Saiga Conversion Video (DVD Format)

Recommended Posts

Would anyone be interested in a Saiga conversion video in DVD format? It seems like nowadays the information is everywhere so maybe there's no need for something like this. It's just an idea that popped up.

I guess I should point out that I'm talking about a legal Saiga conversion... not a full-auto conversion!

Wuss!

Yeah, that would be cool. Most people pick up stuff by seeing, not reading. (at least I do.)

Now for it to be really successful, you got to hire some hot chicks (minimum 2) who dig each other. Porn chicks work for cheap and like to take their clothes off. Plus you can bang 'em on the side. :super:

Oh wait, you're hitched now...

Seriously it's a good idea. You'd sell some for sure.

I couldn't agree more...but then I might not pay enough attention to the actual conversion being done. Tough call.

I'd be interested in seeing how to do a full auto as well as a semi-auto. Needless to say, I wouldn't ever do the actual full-auto conversion, but mere information isn't illegal and is interesting. :smoke:

I heard that it is illegal to own both the information for FA and the rifle. Is that true? Maybe it was both the parts and the rifle?

Think if you possess an unregistered full auto sear you are as screwed as if you were caught with the entire full auto firearm.

I'm in the process of putting the video together and getting a website up. If you're interested please let me know.

Great! Thanks for letting us know that you're putting this together. My Saiga and conversion parts are on order, so the timing of you doing this video is perfect for me!

I have nothing against Tromix, and I'm sure he / they do good work although I've never dealt with them. That said, I'm positive you can do it yourself for a lot less than someone is going to charge. When you see the video you'll realize just how easy it really is and how short of a time it takes. That should give you a lot more confidence when you try it the first time. I just winged my first one, and that was WAY before the info was online. I think a video really would've helped me.

I have the camera, the tools, the compliance parts, and the editing software. I need to pick up a rifle for the video. I think I can make the video in about a week. The conversion can actually be done in about two hours but videotaping it will be more challenging. Then I'll have to edit it.

I figured on using a 7.62X39 because it's the most common, but the .223 and .308 have magazine issues that people might be interested in. I know you can buy the larger capacity mags for the .308 so I may not even get into that one. Why don't you guys tell me what would be the most helpful.

I plan on having it ready about mid-January so get you input in now and I'll try to taylor it to what everyone wants. ;)

Echo Four,

Seriously... I've asked other people on other boards to borrow their Saigas for the video. My wife won't let me buy another one until after Christmas. That said, I've already recorded the .223 specific part of the DVD as I had one that was already converted except for the magazine. Now I'm looking for ANY Saiga that I can convert on video. I have some of the parts but I'd really prefer a 7.62X39 for the vid as that's what I think most people will have. Needless to say, these are the boards where you find the most Saiga-interested people. The other boards aren't as excited about true Russian AK rifles built in the same factory as the original AKs as we are. Saigas are some of the finest factory Aks out there. I personally think that Hesse singlehandedly ruined their reputation for some folks.

I'll get this thing done in January no matter what. But it would be nice to do it sooner since I'm currently on leave from work and have the time to spare. I have most of the parts ready to go.

I don't know if there are review posts here, but I've helped with conversions for several of the members here who would surely vouch for me and my method.

A video of the Saiga conversion would ease the minds of so many people wanting to try this because you could watch it unfold and understand exactly what to do. That's the easiest way for me to learn anyway. I will have this thing available within the next three months no mater what. I'll sell it for $20.00 until it pays for the expense of the rifle and parts, then it will be reduced to whatever it costs to burn the disks and ship them out. Maybe someday soon, if I can learn more about the internet I can post the vid for free.

Messiah, I didn't figure you'd actually want to use my rifle for the video- but it couldn't hurt me to offer. (And of course, the offer stand should you change your mind.) I would love the DVD, especially since I can't seem to find your CD anywhere. Since I've never done any metal work, or worked on any rifle other than the AR system I'm a bit concerned. Add to that the issues a guy is having on warriortalk with his conversion, and I'm debating just taking it to Tromix (they're only 90 minutes or so down the road.) But, I'd rather do it myself or find some small business or private 'smith do the work. Better to pay an enthusiast (and get a better price0 than pay someone that is just running their business.

Well, I'm sure Tromix does good work, but it's so easy that it makes no sense to hire someone. You don't have to have metalworking experience and you don't have to weld etc. Really all you need is a drill, a dremel, and I also use a bench grinder sometimes for shaping the feed ramp. The Saiga is already set up, all you really have to do is remove the factory trigger assembly and maybe cut a hole for the pistol grip nut. Shaping the feed ramp is a little tougher to get right but by no means do you have to be an expert. I have it down to a science now.

And hey, if you wanted a CD all you had to do was ask. BTW, what problems was that guy having? I'll try to help if I can figure out how to contact him.

For some reason I never thought to just ask. I just tried doing an internet search for it. Let me know how to get the cd, and I will happily buy it.

Below is a link to the thread where he is detailing his misadventures in making the conversion. I believe he lurks here, but I don't know that for a fact.

I've been thinking of attempting a self conversion on my .308. Never done a conversion, and i'm iffy on the possibility of ruining a rifle. Seeing definitely helps me a lot more than reading. From what I've read, the .308's are extremely easy, though. I'd be interested in this dvd.
