marvin42 2
Hi, does anyone know of a good way to keep the OE safety from scratching the hell out of the receiver? Any good way to re-cover/ re-apply the original finish? (Mine had quite a scratch on it when I bought it as it was the one and only display model. I currently have a couple layers of electrical tape around it, but that looks like shit!

Juggernaut 11,054
Nothing worse than having a nice dura coat finish with an ugly silver semi circle on the side.
Forster 0
Sorry, but it's a tool not a work of art.

Juggernaut 11,054
any shiny tool is not tactical. Gladly, as a Civilian now, that is no longer a concern. still pops in to the brain every time I look at it.
Bayoupiper 738
It's a Kalashnikov. It's supposed to have that arc on it!

Forster 0
At the distance you will be using a shotgun i don't think that narrow scratch will "Tactically" matter.
Juggernaut 11,054
Like I said, OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) ~Edit, Never said it wasn't pointless or crazy.
Karma 0
It's a Kalashnikov. It's supposed to have that arc on it! amen Its meant to be there. Its like a right of passage for a kalishnakov to gain the mark. I equate it to getting hair on your balls. It doesn't improve function or looks and seems silly at first but after a while you realize its supposed to be there and that its pretty manly.

MrTuffPaws 2
If your Saiga did not have that arc, people would look funny at you. It should be a mark of pride.
Juggernaut 11,054
Gee when will that happen? Do you really feel the need to question my manhood because I cover up a silly scratch on my shotty? I was the first to say it was silly, but come on man! You want to compare manliness and hair on balls - go to the YMCA. Either way, I'm keepin' mine covered up.

It was not a personal attack, I was making an analogy and a joke. Trust me, if I'm going to verbally attack someone you will know it and it won't be in the form of a joke. Juggernaut 11,054
Sorry man, I should have added a smiley face. Trying to be funny myself, keeping covered up and all....... No harm either way on my end, Cool?
SuAside 2
as someone mentioned before: making that scratch on your gun is like popping a cherry.

Karma 0
Why not have a virgin EVERY time vs. a well worn ho? Because virgins aren't any good to anyone until they get broken in and shown what they are doing. They key is to get them after they are broken in and before they get to loose. Are we still talking about guns? lol
KyleWeiss 0
I took a cotton swab and some Super Blue and treated the scratch just to protect it a bit... Same as with other AK's, blackens it half-way decently, lessens chance of rusting, I figured. *shrugs* KW

G O B 3,516
I don't give a rats ass about the lscratch, but I use Birchwood Casey cold blue, and ultra black touch-up pen every now and again when cleaning my guns. Not for the "pretty" but to help keep the protective coating intact.

KySoldier 2
just remove the safety lever Or just don't use it....mine don't have scratches. I don't walking around with any gun with a round in the chamber, unless its a handgun that I'm carrying. At the range I chamber a gun when I'm on the line and ready to fire. If I need to stop mid-mag I unload it and set it down...safeties are over rated, you're Saiga could be on safe but still cook off a round on a hot day.
Steph 5
Like I said, OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) Make that "Compulsive-Disorder-Obsession" that way the LETTERS CDO ARE IN ALPHBETICAL ORDER THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE!!
Cobra 76 two 2,677
+1 right of passage...busted cherry...etc AK's are sposed to look that way. If ya want her to look more like a virgin, paint her white and polish her nub! (on the back of the selector) Then put some clear fingernail polish on there to make it extra shiny and pretty
kmoore 3
Arc shaped scratch on a Saiga = Original intent of design (where are those Russian quotes regarding simplicity) Arc shaped scratch on a 1911 = Noob alert

I'll keep it there for now... Plus it's a distinguishing AK feature I like. It's mostly useless, all in all. KW
