Is this a problem?

Recommended Posts

Got a US tapco gas piston for my .308 and noticed that it's almost a 1/4" longer than the stock piston. Is that going to be a problem, do I need to shorten the tapco, or can I leave it the way it is? Thanks,

If you screw this on and place the bolt carrier fully forward and there is no binding or the end of the piston doesn't come in contact with the gas block, you will be fine. The nature of the design allows for a lot of tolerance.

I'm betting that you will be OK.

Otherwise, mill 1/4" off of the shoulder of the screw-end of the piston and screw it down into the carrier a bit further. You may have to take a bit off of the end to shorten the threaded portion too.
