  1. This study certainly appears to be the successor to http://www.atf.gov/firearms/guides/importation-verification/documents/report-on-importability-of-semi-automatic-rifles.pdf I think the "detachable (box or drum) magazine" acceptance is a problem in and of itself because it -can- accept those magazines even if they aren't imported with those items. Even if you believe they will green light the Saiga for importation in its current configuration they do say that these 'features' are not an exhaustive list and they can decide others as they see fit. That's why we should level our obje
  2. I heard the same thing about being able to carry a gun in a National Park back in 2004. There's a process to this that has to be followed. Anyone here who has been in the Armed Forces knows the .gov loves paperwork, processes and bureaucracy. If you don't lodge the comments administratively, you don't preserve the ability to go to court and you can't generate momentum legislatively as easily. Guess what? You can now carry a gun in almost all National Parks and wildlife refuges. Think they already made up their mind? Of course they have, read their study, it tells you right there.
  3. If you are serious about defeating this effort, here is how you can help. http://www.usrkba.org/commenting-on-the-atf-shotgun-study ATF is soliciting comments on their study to restrict importation of shotguns with certain features. Comments will be accepted from 01/31/2011 - 05/01/2011 and may be emailed to: shotgunstudy@atf.gov, or faxed to (202) 648-9601. All comments must include a name and mailing address. We encourage all firearms owners to comment on this study. We suggest the following to use as a starting point. Please feel free to expand upon & socialize these su
  4. I should have been a little more forthcoming, apologies... Public comment means a 'review' period in the federal register; something like we just went through with ATF's so called emergency request for information on multiple rifle sales (so they can start a registry). We OWNED them during the 2.5 weeks they gave us for comments, so we will need to come through on this as well. There will be updates on gunleaders.com with suggested comments, where to go to comment, etc. We'll have several options, including snail mail, fax, call & submission via www.regulations.gov. The latter is
  5. I don't think that's going to bite the Saiga community so much as the ability to accept a detachable box magazine, and by extension, a drum. The Saiga and Saiga 12 drums are pictured in the study. Be ready for the public comment period... that's our best shot.
  6. In case anyone didn't catch it, the "study" will be subject to public comment. http://www.gunleaders.com/blog/2011/01/27/new-atf-study-on-the-importability-of-certain-shotguns/
  7. Thanks for the link! I'd be willing to bet that I caused this very symptom during the installation of the FCG. I'll give the fix a try.
  8. I had an odd malfunction at the range last trip. While firing, apparently the right "leg" of the spring which holds tension on the trigger jumped over into the middle of the (tapco fcg) trigger assy. The gun had a recent Tapco FCG install and this was the 'shakedown' trip to the range. This was the only malf. and it did not repeat. Firing all slugs, Wolf & Rem. Slugger. I compared the assembled gun to pictures available here and with my AKS, I was not able to appreciate a significant difference other than the BHO assy. Also - H/T to Dinzag for giving me a go/no-go w/ pictures -
  9. Great comments to add to the Petitioner requested regulation language above. http://www.bighammer.net/Frame-24-timeline...4.html#05/01/08
  10. they sell a T-shirt my wife bought the other day around here that says: PADDLE FASTER - I HEAR BANJO MUSIC ! DO my eyes deceive me? IS there actually in existence one of the SWORN ENEMY of gun owners here, an NPS ranger? ? ? ? ? ? ? AND with a cool name like David? Couldn't be. I must be imagining things. Paddle faster... :-) Thanks guys. Please help spread the word. EVERY comment counts. Spouses, friends, family who owe you a favor, range buddies who mooched a few rounds off you last time. They all count, and should be willing to do you a 'solid'.
  11. I'm new to the Saiga following and my S12, bought in November hasn't been stellar. However, using infor here on the forum I've greatly improved the guns feel, function and aesthetics. In fact, my first 2 range sessions pretty well sucked. However, I've made steady improvements since. These have all been very easy changes, mods & upgrades. The most frustrating part has been changing only one thing at a time between range sessions. If my current rate of progress is sustained, within 2 range sessions I should have flawless performance. Only one failure last session, a round did not ful
  12. Well... just to lend some balance http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=21326 My Saiga's been kind of a loser right out of the box. I'm not convinced yet they're not malfucntions contributed to or caused by the magazines (both) yet, and I'm trying to limit changes between range sessions to narrow things down. Malfs are way higher with the 10 rounder.
  13. Thanks for the tip. I'll remove the spring from the mag and see if there's a smooth flow. It's tough to say with the mag under spring tension. FWIW, it loads smoothly enough. Y'know... I need more mags anyway. Got 20 for the Mac 10, 2 for the Saiga. There's something not right about that equation
