  1. Wow, I like guns and all, but you guys scare me a little bit! I would never want to shoot another human being, but that's just me. It seems to me that if you just kept 2 or 3 rounds in the mag that they wouldn't compress too much and crush the shells or fatigue the spring. If you need more than 2 or 3 shots with a shottie , well, then, you're a bad shot.
  2. I don't know about where you guys are, but here in NY your hunting rifle has to carry no more than 5 rounds in the mag.I have a couple of 5 round mags for my Saiga 7.62x39, but my SKSs take 10 round strips.Does anyone know if/where I can get 5 round mags for my Yugo SKSs?They're more accurate than my Saiga(without the scope on it), and I'm sure other hunters wouldn't want to be near me when they see my bayonette equipped rifle!
  3. I got my Mosin Nagants from Cole's Distributing.A 1940 M91/30 for $59 and a 1945 M44 for $69.Both rifles are in like new condition with all matching numbers.Hell, the 91/30 was even pre-cleaned and cosmoline free!!The 91/30 is the most accurate rifle I have.
  4. That's wierd.I got my mount from CDNN, the made in Belarus wonder, and it has performed flawlessly for me.I can take it off and on as much as I want and it always retains zero.
  5. if I may make one point...WHO CARES!!!???!!! Can't we all just get along?Where's the love?
  6. Is that one of those chinese type Ds? That looks pretty nice with the thumbhole stock.
  7. It's fun to hang them with a rope.Once you hit it you have a moving target.
  8. It's the only length they had, and I had to get one.
  9. I got a side rail mount from CDNN as well.It works perfectly and only costs $39.They have them with rings or with weaver mount.I got the weaver mount style and it sits a little high, but it works very well and you can take it off and on without having to sight it in again.I think the mounts with the rings sit a little lower.
  10. OUCH!Yeah , I think so, but then again I'm pretty cheap! If I was going to spend $600, I'd save up another $100 and get me one of those Romanian Dragunov type sniper rifles. But that's just me.
  11. There is some legal mumbo jumbo involved in putting a high cap mag on a stock Saiga.I might recommend getting one and shooting it as it is from the factory. My Saiga is in stock configuration, with the gay hunting stock, and I absolutely love it.I put a scope and a totally unnecessairy bipod on mine and I think it is a damn fine rifle for the $$ invested. As far as finding a gunsmith that will do a conversion for you, you'd have to ask around your area.I know the gunsmith that does work for my local dealer wouldn't be too keen on working on one of those " evil black assault weapons".But there

  13. Also, I can't remember if they come with a scope rail.I know all of the Saigas do.
  14. I'm not positive, but I think the VEPRs are American made. They are high quality with the milled reciever and all, but DAMN, have you looked at the prices?!?
  15. Ummm.., this topic has come up like six zillion times. If you look around the forum you'll see that there are no high cap Siaga mags, but you can legally convert the rifle to accept them.Just look around, you'll most likely find the answeres to all of your Saiga questions.
  16. 30 round AK mags can be had for more like $10-$20.I think you could have a Saiga conversion done for less than the cost of an AK, generally speaking. The thing to keep in mind is that the Saigas are purebread Russian, made in the same factory as the original AK47s.Sure, you could get a Romanian made AK for @ $300, but the coolness factor just isn't there compared to the Russian AKs.Most dealers sell non Russian AKs for downright silly prices. My local dealer had a Romak for $429.00 and I couldn't believe it but somebody actually bought the damn thing!!
  17. Has anyone else ever noticed that Zappa fans are usually REALLY friggin smart people?
  18. The 30 round mags will fit the saiga but will not load. The regular AKs have a feed ramp that guides the bullet into the chamber that the Saigas lack.If you hold your AK mag and your Saiga mag together and look at the top front you will see that the Saiga Mag is higher to guide the round into the chamber.Alot of guys build a feed ramp that fits into the rifle(like the AKs) to be able to use high capacity mags. The other thing you CAN do that is ILLEGAL is to build up a feed ramp on the AK mag with a weld.It works flawlessly but is illegal. You aren't supposed to alter the mags. I'm not sure ab
  19. How does the Saiga 308 compare to the H&K 91,G3 or Cetme.I was considering picking up a G3 type rifle, but if the Saiga is as good as those types of rifles, I'd go with the Saiga. They're soo simple and reliable!Anybody here have both or shot both?
  20. Wow, that was VERY informative! Thanks for all the great replies.I just got a couple of Mosin Nagants this week.A 1940 M91/30 & a 1945 M44.I got them from Cole's Distributing and had them ship me 100 rounds of ammo with them. It's new production, Yugoslavain 180 gr soft piont. It's snowing right now, but it's supposed to be nice this Sunday, so I'm hoping to try all the rifles I got over the winter season.Being that these rifles are so old and in mint condition, I wanted to stay away from corrosive mil surplus ammo.I think I payed $29 for 100 rounds of this Yugo stuff.I didn't shop around so
  21. I don't know much about them.It seems like a very close match.I've been thinking about getting a Romanian PSL, or SSG 97, or Romak III, whatever you want to call them. They make them in 308 and 7.62x54R.The 308 is more expensive.Which do you think is better??
  22. I wonder what made them decide to name the Saigas after such a silly looking animal. They look like they got punched in the face and are all swelled up.
  23. Thanks for the input.I've got it pretty well cleaned up now.I used really HOT soapy water and scrubbed it down with a cloth. Then I put the wood on a heater to dry the water out and sweat out some more of the cosmoline.I got most all of it off, it's just a little tacky now.I think once spring gets here, I'll set it out in the sun on a warm day to try to sweat the rest out.The metal and bore on the M44 is as nice as the M91/30.I'm very pleased and can't wait to shoot them.I rent from people that have a 300 acre farm, so I'm going to make a shooting range somewhere on the hill this summer.I'm cur
