Just for clarification... are you filing the part that moves ( the latch with the spring pushing on it) or are you filing the part of the receiver that the mag is wedged against?

I recently bought 3 30 rd Promag plastic waffle mags for my Saiga 7.62x39 that I am about to convert. After doing some reading I'm pretty sure what I'll need to do before they'll seat correctly. Is this the part that needs to be filed down (Red arrow)? Is it easier to use a Dremel and do it in place or is it better to remove the latch, file it, then re-install it? I don't have my Saiga sitting in front of me, but I seem to recall it being held in place by some sort of riveted pin. In that case it would probably be easier just to file it in place. I e-mailed Tapco and they don't make the Saiga specific handguard in the "DARK EARTH" color. So now I'm forced to buy the $79 bolt on retainer. I wonder why Tapco can't just take that little retaining ring off of one of the other handguards and put it on the color I want. Also, I read through the cross-conn saiga conversion pages and found something confusing on page 7 almost at the bottom of the page (http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/Step_7.htm) In the part about the blinding post and screw, I see that one of the posts has a spring run through it. Thanks so much for your help! I think Ill just buy the fusion rifle kit in "Dark Earth" color and get the bolt on retainer from Dinzag like you suggested. Will I need anything else special to make the pistol grip or the T6 stock fit correctly?

The price you'll pay is much less than what you'll pay for having your barrel stripped, an AKM retainer installed and the barrelled rebuilt. I like the way the DARK EARTH color goes with the blued steel. Anyway I see that TAPCO makes a Galil style hand guard specifically for the Saiga. I am assuming that this system will work with my Saiga, but am unsure about the hand guard. Why would TAPCO have a specific Galil guard for the Saiga if the other one didn't fit? Is there any way to "make" it fit correctly without ordering the Saiga specific hand guard. I would have no problem order
