  1. Will be getting a nice baby S-20 next week! Already sent the dough to MAA, along with a Tromix FCG! Now I need to plan out the mods. Do I copy my S-12, or go with a new motif?
  2. I would test the plastic. Sometimes epoxy doesn't like to stick to certain plastic. I'd try to find some JB Weld made for plastic, or even some putty 2-part epoxy instead of the liquid stuff to fill the hole.
  3. Looking to maybe buy a 20 to keep my 12 company. Any places with them in stock? Some quick searches seem to show these are as rare as S-12's these days (and almost as expensive as my 8-mo old S-12!)
  4. bwahaha! , seriously! Nope, don't think I've ever seen one. Gotta pay to play.
  5. They ALWAYS show it like this. You need to call, then they will say no stock. That's how it went for me last December.
  6. Will these fit an S-20 by chance? With or without mods to the receiver?
  7. Don't shoot my shotty much, but it seems to go from fun to torture over the course of 10-20 rds. Is this normal, or being a wuss? Shot 20 yesterday and the shoulder is sore and bruised up nicely! I've even got a rubber pad on my Tapco collapsible. Possibly technique? Do you use the pistol grip more and not rely on the shoulder? This was firing full power 2.75" 1600 FPS slugs and 00 buck. I've tried the low recoil stuff and seems lighter and easier to handle, but I'd like to get used to full loads too. On the good side, not one misfeed or FTF, FTE, which I had last session. Didn't d
  8. Seems pretty cut and dried that it will. UNLESS, as I pointed out in my case with the Tromix DIY trigger guard. I had to notch the stock tang slightly to clear the rear bolt head. Nothing major, but at first I couldn't figure out why my stock wouldn't seat all the way. With the combined stock/grip, then shouldn't be a problem as I assume it was designed for not having to move the trigger group and should fit with no interferences.
  9. No it doesn't fit! Mine fit nice and snug. Note if you use the Tromix DIY trigger guard, I had to grind a little off the stock tang to allow it to slide around the rear bolt head on the Tromix part.
  10. Sleeve, what sleeve!? Oh crap, now I need to check my conversion! I thought I needed to just grind some more off the front where it passes by the receiver. Mine was hanging up some on reset too.
  11. $8? Almost not worth the effort, except to help a fellow Saiga'er out! Burn more gas than that getting to the P.O. OK, not really.
  12. Is it worth it to sell the old S-12 plastic furniture, or just toss? They don't seem to be going for too much on gunbroker.
  13. Read some of my tribulations in the tech section. I just did my build and had some of the similar concerns. Also look in the FAQ new users section and find Cobra's DIY retaining spring thread (Sheperds Crook). You can make one out of the old long spring you don't need anymore. The pistol grip SHOULD overlap the trigger guard some! This will give it some more lateral stability. Don't file the grip! Note the DIY Crook goes on slightly different, but Cobra has photos that show it well. The spring starts UNDER the hammer pin, goes over the trigger pin and it pushed down to get the safety a
  14. Looks good, but really only about $700-800 in parts including the gun. OK maybe another $100 with today's S12 prices. You didn't get the satisfaction (i.e. frustration) of building it yourself! Just OK price I would think if they do quality work. Don't care for the weird charge handle myself.
  15. Sorry, should have PM'd you on the spring. I ended up gaging the length based on your DIY thread pictures against the receiver. I came up with something like 20mm short side and 75-77mm long side. Thanks! Any thoughts on how to fix the foregrip? I assume I need to trim some on the inside as I had to force it on, hence the splay at the top. Or just buy a Tromix!
  16. You need to make some kind of spring load brake that goes from this version to a full Shark! Or maybe a simple twist down to expose the Shark teeth! Easier than giving the "fix bayonets!" command.
  17. After 3+ months of my gun setting in pieces, finally got the conversion done. Full of Tapco crap right now. Had to grind everything to make it fit, hammer, trigger, stock, and foregrip! The foregrip still splays out at the front. May get rid of the junk and get all Tromix stuff next. If you're going to do it, do it right! Kudos to the Tromix DIY trigger guard. Easiest mod I did on the gun. Have to see if everything holds together once I start firing now! Not sure I got the Sheperd's on the hammer pin all the way. My moly resin finish seems soft since I only did the 230 or so cure t
  18. Thanks, the spring off method worked, but I proceeded to bust my plate getting it in. Going with the Shepherds crook now.
  19. The screws provided are "just" long enough it seems to prevent them from poking out the bottom. Not a whole lot of threads engaged. I've never seen one of those Ace things, but if it's too thick, you may need a longer screw.
  20. Thanks, good to know! I've already got Cobra getting me the dimensions on his DIY Shepard's Crook jig. I was soooo close with the first retaining plate. That's why it was so frustrating for the ensuing 2-hrs of fiddling. It was all going together pretty smooth at first. Your DIY trigger went on without a hitch.
  21. I want to know because I want to draw and quarter him!! Actually the combo of the spring and the retainer plate/clips. I've had the BHO spring and pin in and out about 20 times trying to get either a retaining plate on or the damn e-clips. First retaining plate went in fine, then the selector wouldn't seat. The damn plate was slightly off center of the hole and wouldn't align. Tried to force it and the plate broke at the front pin! Had to take it all apart including the hammer to get the plate remnants out. Then the second plate wouldn't seat on the rear pin. Kept popping out the pi
  22. Is there any way to use both a BHO and the pin retaining plate? The selector has to go in before the BHO, but the selector also has to go through the retainer plate. No way to pull the selector back out enough for the plate as it hits the BHO. Do you put the plate in with the selector, then somehow wedge it into place around the other pins?
  23. I've had worse on the intarweb! Things are always easy once you do them! Remember I ripped this apart 3-4 mos ago, and it's my first re-build. Just think if someone gave you a box of parts for a gun you've never seen and told you to put it together (and there happened to be spare parts as above!)
  24. Don't see this part on the diagram, or can't make it out. What is it and where does it go?
