    5.56 AK Magazine "need help"

Since Bulgaria is stopped imports of their Circle 10 AK mags to the U.S. for at least 2 years. I've been trying to get some manufacturers to make some 5.56x45 AK mags, but they’re still don’t seem to be for the idea, “Until” enough people ask for them to be made. I still think that if someone made some steel 5.56x45 AK mags or maybe even a polymer mag with a steel top/feed lip area, that would be mated to the polymer mag body, like the Lancer 5.56 AR mags, or the CZ Scorpion Hybrid mags by Manticore Arms and Prepper Gun Shop, they would sell like crazy. The making of a 5.56x45 AK magazine would fit the majority of the World’s 5.56x45 based AK’s: like the Bulgarian 106, Polish Archer, Polish Beryl, and Vepr AK's, and with a slight fitting, would also fit the Siaga .223/5.56 AK's. Promag is the only current maker of new 5.56x45 AK mags, in the U.S. Any current surplus mags are hard to find and are priced higher than they should be. I heard that there was a custom $5 magazine follower that was made by Robinson Arms that would convert 5.45x39 AK mags to work with .223/5.56 ammo. I would love to acquire one of the Robin magazine followers, to see what the dimensional differences were. Also if anyone knows if those converted mags functioned great or had any issues. I believe that the best bet for a new manufactured steel 5.56x45 AK mag is from Csspecs. I also believe that the best bet for a new polymer 5.56x45 AK mag is from Magpul. If enough of us emailed Csspecs, we could have a full steel (Around $40) U.S. made 5.56 AK mag very soon. If enough of us emailed Magpul, we could have an ($13 to $20) polymer U.S. made 5.56 AK mag soon. It will just take enough of our voices to make it happen. Please help bring a newly manufactured 5.45 AK mag to the U.S. market and beyond. Copy and paste the paragraph below, if needed: “I would like for you to please bring a 5.56x45 AK magazine to the U.S. market. One of these mags would fit most of the World’s 5.56x45 based AK’s: like the Bulgarian 106, Polish Archer, Polish Beryl, and Vepr AK's, and with a slight fitting, would also fit the Siaga .223/5.56 AK's. Thank you.” Csspecs: http://stores.csspecs.com/customer-service/ Magpul: https://www.magpul.com/about-magpul/contact-us

  3. I recently upgraded, or at least I consider it an upgrade, from a heavy quick detach side rail mount on my converted saiga 7.62 to the Ultimak gas tube mount for my red dot. This also forced me to get rid of my old super chunky UTG quad rail which I installed years ago because it was cheaper and simple. My rifle has now taken on a sleeker, lighter look and feel, and I can cowitness my irons; but I'm left with a new question (purpose of this post)..... Is there anymore use for the rail on the side of the reciever where the side mount used to ride? I looked around online, and I havn't found anything. Either no one has thought of this because everyone has accepted the fact that side mounts are the only thing meant to slip on there, or someone did try it and realized it was a bad idea. My thinking is that it might still be useful if someone designed a low-profile, super lightweight mount that would slide on just like a scope mount, but insted it would just hold a small flashlight or laser (or maybe some other accessory)....who knows?....maybe flashlight or laser wouldn't be practical because it would be shining down the length of the firearm's left side, but either way I just wanted to post my thought and see what anyone thinks??? Thanks

  7. Recently purchased a 7.62x39 Saiga, reconfigured it to it's original configuration. Put on a hogue pistol grip and a Tapco G2 trigger. Buddy of mine gave me a wood stock and a handguard but he did not have the gas tube cover. I recently got some nice wood for my Norinco SKS but it's got the cheese grater gas tube cover so therefore cannot put the wood cover on it (I personally like the cheese grater anyway. Tried installing the feed ramp but accidentally broke the tap inside the hole, so I'll be welding it in place insteading of bolting it. So I was hoping someone might be willing to sell/trade me a wood gas tube cover for an AK.
  8. I did a quick search... didn't see this posted previously... from January 2012. I couldn't say I necessarily would have declared them. I like to think I am an honest guy though. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/13/us-russia-kalashnikov-idUSTRE80C1ON20120113
  9. Hello everybody new guy to the forum here. I usually build AR-15s' so I'm still fairly new to the "AK" platform. I bought a Saiga sporter in 5.45x39 and want to convert it to the standard AK style. I recently saw a Saiga variant by Krebbs Customs that caught my eye, so my new project is to modify my rifle around the Krebbs Custom UFM Keymod Rail. Everything seems pretty staight forward, except I want to move the Front Sight Base closer to the shooter and thread the muzzle.I know with dimples holding the front sight base secure the holes could be a problem filing in. My main question is: Is it practical to move the front sight base closer to the shooter? How difficult would it be do it? How do I fill the dimple holes? If I did all that I would have it cerakoted. I havn't seen anything on ANY forum that talks about it. My goal is for the front sight base and the rail to meet like in the second picture attached (yes I know that's a shorter barrel in the picture). Realistic or not??

  16. Underwater 'Kalashnikov': Russia showcases first ever amphibious assault rifle http://rt.com/news/underwater-gun-russia-debut-627/ Russian arms manufacturers have unveiled a new technological marvel – the world’s first ever machine gun capable of shooting both underwater and on land. The Russian Special Forces units will soon be armed with the new assault rifle. Designed by Russia's Tula Instrument Design Bureau the ‘ADS’ gun can shoot underwater using a special cartridge, which in size is suitable for the standard magazine case Kalashnikov assault rifle. To fire under water or on land, one only needs to replace the magazine of the 5.45 millimeter automatic rifle. "Until now underwater fighters were compelled to use two types of weapon – for use under water and the Kalashnikov for overland firing. Now it is only necessary to replace the ammunition magazine," Nikolay Komarov, head of department of foreign economic relations of the manufacturer in Tula told rostec.ru The ‘ADS’ is also equipped with a 40 mm grenade launcher. Developers believe that its effectiveness and accuracy are comparable if not greater than the legendary AK-47m. The first ever machine gun of its kind was presented by the Russian developers at the XVII international arms exhibition in Moscow called " Interpolitex 2013” and in the near future will be deployed in the service by the Russian Defense Ministry. "The main feature of it is that the fire can be carried out both under water and on land. Currently, no country in the world has been developing such machine guns, they are developing only underwater guns,” a representative of the developer told Ria. The weight of the machine gun with the grenade launcher is approximately 4.6 kg. The ‘ADS’ uses bullets of 5.45х39 mm at a firing rate of 800 shots/min with the aim range on a land of 500 m. The rifle’s effective firing range underwater when using a specially designed cartridge is about 25 meters at a depth of 30 meters and 18 m at a depth of 20 m. The new underwater cartridge is externally very similar to standard 5.45x39 ammunition except for a different specially calculated bullet shape. The bullet length is 53.5 mm compared to an overall cartridge length of 57mm. Completed in Tula in 2007, the ADS machine gun has undergone successful tests in naval special units in the Russian Defense Ministry in the North, Far East and the Black Sea. Rosoboronexport is promoting the new weapon for export. This year the 17th “Interpolitex” is taking place in Moscow. Visitors can witness the latest defense technology for the police and military as well as medical equipment for emergency situations. The showroom has four major exhibitions: police equipment, military- technical, protection and border security and Unmanned Multipurpose Vehicle Systems. According to the organizers, 430 organizations are taken part at the convention, including more than 60 companies from 23 countries, such as Belgium , Britain, Denmark, Germany, India, Israel, Spain , Italy , France , USA , Czech Republic, Kazakhstan , Belarus and Ukraine.
