AMT Automag V, need HELP!

Recommended Posts

I bought one of these a while back. I only put a few rounds through it and really enjoyed the gun. Until...

I had a failure to eject, so I pulled back the slide and when I released it, BOOOM!! The hammer dropped and the thing went off. Fortunately I had it pointed safely at the ground, and the recoil made me drop it. I emptied the weapon and tried the slide a few more times, and each time the hammer would follow the slide home. A few times, if I tilted the pistol to the left, the hammer would stay cocked. I broke it down and saw that the pin that holds the sear would "walk" just a tiny bit to the right, enough to keep it from engaging the sear. Then while I was fooling around with it, the pin came out and so did the spring. I was unable to get the spring, pin, and sear back in, so I packed up the whole kaboodle and headed to my local smith. He said it sounded like the sear pin was worn, just a simple replacement, no problem.

I had checked with Numrich myself, but didn't see a sear pin listed, but I ordered a few other replacement parts since the gun was already disassembled.

Three months later, I called to check on it. The smith told me that he can't find a pin. He also said that they had put the gun back together and some of the parts I had ordered were for an Automag2 and wouldn't fit. I checked out what had been done and here's what I found:

The ejector wasn't installed (it HAS to be installed with the hammer)

The guide rod cannot be pushed in.

The hammer is way too weak. It wasn't like that before, and the mainspring is the original one.

So, basically, I've got a $600.00+ box of gun parts that I need to be reassembled into a working piece again. I'd even be happy if it was returned to its original problematic condition. Hell, I could've WECSOG'ed something myself for it by now.

So, can anybody help me out, or direct me to someone who can?

I've just about reached the point where I'm ready to buy another Automag and use this one for parts!!!

Well, looks like this one's beyond help unless I can find someone with the parts and ability to do a ground-up rebuild. Now I guess I have to find another one. :(

Did you ever fix or rebuild your Automag V? What about AMT? Any parts from them? If not, want to sell it?

I had an Automag .22 and ended up selling it off after failure to dent the primer hard enough to go off.My gunsmith was pulling his hair out on that one because it would fire fine pointing down into his test fire hole.Gravity gave it enough oomph then, not horizontal firing though.Neat concept, bad results in my case.Same as the AR7 .22 rifle.Sounds good in theory, and then they build many.......poo...... :ded:
