A new 20 Rounder Thread. Got mine, here is what I think

Recommended Posts

Mine came in yesterday, just before work (2pm), so of course I haven't had a chance to go shooting yet. I am very, very pleased. It is an outstandingly attractive magazine. A while back I ordered some factory 8 rounders from elsewhere and those required a little "fitting" to get them to lock up. . .. NOT so with the FBMG 20's. The 20's slide into the hole with the expertice of a middle age porn star, I mean smooth. Once they are locked up, they feel solid, no wobble. These are some fine magazines. They look fabulous on the gun. I am pleased. If yours have not come yet, fear not, when they do, they are worth the wait.

I started this as a new thread with the expectation that others could add their oppinions once theirs came in. It could be that there will be some differing oppinions. And in all likelihood others will get to shoot with theirs before me, so I guess I am interested in those oppinions the most. What I'd really like to see is a thread that fills up with positive comments and happy reports, kind of as a means of thanking FBMG for sticking their necks out and getting this done & for putting up with all of our whinning when it took a while. Great job FBMG!

Got mine friday. The mag bodies and followers are perfection. The floorlate and retainer needed only to be de-burred and sanded lightly on the edges. A little silicone lube and loaded the mags. Now I need to go to the range.

Yes, we're jealous. I'm going to try the modded m14 mags first. I'm just curious how they work. I just like the look of the m14 20rders.

RANGE REPORT - RANGE REPORT - RANGE REPORT

Mags came friday. Saturday I dissasembled the mags, The bodies and the followers are works of art! I gave them a little dry silicone lube and otherwise left them alone. The floorplate and ritainer are metal and the edges needed filing and sanding to work and handle easily. The floorplate needs blackening but functions perfectly. The retainer lacks the fingers of the OEM ones, I will fabricate something later-they only make assembly easier. The spring is just a bit softer than the factory 8 rd.

Loading was fairly easy, somekind of loader would be handy, but not a priority. Using Austrailian Surp.

I have 100 rds left, that will have to do. 1-8rd. mag to sight in and the rest for the 20 rd. mags

Shooting. Every mag snapped easily and tightly into the reciever. Feed was flawless. No FTF, no FTE, No hiccup of any kind.

Using a pair of gloves on an ammo can for a rest, and shooting as fast as I could regain some kind of sight picture, the rythem goes -front sight, backsite, got it BOOM. Front sight, back sight, got it BOOM.for the entire mag. As the barrel heats, the group mooves up and right. Best 20rd group at 75yds. with iron sights about 6" wide by 10" high. ZOMBIES BEWARE-WE ARE READY FOR YOU!

Accuracy was not the concern with this test, beyond keeping the majority of rounds within a 6" circle at 75 yds. That is what I try for anyhow. The rifle is good for a lot better, but my old eyes aren't. The last group was right there, so I guess I need to get a boocoo of .308 or milsurp and practic, practice practis, pragtest untill it gets better.

Final impression- ALL HAIL THE BUNNY!

My order came in the us-mail today, clunking around...all three were in package loosely, sounded like an old john deere tractor.

invoice #104

Haven't fired the rifle with the new mags yet, front and back fit is perfect, some wobble side to side however. Much more than i wanted to see, but oh well. One thing to consider, the 20-rounders add some weight to your rifle, the 308 with full 20 round magazine is some what heavier than its 7.62x39 brethren.

Now I have 5/8 round factory mags and 3/20 round mags. Thanks to everyone that put the money up front so that company could produce the mags! And thanks FBMG.

Pictures of my saiga in the near future.

Best of luck !

I received mine in the mail today, a little dissapointed in the side to side wobble. Another strange thing, I own two .308's one shorty and one longer barrell version. In the shorty it has a lot of play, while the longer barrell seems to lock up a lot better, although wobble from side to side is about the same in both guns. Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Got mine today.. Looks great... Some wobble side to side... More than I would like.. Hoever I put in the factory mag and there was also a little wobble... But the factory works just fine w/ the wobble.. So I am hoping that won't matter.. Anyway I like the way it looks and seems to be made well...

We checked a bunch of different .308s before we designed these. There is some difference between them on the mag well dimensions, so we were conservative to make sure that they would fit easily into all of the guns out there. Some guns will have more wobble than others.

Mine showed up in the mail today. Invoice number 172. Now for range day on Saturday. I said before that if they come before Christmas, I'll be really happy and if they come after Christmas I'll still be happy and guess what.....I"M REALLY HAPPY!! Merry Christmas to me.

Thanks for the effort in making the mags.

I got my mags earlier this week, exactly 22 days after ordering them. So FBMG is definitely doing a good job now in processing and filling orders.

When they had promised me that I would get the mags before Christmas, I was sort of a disbeliever that they would do it. But, lo and behold, they sure came through on their word. I only actually used 4 of them at the range today, but they all functioned just fine.

I am certainly willing to do business with FBMG Inc again. They get an A for both their product and their service from me.

Got my 3 mags about the 19th. I have been pretty busy with work so I haven't had a chance to really check them out till now. The floor plate is pretty sharp. Thats minor. I can take the sharp edges off and gunkote them. The mag bodies I thought would be a little thicker so you can't press in with your fingers or maybe have the mag bulge out with rounds in them. There is a bit of side to side and a little front and back wobble. I wished that they were a little tighter fit in my rifle. Overall they look very nice. Now only if I had some time to go to the range! Maybe in a week or two.

I was charged $133.09 for the 3 mags plus shipping. Shipping turned out to be $6.55 so the cost per mag for me was $42.15 each. I have emailed FBMC with more details. Yes, I'll be ordering some more mags. Invoice 147

FWIW I got my second batch of three mags yesterday, as good as the first. Took a delay in getting them and a few emails, but they shipped priority mail in the 23rd and are here today. That's making it right in my estimation.

As far as fit finish and function go, the mags are a winner (though the second batch of 3 is yet untested). Also, they've held up in very cold weather to a small amount of abuse. I believe FBMG will be getting some more of my $ once my conversions are completed.

My biggest gripe with the magazines is that I don't see that the floorplates or the bodies have a US marking on them. I'm not big on the idea of carrying around receipts for years as a get out of prison card, since the goings on could easily become guilt until proven innocent. I could see where it might be a tough sell that these are compliance parts on my rifle when every other compliance part has a bold US marking on them. Perhaps it's not worth worrying about, but it would seem that future generations of these mags might be marked accordingly (a suggestion I suppose)

buckanda... don't worry about the receipt marking thing - uncle batfuck would have to prove that they aren't US made - the burden of proof is on them - not you. That part of the Bill of Rights hasn't been compromised... yet.

Just thought I'd suggest that some of you that have these mags now go to the FBMG site and post a review for them ;)

The mags aren't perfect - especially if you take into consideration everyone's version of "perfect". However, they are quite good and given that they are the only game in town, they are outstanding IMHO. The floorplate bothers me not at all. It works great and if I want to paint it, I can do that quite easily.

Well, I got my mags today and except for the floorplates that I will have to take the sharp edges off, the two 30 round mags appear to look OK. I will have to get out next week for an actual firing test and see if they work. They fit in the mag well with a whole bunch of wobble, the mag latch locking lug also appears to be much thinner than the original 8 round mag one.

I sure think that the extra .308 8 round mag I ordered is kind of odd looking though, I haven't taken it out of the packaging yet but I just don't think it is going to work in my rifle that well.

What do you guys think? I called FBMG but no one answered so I left a message. My invoice correctly lists the 3 mags I ordered all in .308.

I just got home from Oklahoma yesterday to find my mags waiting for me on my desk. I'm pleased. Hope to make a range trip soon.

Still waiting on mine, unfortunately.. Delivered to my old address, where the apartment managers are telling me they don't know if they were sent back, or what happened to them. FBMG is trying to track down who signed for it to talk to them and see what happened, I guess. Correia has aknowledged he had recieved my change of address, but the order must have been sent out to my old one. I have no doubts they're going to take care of me, but the wait and all this extra trouble are frustrating.
