cscharlie 107
Atlantic Arms is asking for input on producing mags for the S-12, and the S-.308 on another forum. http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=80&t=86037
Integratedj 1
Hopefully whoever makes them realizes they can't be all plastic and ahve to have metal catches on them. IJ
PvtPyle 0
Why? The factory mags do not have metal catches and we have not had any come back broken. Adding metal catches significantly increases the cost of your mold and the mag.
jonathon 0
I posted.. Not interested if they are 100% plastic without any metal lining to make them stronger. All my Polish Synthetic Ak mags and Glock mags work great, but they are metal lined.
PvtPyle 0
Metal lined makes the mag twice as much. You now have two molds, and then the construction of the mag. If they were to do 10-20 thousand mags, it would be worth it. But the 308 Saiga and Vepr market is less than half the size of the FAL market. It is just echonomics. Saiga mags obviously(?) have metal reinforcement in the top of the mag, to reinforce where it engages the shotgun. I'm agreeing with IJ here. IIRC, this is one matter (the details of how to do the metal reinforcement) that slowed (halted?) Z1500's attempts, and he was still looking at same ball park price ... PvtPyle 0
There is no metal in the 308 mag. When we bisected one for the internal measurements, it is plastic thru and thru. Why there is metal in the shotgun mag is a matter of some debate. In speaking with the Russian factory rep, they do it because it has always been done that way. But when they tooled up to do the mags for export to the US, they did not include it in the US export mags. And yet we have had no problems.. Metal is good for strength, but it is lots of money. If these were going to be used in real combat I would worry about it. But being the weekend warrior or even in competition, they will hold up fine. Just like the 8rd mags do. I spoke to someone in the industry today that said that kevin (Z1500) was going to have his 10 round mags ready to sell in one month. I'm hoping that its true for him and the rest of us. Bayoupiper 738
All I know is that I need some hi cap mags at a decent price! I haven't sent mine to Tony yet for conversion because I can't carry it on duty without mags, so what's the point.
