Tromix Customer's

Recommended Posts

Most all Tromix customers are great guys, but once in awhile I just have to scratch my head in amazment.

I took an order for an S05 on 1/17/07 and quoted the buyer a lead time of 90-120 days. The guy called me today, five days later, to ask for an update on his delivery to see if I am still "on schedule", "behind schedule" or "ahead of schedule".

I won't comment any further.............................

My jaw dropped when I got an email from Tony saying he was 90-120 days out. But I thought that would be about right for good gunsmiths, actually even better than most. I hate waiting, but sometimes you have to to get the best.

And NO it was not me he is talking about....LOL.

yeah, 90-120 days, thats about right where i live. its clearly a vast right-wing conspiracy among the gunsmiths.

Tony: it could be worse. you could be doing exclusively brick and mortar all day. one afternoon, right before closing, i had two guys come come in wearing baggy pants, oversized jerseys, bandanas ... and carrying an AK and a Tec-9, both loaded w/ hi-cap mags. they came within about 0.2 sec of being filled with lead by all 5 of us working that day. turned out that they were both having feed problems and wanted to have our gunsmith take a look at the guns. after unloading their weapons and telling them that they almost died, we suggested that they go down the street to the hardware store, buy a file, and just keep grinding away on the mags, ramps, and bolts until they worked. they thanked us for the "money saving tip" and left.

Ha you should be in the bodyshop business. not only do the customers call 5 times a day , but the Insurance, rental car company, and the lawyers call all day. and those fuc#@^s you dont say nothing to! They will have you in court all day.

I ordered mine on the 19th. Wasn't me. (I pieced together my pic on what it's going to look like).

If I did call, it would probably be only to change the handguard to the one with the picatinny rail on the bottom (been debating that).

I'd rather wait and have it done right -by the right person to do the job, than rush or pester about things like time tables.

I'm a firm believer in specialists. There's gunsmiths, then there's Tromix. Which would you prefer when it really counts?

I researched a lot on these weapons. After firing a Tromix, like I said before -a done deal. He could say summer time and I would still wait.

But that's me.

Errr... ummmm.... at the risk of possibly being placed in the same category as the guy Tony mentioned above (and becoming fragged by some of you **gulp** although Tony would clearly have rights to the first grenade lob), I must confess to having contacted Tony half a dozen times by email (and hell, I just sent him another one a half hour ago) and twice by telephone regarding making further changes/alterations to my TROMIX order. I placed the order with Tony at the beginning of this month (January). Mind you, I fully acknowledge that Tony made it clear to me my TROMIX Saiga-20 would take approximately 90 to 120 days, and I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with that.

Nonetheless, although likely not falling immediately into the same category as the guy above, I fear I may have become a pain-in-the-ass to Tony for making several requests for changes to my order, on different dates, AFTER the date of placing my original order. Currently, my hope is that since a month has not yet gone by, my order change requests have not directly impacted Tony's work (nor his good humor toward me)... but of course I can't help but to wonder.

Of course, if "truth be told" (as far as I'm concerned **somber chuckle**), several of you here within the forum could be construed as be culpable in this for me. After all... my knowledge about the Saiga shotgun continually grows each and every time I visit this forum! Ummm.... "I plead iinnocence!"

Well, you have to remember that Tony is a one-man shop. It's frustrating to have to stop and answer the phone every few minutes.

I can assure you all that Tony works his ass off to get the guns done, and every gun gets his full attention.

Haha, I was actually surprised when Tony called me to tell me mine was done, with all the Christmas stuff going on I'd almost forgotten I sent it off. He told me it would be about 60-90 days so I wasn't expecting it until mid January but I got a call from him in December telling me it was done and was ready to be shipped. It doesn't help anything to stress over it and get impatient, just leave the man alone to do his work and you will be pleasantly surprised as I was.

........a BIG-ASS +1 on that one, Bob !!!!

TROMIX is not McDonald's or WalMart.......... Tony is a master gunsmith, working alone, producing a weapon of unparalleled quality, one at a time..... and truly does work his ass off to do it (virtually every day of the week, unbelievable hours.........................) Have a little patience............ sing the "catsup song" if you have to...........("aaaaanticipaaaaaation".............)

I love customers that call all the time, I just charge them $70 per hour and a min of $35 for their call time... oh and put the invoice the bottom of the stack. Please remember that gunsmiths work on gunsmiths years not dog years, 1 week gunsmith time is 1 month human time(that is if you piss us off, if not we sometimes work at human time)... LOL just having some fun.

Thanks Tony for all your cool parts and help.

Hello

Well, just to assume the "devils advocate" role for a moment....

The recent Nancy Pelosi/Hillary Clinton issue likely has everyone a bit paranoid 'bout their weapons. Pretty unjustifiably, at least at this moment, but although it wouldn't justify the behavior demonstrated by this particular Mongoloid, I think the panic mode is not too far off for many of us.

Respectfully posted,

I don't share my phone except in rare circumstances because there have been cases of harrassment by anti-gunners who get the numbers of serious gun guys on the internet. This has even goen to the point of threats (ironic, isn't it? Ant-gunners threatening gun owners?)

I just take a chunk of time for work and a chunk of time for communications. I do return them with rare exceptions. That way things get done faster and time spent is controlled, which improves pricing, quality, and timeliness of work, all of which are in a customer's favor.

Something folks need to realize when they want to change details of their order - if they do it when the work has already begun, they're doubling parts of the work, and should expect to pay a little more. Otherwise they're asking for a person to work twice for the same money. I quote revisions fairly but have to charge at times becaue if I didn't it would raise the prices for everyone, including the folks who do everything right.

I do have one customer who keeps sending things back for revision and getting new and updated items, but he's 100% understanding of the costs involved and I do appreciate his business.

I remember when I dropped my 1911 to Ted Yost it took over 6 months before the thing was done. People don't realize that if you put the words "custom" and "gun" together and you aren't doing it yourself then it's going to take a long time. If you take your gun to the most bitchin' smith in all the land expect to take a number. Your gun may only take like 3 days to complete but when you are like #20 in line to be served then you have to wait your turn. If you want it done faster DIY WECSOG style even.

Tony, Haven't checked in since my last phone call (remember me, wanted to know if my build was ahead, on or behind schedule?).

Well, good news. After following your advice, I limped down to the proctologist shop and he was able to remove the phone from up my @zz. Said in a couple of days the swelling and bleeding would stop but the roids are here to stay .... LOL.

J/K wasn't me.

Hah, 120 days? What a bunch of whiny babies. I laugh at your pitiful 120 days, and raise with the Randall I ordered last month for delivery in April.

April 2011.

Oh, it could always be worse (LOL)

My best turnaround was an order I took at a match on Sunday, and had the rifle complete, test fired, and in the customer's hands the following Friday afternoon. My worst is the guy who dropped off a cracked 1911 frame five years ago (to have me build a full up Limited 10 gun with) and then "forgot" to drop off the down payment, then calls now and then with "oh, I'll be right over"...for five years. Of course, I've been waiting for the guy with the (now) trick 700 to show up to get his (completed) rifle since sometime in the early 90's. It does look nice on the rack, though, and he is always friendly on the phone when I remember to call him to remind him that his toy is STILL ready for pickup. Ah, well.

I ordered mine this past friday the 19th and was quoted 90-120 days.As excited as I am about getting my S17 waiting doesn't bother me.Like everyone else here has said, being a one man shop means it is going to take a while and I am fine with that.I'll wait for something that works and is quality over something I can have quick and easy that is substandard anyday.

If tromix estimates 90-120 days and holds to it, that's pretty dang good in my opinion. Even the best of us often have to offer apologies and revised estimates just because things take more time than we'd expect.

90-120 days really isn't all that long, and if that's on the side of caution then I'd say kudos to Tromix!

Been waiting 8 months on a SSG97 from IO (patiently drumming fingers on table).

Hmmm...glad to see I'm not alone, I thought they were just ignoring me. "Back in stock in October, uh..November. well...beginning of December, erm....January, yeah,, January, that's it, call us then." HA!

Last word a few weeks ago--"Waiting to clear customs." At least the gal there was nice about it.

I usually call back around the time I am promised something to check on status. Tony always surprised me by calling me first to let me know it was done ahead of time.

As a former programmer I can appreciate that things sometimes get behind schedule. I had to be extra patient with the guy who welded all my intercooler and exhaust tubing and extra patient with olympic arms when they held my upper for ages because they didnt have uzi mags (which I didnt want anyway). As long as people just tell me honestly what the problem is, I have absolutely no grief over waiting or going without. I've been waiting something like 7 months to finish this suppressed AR15.

I only ever get ticked off when people start making up stories. In the gun world, so far I have only had a bad experience with Mark at SoundTech, who is a nice enough guy until he realizes that he has bad news for the customer, at which point he starts playing the blame game. Tedious bullshit. To his credit, he was honest and returned my check with no hassles. I have heard horror stories about people getting paid for title 2 stuff all the time and running off without sending the guns.
