My shotgun has a regular plastic AK pistol grip. I have seen pics of AK rifles and Saiga 12C shotguns with larger Valmet-type pistol grips on them but I haven't seen any for sale. All my local gun shops just carry the same old plastic AK grips. I don't like those grips. I have a big hand and they seem too small. Give me some suggestions, please. I saw an aftermarket plastic pistol grip for a Rem 870 that I thought about buying and modifying but I wasn't sure if I could pull off the conversion without f-ing it up.

My friends from US was able to bring to Russia couple examples of american-made grips for me. Sources of this grips are:

http://www.ultimak.com/ARGB.htm AR-15 grip. Fits nice but you need to turn the screw very tight to avoid the gap. This grip has no slide rails for screwnut.

http://www.gunguide.com/~shines/ak.html Falcon Inductries Inc. Seems to be designed for MAK-90 so I was forced to made a new screw and special form screwnut for this grip because if mounted with standard parts it's about 5mm further from trigger gard than needed

Also there are some grips on http://www.riflestocks.com/html/ace_ltd__p...products_4.html but I still have no luck to try them

I wrote a small article about grips I tried on russian so it's no use for you I suppose but there is some photoes (bad quality though) that may be useful.

Nevermind about "Done but with errors on page" - this page posted on public site and guys supporting it are not very bright in their attempts to add JScript ads

There is some another (new "tactical") IZHMASH grip costs here about $5 and fits most palm sizes perfectly. But anyway Falcon's SureGrip AK fits most perfectly for me, then AR15, then IZHMASH, then original grip (worse fit).

Sorry for bad english

hope it helps somehow

I ordered a Falcon Industries AK Ergo-Grip Suregrip for my Saiga and it finally came. It is a vast improvement over the skinny standard AK grip. It looks and feels kinda like an MP-5 grip but it has a soft rubber coating with little bumps-- like Hogue Grips. I like it a lot. That's one problems solved. ZakherBakher, thanks man!

You're welcome, SaltPeter.

Could you please tell me if you have any troubles to inistall Falcon Industries AK Ergo-Grip Suregrip? I just want to know - was my own grip a bit defective or not (as I said I slightly modified screw and nut to fit it properly) because I'm thinking about a reason of ordering another such grip for my 7.62x39 Saiga MK-03 when it comes to be allowed to me.

In any case as you see I have spare AR15 AK Grip from Ultimak that fits nicely without screw modification.

ZakherBakher

My grip installed in seconds without modification at all. I did add a washer at the bottom because it appeared to me that the screw might dig into the rubber coating but that's just me. I'm sure it wasn't necessary; I just like to keep things looking new. Now I have a grip like a baby on a tit!

Great info about the grips. Thanks.

But what about the buttstock... The original - I'm not living in the US so I have the normal stock http://www.sksman.com/images/russianAKbuttmed.jpg - is too short and it's hard to attach buttplates (for less recoil).

So has anyone tried any of those AK-stocks (K-var, sksman.com, ...etc..)?

The skeleton version from ACE ( http://www.riflestocks.com/html/ace_ltd__p...products_1.html ) looks nice... does anyone know if they have right blocks to fit it to the Saiga?

And if somebody knows a onlineshop in Europe for this Saiga/AK stuff - I'll be glad to know!

I like the Ace Galil style grip for all of my AK variants.I also like the Galil selector and I am in the process of modifying all of my AK's to use the Galil selector switch so the cutout on the left side is useful.

Hey SOP, I'd appriciate data on that operation. I've been thinking about doing that to an AK for a long time, but I just never got around to it. Also wanted to do an H&K style cocking handle on the gas tube. Should be realy easy to do.Maybe when I get the time and money this weekend I'll start cutting on my '74 :)
