  1. I don't have to worry about the AK conversion because a peek at a SVD show a nice gap between the trigger and the magazine. Going to use a 20 inch version of the 7.62x39 Got a bolt on 14xs1 LH thread adapter Getting a TABUK style flash hider from NODAKSUP (ordered today) Go SCOUT wood stock and hand guard in Mahogany from RHINELAND (Nice craftsmanship) Got a 6x42 PSOP from Kalinka Optics Once assembled it should have a more SVD look than a PSL Picking up Saiga tonight from my local FFL (ordered from Centerfire System) under $400 total Counting buying Linseed oil for doing the wood, should be just under $900 total, all new, nothing old or used! Pictures to follow
  2. Hello everyone! Just got my first Saiga about a week ago and this is my first post here and it's going to be a long one I'm afraid. A couple of things to note that may be relevant later, the rifle is in 7.62x39 and I have the misfortune of living in central New York. I'm a big fan of wood furniture and a big fan of the svds, psls and all. What I'm aiming to do is build a shorty saiganov of sorts. Now, that may be an overstatement. What I really want to do is get some wood psl handguards fitted and figure something else out for the buttock. As I mentioned I live in N.Y. and kommander kuomo says I'm not allowed to have things he finds scary on my firearm. So a conversion isn't exactly on the table right now. I don't want to have to hide this thing in the closet until we get our rights back. I'm looking at a psl handguard set from Ironwood Designs and I feel like I can make that work. The question is what combination of retainers gas tubes and handguard mods is going to fit together and get me lookin spiffy? After I sort that out, I'll go on to figure out what to do about the butt. Thoughts? Thanks for hanging in there if you got through all this!

  4. anybody have any idea where i can get one of these? also will it work on an uncoverted s12? i've been a little confused on what stocks will work on converted/unconverted s12's. just bought my first one a few weeks ago so i still have tons of learning. I checked out ironwooddesigns and combloccustoms with no luck. the only one i found was at legionusainc.com but it was extremely pricey. just wondering if anyone had any experience or has done this before. thanks in advance

    saiganov (cqb)

my Saiga-308-01 i made the handguard from a lucky combo of machinery parts and stainless & aluminum tubing. the railed gas tube mounts at the lever-lock on the RSB, and to the set collar on the barrel. the forend also bolts to the receiver at the normal saiga spot. nothing touches the barrel forward of the set collar, just ahead of the RSB. that plus choate stock - the whole rifle feels very solid. LOP cut down to 12-1/2" - i am SHORT + jacket, backpack etc. Front sight is made from the original sight base, TIG'd to a fitting & set-screwed to the gas block -I measured like 200 times. i'm sure ACE would be much better - will see how it all maintains zero with use. needs better photos, scope and mount, muzzle treatment and a bunch of expensive mags....
  6. From the album: Saiga .308, 21"

Closeup of bipod, magazines rock in and out without catching on the hardware.
  7. From the album: Saiga .308, 21"

Recently added Versa-Pod bipod with mini-14 adapter. Still a work in progress, but so far I'm in love.
