Bizzarolibe 5
Ok, so here's my Saiga. I just finished putting on the last of the upgrades. Yeah, I know, it's unconverted. Cry me a river. "Oh all you need to do is drill some crap and then cut some crap and then add some crap, it's sooooo easy!". Huh. Ok, if you want to do it for me, great (for free of course). Otherwise, I don't really care to F up my gun, cause knowing my skill with tools...yeah, I'd F it up. Wait, I don't have any tools either. Bummer. Anyway, to all of those who don't want to convert, you can still make a well-functioning, great shooting rifle...even if it doesn't look quite as cool as one that's been converted ;-) Tapco T6 Intrafuse stock with SAW pistol grip Tapco Galil style handguard with Tapco rail kit Tapco front vertical grip Surefire 30rd polymer magazine UTG dual weaver rail scop mount NCStar 1x42 red dot scope Now were all these parts cheap? Absolutely. But, I can hit whatever I'm aiming at at 100 yards. And I still spent more in upgrades than what I paid for the gun :-) Edited April 21, 2009 by Bizzarolibe
imarangemaster 315
Nice weapon! Also, well put. I converted mine, but don't feel it is LESS of a weapon if you don't! Good job!
bigsal 757
Nice weapon! Also, well put. I converted mine, but don't feel it is LESS of a weapon if you don't! Good job! Unless you mean LESS: 1: ergonomic 2: resale value 3: compatible with existing magazines Other than those three critical factors I'd say your right.....
imarangemaster 315
Bigsal, DO you ever tire of pissing in other peoples corn flakes? Here's mine, which has been converted. Saiga 7.62x39 16 inch with no dimples. The PG block hole was already cut. Conversion was a snap. K-VAR Warsaw Pac stocl and grip, Tapco G2 fire control group, Dinzag flat trunion bullet guide, Dinzag plugs for old FCG pin holes, magazine catch modified for mil-surp metal mags, factory hand guard ventilated with a symmetric series of seven 3/8" holes on each side, muzzle shroud cut of 5/8"+ inch, then threaded 14mm x 1.5 Left with the die kit from Dinzag, "US" stamped AMD65 brake with Dinzag crush washer to index it. The sling is of my own design. It is set up long for over the left shoulder for m-60 gunner patrol sling type carry (at least that's how I did it way back then), but will still bring up to shoulder without interference. It can also be set oup as a single point, or a two/three point sling. Just a quick photo to show its done. I'll try to do some better shots.
Bizzarolibe 5
Nice weapon! Also, well put. I converted mine, but don't feel it is LESS of a weapon if you don't! Good job! Unless you mean LESS: 1: ergonomic 2: resale value 3: compatible with existing magazines Other than those three critical factors I'd say your right..... 1. Er, that's called an "opinion". I've shot plenty of AR's and AK's, and my Saiga doesn't feel different enough for me to risk screwing up my gun to move the trigger assembly <1 inch. 2. Um, why would I ever want to sell my Saiga, especially with Mobama on the throne? Duh. 3. So you're too lazy to take 5 minutes out of your day to shave down a mag catch? I had 2 AK mags that took me all of 10 minutes to make compatible with my Saiga. It doesn't take a genius... Yeah, real critical factors. Wait...oh no, they're actually not :-/ Of course, the real problem here is that you have a small, er...foot...so you go around trashing other people's stuff to compensate for your...foot...size. And you know what they say about small feet right? Small shoe size ;-) That's ok, I don't really feel threatened. I'm confident enough in my...foot...size to know that having a Saiga with <1" worth of metal between the trigger and magazine catch doesn't make me any more or less of a person. But hey, I wouldn't want to deprive someone of their source for self-confidence, so trash my stuff all you want. While you're at it, want to convert my rifle for me? Very clean and simple, representative of the design. Different, but still in AK cloths. Thanks for the gun porn.

edraven 0
What's the top rail on this? I'm a fan of the (hopefully) symmetry. Nice AR-AK-Saiga-something Best of all worlds i guess Those are some nice looking handguards DesertDog. Agias, this one might qualify as the best in both worlds also. lloydkristmas 0
Damn man, whoever pissed in your cornflakes swiped your manners while you were savoring the taste. I personally think the half conversions dont look as good, but if thats what someone wants to do, more power to 'em! Not everyone is soooo concerned with the crisp trigger, grip angles, blah blah blah I know several guys who have unconverted or half-converted Saigas and love them to death, and dont care enough to change them up to gain what they see as a miniscule advantage. I personally converted my rifle, I like the look and the improved functionality. But I certainly wont be bashing anybody who chooses to take a different route. Im waiting on some final parts to come in, and then I will add pics. GT

sh00ter 4
Why are you refinishing it? It looks fine in the pics. it is fine - a couple of months of fairly heavy use and showing zero signs of wear in all honesty. i have always strived to "personalise" all of my guns - whether that is just internal work to make smoother or just making them look the way i want. the saiga is a tool but it is also not the best finished tool, loads of machine marks visible etc. I've also never refinished a complete rifle, so this seemed a nice project to do. i guess i just like to tinker around! shades_of_grey 1,092
^ Not a bad setup. A helluva lot more scope than I'd personally put on it, but that's your choice. Just remember that you're never gonna "snipe" anyone with an AK. They're not built for it. I'd have spent some of that scope money on a micro red dot and the rest on ammo. /shrug Of course for not properly converting a 7.62 Saiga with a rare dimpled receiver, you really should be tarred and feathered!!
Noc 0
Personally, I wouldn't consider my setup being a sniper utility weapon. A 3x zoom as a flip up addon just aids in seeing your bullet marks on 50 yard targets. a 1x is almost impossible to see where you are hitting unless you are using neon targets that glow profusely after struck. Even then at 50 yards it's still not quite visible. If I were going to use this for a sniper or long range hunting weapon, I would put a 6x24x60 mildot on it. As far as the conversion, this is my first Saiga and import. With all of the American parts I have on it now, you would think it's compliant as is. If there is something I am missing, please fill me in. I have also gone through and subtracted from the parts list on the compliance form and it appears I am legal according to that. But again I might be missing something.
protected static 19
Heh. By 'proper,' he meant the full pistol-grip conversion and moving the fire control group forward... It's an aesthetic judgment, not a legal one.
