads like the ones on choke tubes and scope just dont want to go together. Now I see what you said up there, but if you ever have that problem and you know its not a cross-thred problem, like my older scopes Ive had the same problem on the focus adjustment... you just wipe the threads as clean as you can, then with a q-tip put 1/2 a drop of some WD-40 on the thread. makes a huge difference if the thing is stiff going in a NORMAL thread. Cross threaded I would imagine it might work as well, but its always better to have it threaded correctly anyway :) You can never inspect a new weapon too much the first day....

one other thing: ever been told to imagine your left index finger points to your target? you dont actually point your finger, but you replace your index finger in your mind with the barrel and point to your targets. try it for a few mags if you find yourself missing once in a while.

one small piece of advice for your competition shooting- i find for myself to knock everything else out of my head and just focus on what i am doing. you are probably losing seconds thinking about the other guy i would bet. ive been shooting since i was 5, and i have found that the more i focus on putting my rounds on target and just keeping the situation at hand in the back of my mind, i fly. controlling the recoil enough to stay on multiple targets is really the one thing you should be thinking about. and as for real life situations, if you dont secure the situation with one magazine out of the saiga, you are probably dead and wont need to draw your sidearm anyway...8 3" 12ers is a lot of firepower.

NEVER OVERLOAD YOUR MAGS! you will overstress the spring and cause malfunctions. if ANYthing load one less, like the 30 round M16 mags will jam sometimes if you load them to full cap. in a fight, that means you are dead. ask the marines from vietnam about that one.

  6. dont they teach you guys to reload when you can while theres still one in the chamber? tactical reload? or is that considered unsafe now because of some idiot that didnt know his gun's trigger pull was too light? i just cant see taking that big boy out to actually shoot back with and not have the cool enough to know you didnt shoot more than 5 or 6 outta that 8 clip. to hell with that last one or two...id much rather change my mag with one in the chamber and not have to put the damn thing down or even unshoulder it to cock it.

  7. the amount of explosives needed to detonate plutonium exceeds the amount legally obtainable by ordinary citizens, plus plutonium or enriched urainum is property of such and such place, and is not sellable by federal law. im SURE its ruleable as a "destructive device" and you have to file for paperwork on it. think your sheriff will ok that one? i doubt it. try making a breeder reactor in your backyard and see what uncle sam says about that. i do believe all that falls under some strange thing they call, what was it again? oh yeh, "National Security" or whatever that joke is. what i dont like is that i cant posess freaking rounds for my armalite's grenade launcher or its considered intent something or other, and is also a destructive device. but if that keeps some idiot from collecting thermonuclear weapons, so be it.

  8. Your best home defense load is a combination of shells, in my experience. Load yourself a 3" shell or two with rocksalt. Have that in the chamber followed by your 00 buck. This helps show the police if you DO have to shoot an intruder that you didnt act in anything but self-defense, and hence you shouldnt have to go to the clink. I have had to shoot someone with rocksalt one time, and that was all they needed to get out of there. Also, whats even better than 3" rocksalt for a non-lethal deterrant is a pump-action 12 gauge. A crook hears THAT at night and thats not a good sound....usually sends them running. Plus you can pepper his ass ANYWAY with rocksalt on his way out the door : ) Just dont load the rocksalt too heavy with powder, because the wad wont separate from the rocksalt in close quarters and will still kill the poor bastard. Remember the saiga IS an autoloader, so you can use a round like this effectively because you dont have but 1/10th a second of time to wait to fire again. One of you reloaders out there should experiment with the powder charge and see what the minimal powder load is to cycle the action on the Saiga 12 with rocksalt. Its a smoothebore anyhow, so it shouldnt damage the barrel at all.
