KC913 324
Check Carolina Shooters Supply they actually sell Saiga plugs they are just little plastic or rubber plugs that pop in and cover the holes in the receiver and I think they are just a few dollars for a handful or something like that. I picked up some of the Hillmans nylon hole plugs from Lowes back when I first converted my 7.62, I just never ended up using them. I'll have to drill some material from the receiver block to use the hole plugs anyway, so I'll probably just drill and tap it.
sjgusmc21 850
Not completely done, but damn close. It is amazing how my Saiga started and ended up. I really liked it with the Tactical furniture, but when I tried on the the shorter stock and smaller hand guard, what a huge difference! So much smaller/slimmer and easier to handle/carry. I mounted the FSB last night, and what bitch to do so, don't know if I will do it again. I still need to put the pins in, the plunger and spring (launched the spring into orbit...not a clue as to where it is), replace the gas piston (last piece of the 922r compliance checklist), and done. Can't find my cleaning rod either. But I am very happy at this point. Need to get her to the range and sight her in again. My next rifle will either be a Cetme, Saiga 308, Yugoslavian M70AB2 Underfolder or M72 RPK Sporter. So many choices! I have my one AR and that is enough. Happy Easter and Semper Fi! GregM1 241
Here is the current version of my Saiga w Russian Plum furniture. I will add a different FSB w attachment soon. It was a little dirty by the time some of these were taken. I carried with my while out doing photography since I never know what I will run across out there. bigsal 757
Good work Greg! Ever think about cutting the FSB down and moving it foward an inch or so for better placement with the slant brake? I think that would make your rifle complete.

I think that would make your rifle complete. Thanks sal, I agree, it is a little long on the fsb as is, but I am planning to use a bulgarian 24mm block so I can attach my izzy plum bayo. I just cut the shroud back to expose the factory threading for now. i am real happy with it for now though. it is a great shooter.
ae13291 3
what is the cleaning rod held by?
GregM1 241
what is the cleaning rod held by? currently just held in place by the retainer and handgaurd. another reason i wish to switch my FSB. it does hold well in its current state though and requires a little force to remove it. ae13291 3
wait so all you did was stick it in the hole and its held in there? i wanted to buy a cleaning rod, the stock saiga one is too long but when i put it in there it just slid in real easy and slid right back out. is the real AK rods a bit fatter?
GregM1 241
I currently am using a 16" Bulgarian rod. It seems the same diameter as the Saiga rod. However, that is Russian polymer with a Bulgarian retainer and not K-var furniture. Maybe the design is slightly between the specs of the gaurd and the heat shield. All I did was slide it in and it has held fine. I carried it around for two days hiking in the woods. It never came loose or budged at all. I will tell you that I am so hooked into these things. It has been a lot of fun, no doubt. I use Alumihyde II by Brownells (The Base Color is Coyote the rest is OD). Great stuff, IF, you follow the directions and IF you let it dry the way you should. I like tinkering, and believe it or not, I have a set of K-VAR OD 74 furniture on her now. As for parts, this is what it has at this moment in time.... Red Star Trigger Group Bulgarian Gas Tube KVAR bargain bin FSG DPH Compensator The wood on it in the pictures came from Centerfire's website, I think they were $20.00. A windage adjustable rear sight from AA-OK. Trigger Guard and Mag Release I obtained from CarolinaShootingSupply and/or Mississippi Arms. Can't remember which one. And I got some parts from DinZag, and I highly recommend him. It shoots great and is just freak'n fun as hell. Believe it or not, been thinking about reverting it to Black, but have decided against it. Will save that nice wood for a very near in the future 308 or another 7.62. The hardest 2 things so far have been the damn FSB, and removing/replacing the furniture from the Gas tube. What a PITA! Thanks again and Semper Fi!

Bitch getting older with the memory thing. The set was actually from Apex, $25.00, Bulgarian AK74 Wood Furniture Set. I don't believe I can post a link. Sorry for the confusion, I 'window' shop so much, I get them confused! I did refinish them with min-wax (3 coats), and 2 coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane (satin). h0pper 0
finally decided on the under folder Nice! Details? Did you replace the rear trunnion? yep, i just grabbed a cheap romy m65 parts kit from centerfire and did the swap. now ive got all the parts i need except a receiver flat to build a second fixed stock ak . it just seemed like a better deal than spending $80+ just for the stock and trunnion alone. after debating it for a bit i just decided to weld the trunnion in. i welded up the extra holes that bugged me, welded the trigger guard to the mag release (waaay more stable now). the hand guard was a drunken after thought as i had already modified the parts kits retainer to bolt in, and planned on carving some blond furniture (im thinking tiger maple), but when i got done with it i liked it and decided to leave it on for a while.
